The house is beautiful and well thought out, with wonderful decks and plenty of places to wash off the sand before entering. I've had other VRBO houses be less than clean, but this home was immaculate and I had no concerns about the bedding.
My group found the beds a little uncomfortable, but we are used to sleeping on Memory Foam mattresses. The bed frames squeak when turning, so 2 restless people in the bed was challenging.
Overall this is an amazing property with gorgeous views, and easy access to both bay and Gulf beaches.
The Ahhh House was perfect for our family of 7 (My wife & I, plus 5 boys ages 6-17). It was very clean...had everything you need to prepare dinners. It has a charcoal grill, but it's a "park-like" grill so no lid, & its a bit difficult to grill if its windy. We had some slight issues with using the key to lock the door when we left & at night. Property management handled it ASAP.
My kids love to fish and throw cast nets, so having easy access to the bay was so awesome. We spent a full day just swimming & fishing in the bay. I assume because of past hurricanes there is some "stuff" in the bay, plus there are rocky areas...just be aware or wear water shoes. The beach access is just across the non-busy street. The beach was awesome. Great sand...great surf. We could pack a wagon, cooler & lunch to spend the day. If someone forgot something it was a 4-5 minute walk back to the house. No crowds at all because only the surrounding single-family homes have access.
We love the beach & fishing. We make most of our meals, so Dauphin Island is perfect for us. If you like a lot of restaurant choices...you'll be dissatisfied. Hit up a grocery before you get on the island...the Ship & Shore has everything you need to fill in for a vacation, but not a ton of selection.
We had almost rain free weather, so it was beach or bay every day, but did spend a morning visiting the Alabama Aquarium, Fort Gaines & other Bird Sanctuary trails followed by lunch at Pirates Bar & Grill. It was great.
The Ahh House was perfect for our family! Close to the beach, the deck was the perfect place for morning coffee, and it was so clean! We definitely enjoyed our time there!
The Ahhh house was everything described and more. Condition of the house and property was flawless and I stay at rentals several times a year, so I have many to compare to. Comfy, spotless, well designed and a perfect location. One of my friends who traveled with me is going back in the fall!
The house was great! Directly across from the beach and also had the bay directly out the back. The kids loves crab hunting at night at the bay! The beds in 3 of the rooms could use better mattresses. But over all a great week at the beach
This house was a great fit for our family. The house was very clean, kitchen was more equipped than many home rentals we have used in the past. Views were amazing, my dad spent every morning on the porch watching the sun rise and enjoying his coffee and book. The bathrooms were clean and the beds were comfortable, although the queen beds were pretty firm (personal preference). We like to cook, so it would have been ideal if the kitchen sink had a disposer, the ice maker was broken and didn't make much ice and leaked all week (we notified the property manager), and the HVAC was insufficient to keep the bedrooms cool during the day (common for beach houses with this design and a single HVAC unit) but they cooled off at night. Other than those minor issues, the house was great, we would consider staying there again.
I’m a surf fisherman who rents 2-3 beach homes per year. This has been one of our favorites! It’s right across the street from the beach which made it easy to haul my gear. The house felt brand new and was well stocked. We can’t wait to come back! The only nits I will pick is that the king bed was pretty hard and while not necessarily due to the owners but more to irresponsible guests, the non-stick cookware needs to be replaced ASAP. I won’t hesitate to rent again.
This bayside house was so clean upon our arrival. It met all of the needs of our party of 7 adults. The layout was amazing and the kitchen was stocked with anything we needed to fix meals. Being able to cross the street & be in the gulf water was awesome. Highly recommend spending time on the back deck to watch the dolphins play. We saw them every day! Drive to the west end beach after 7 pm, parking is free. The sunset views are unbelievable. Sitting on the back deck for sunrises were a favorite past time as well. Bring bug spray! Unfortunately, the mosquitos ate us up. And we had bug spray. It ran us inside early man evenings. We loved the slow pace of the island and took advantage of visiting the fort and aquarium. All the restaurants we visited were so pleasant and welcoming. Highly recommend visiting The Carriage. We were repeat visitors! Try their Sangria! Thank you for giving our family a home away from home with this beach house. It was very restful.
House is in a very good location to beach & bay, easy access to both. Two rear bedroom doors would not lock leaving us a bit uneasy leaving for a length of time. Appliances beginning to show their age, lacking decent stove top pans for cooking/frying, pans have non-stick servicing worn/missing - question safety of continued use. House keeping did a very good job before we arrived.
My parents, my husband, 3 children, and I all stayed comfortably at this private beach house. The island is a perfect getaway! The property was adorable, very spacious, had an amazing bayside view, and was pretty clean. My only two complaints within the property management’s control was the kitchen could have been better stocked (not horrible, but not the best) and, while most of the property was spotless, one of the bedrooms had pet hair of some kind in the bed, there was yucky black mold on the stand of the margarita mixer, and the toilet looked like it had been rushed cleaned.
There were a few things to keep in mind, as well, that aren’t exactly in the property management’s control, but still deserve a heads up. For one, more construction has been done since the pictures, and now the gulf side view is pretty obstructed by other houses. Secondly, the next door neighbor is the “get off my lawn” type. My small kids accidentally crossed the road in front of his house. Even though they quickly switched over, he still came out to fuss at them.
Overall, this house is still a good bet. It’s one of the better priced on the island for all that you get. The beaches don’t have many people, and overall, the people are nice and the atmosphere is relaxed. A perfect vacation for those looking for seclusion and tranquility!
easily the worst place my family and I have stayed in 30+ years. we normally have a group of our family (40+ people) that travel together every year and we were looking for new places this year for all of our family to come. family time was nice as always but we didn’t get to really have a vacation seeing as we were trying to treat the ant infestation that this house has all week. eventually two days before we left, the property manager told the pest control that we have “sugar ants and that they don’t bite” however we are all covered in big bites and the pest control confirmed that it was fire ants and termites! the pest control people were great and apologized multiple times but it was not their fault seeing as it wasn’t made known to them. on top of everything we didn’t have a dryer until our last day which was an inconvenience seeing as we have small children and are at a beach. there were other minor things as well but this all could have been made a better experience if we at least had been shown respect. we tried multiple times through email, text, and calls but we were either ignored or told we’d get a call back which never happened until we went to the office. But like the property manger told us we need to stop making theories and let them know the problems so they can fix it. She also said we have to remember this is an island things are slow and laid back“this isn’t destin, gulf shores, or Mobil.” We were told over and over the manager would call and never did
