Lovely stay in this beautiful country house hotel. Even though there is currently some refurbishment work taking place, we had a great time. Friendly staff and a comfortable, clean and spacious room.
Great character left in the buildings , wonderful to see original features, need a bit of fresh paint here and there, staff very commendable, very peaceful. 2nd time we have stayed and did not disappoint, will stay again
Refused to stay here as it was not as advertised, it was probably very nice when it was once looked after and the restaurant and bar were open.

This could be a first class hotel with some money spent restoring all the old features. Wonderful location and beautiful surroundings. Really spacious and clean rooms with all facilities that are needed and more. Staff are more than polite and helpful. They are also friendly, homely and cant do enough for you to resolve any problems. We had a extremely comfortable and enjoyable stay with you in August and will certainly be returning.

Third visit here, lovely old building and good location which is why I have been 3 times, but it is let down by neglect, there are issues with ceilings and general maintenance and the gardens could been lovely if a full time gardener employed
Expecting the worse after reading some other reviews but pleasantly surprised. Beautuful old building, our room had original beams. Ground great fior walking our dog, and the area immediately in front of hotel well maintained.
Staff were lovely, very helpful. Booked in again on ti break our return trip from Yorkshire. Looking forward to it.
The restaurant was clised fir evening meal, advise pre booking a meal at the Risley Park pub, virtually next door. Also great.
Hairs in the bathroom on the floor, insects too!
This hotel does not look anything like the photos and is in desperate need of repair. Not clean at all which surely is rule number 1 to get right, Reception staff were great which was the only saving grace.
Hotel could be lovely but very run down. Car park pitch black when I arrived. Didn’t see another person other than the receptionist. No restaurant. Told to eat breakfast away from hotel. Bedroom and bathroom desperately needed refurbishment. Didn’t feel safe as a lone traveller.

Being refurbished, no restaurant. No breakfast
Being refurbished, so no restaurant. We only found out when we checked in. We were directed to an external restaurant a few minutes away, but that place only opened early during the week.
Room (no.7) was large and contained furniture from all eras; including a bedside lamp that was impossible to plug in! Bed was firm, but comfortable. En suite was showing the lack of decent maintenance.
The property is desperate need of refurbishment which is a shame as it could be a really lovely hotel. The restaurant and bar were closed and we were informed on arrival that there would be no hot food available at breakfast. Breakfast consisted of toast or cornflakes. The room was a good size and was clean however it was cold as the window would not close and we were also therefore awoken in the early hours by another guest loading their car. We only saw one member of staff during our visit and he seemed to be doing everything! Overall it met our needs as a place to stay after a wedding but I wouldn't recommend staying here for any longer period of time!
The staff were great, only could have been in uniform or with name badges so they could be identified. Beautiful historic house but very badly maintained, confusing decor, dirty and neglected. The owners should be ashamed of themselves. Room was hot and stuffy and although there was a fan, this did not work, neither did the tv remote and reception limited. Lucky for us there was another room with patio doors which the staff kindly moved us to. Unorganised breakfast with lack of staff, no bacon, no beans, no orange, no white sugar.
Most of hotel was shut for refurbishment -no bar -no breakfast -no restaurant -no other facilities other than room only -which was NOT what we paid for . Bathroom recently refurbished was excellent -but bedroom lacked central heating and no plug sockets for bedside light- main light fittings in bedroom damaged and mismatched bulbs. Wallpaper hanging off wall in bedroom. Only one member of staff in reception sometimes and she stated Expedia should have told us -Expedia did not know apparently. No member of staff on duty when we checked out either. Requested Expedia chase up and ask for refund /or partial refund .
This was the worst hotel in which we had stayed while visiting Britain for many years. The outside appearance of the hotel is beautiful. The car park, owing to excessive rain, was a muddy bog as it was not paved. The interior has some elegant old furnishings but looks dated and highly neglected. Our room was in the attic and had only skylights with no regular windows. The beds were fairly comfortable. It was a cold day when we arrived - the skylights had been left open and the heating was not working. The staff eventually supplied a stand-up heater. There was no hot water in the bathroom, and showering was painful. The room did. It look clean - there was a proliferation of dust. We ate dinner in the restaurant the first night - the restaurant was cold, we were the only customers, and the food was mediocre. Full English breakfast in the morning was much better.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. I did not make a formal complaint to the management as the attitude seemed to be that such conditions were par for the course for an older property. I was frankly surprised that the property had a license to be in business.
Not a hotel - read the recent reviews! At best, a room to stay with no services, and under construction. We stayed several nights at the Risley while visiting family as it was a convenient location, and this is about all that was positive about the experience. A day before the reservation started, we got an email saying the hotel was under construction and there were no services - too late to cancel or rebook elsewhere. We arrived after 10 to an empty building with a sign to a phone number to call, which was not answered. After walking through creepy hallways of side buildings, we finally found someone and got checked in. The next morning, we were woken by construction workers directly across the hall - we were literally the ONLY guests on this property, and construction was literally ONLY going on outside our door. About two hours later, the staff knocked on our door to give payment, with no regards for "sorry about the noise." The next morning, we were woken by a screeching fire alarm. Again, no apologies or recognition from staff. After that, our expectations were quite low, and we were just happy to sleep. The property might be nice after renovations, but - in the interim - do not stay here if you are expecting a hotel.

Overnight stay, quick and easy check-in and out. Breakfast good value for money. Clean and comfortable, 1 of the 2 room's decor needs some attention but didn't detract from stay. Would stay again. And Dog friendly.
I would visit again. A bit faded but with a certain charm. Staff very friendly

Property in need of modernisation but for £55 b&b was absolutely spot on.
