I had a very enjoyable stay at the Zambala - it was in a very good location right opposite the steam locomotive shed and 50 m from the station. It was also an easy walk up to the market and main square, and a reasonably easy easy walk to the zoo and the mountain climbing museum and the natural history museum. we enjoyed the back terrace, especially during the Diwali celebrations, where we had a glass of wine and some cheese twists while watching the fireworks. The front balcony was also excellent for watching the steam trains. Despite being on the main road and I against the railway line, the room was very quiet both during the day, and especially at night
They provided some corner room that was having no outside view as promised to me. No heating/heater service available neither they have any arrangements for same. Very disappointed in this hotel. Had to check out next day.

Service is OK To help yourself the most Staff not very friendly.
It was really nice and comfortable stay, above all the hotel is exactly infront of the Darjeeling station, and from the window snowy mountains can be seen too.
This is a physically nice hotel (it is close to the railway station, or the toy train station and it overlooks a nice valley), but it has no soul. It was very cold, and the heating (which we paid for extra, by the way) was not working properly. It was very, very noisy-- because you can hear the loud train and traffic all day. No wi-fi the entire stay, and normal phones are out of range (because where the hotel is). And it was far from everything else :-( Just disappointing on all levels.
Only problem was the extreme spicy food. not understanding that we cant eat such. I contracted bad food poisoning. Even had to make own toast. Very slow staff in kitchen. Desk staff exemplary, very kind and considerate - as we had not anticipated the coldness of Darjeeling. Disappointing that the Zoo and HMI were closed on the only day we were there and we enjoyed the Nepali dress, but need to explain about photos etc in the tea garden. Tea garden tour very informative, excellent guide.
The hotel is just outside of the main area, so it takes approx. 15 mins to walk to the centre. However there is a beautiful view of the mountains and the toy train is on your doorstep. Unfortunately, the bed sheets and duvet were really dirty, there was no heating and it was freezing. When we asked for a heater, they informed us there would be a charge and then told us they didn’t haven’t any left!
We organised the Tiger Hill view point morning trip and we paid at the reception in full, however after check out, the hotel kept calling us to confirm that we had paid - it was super annoying. Finally we had booked a mountain view but we got the ground floor - which was super noisy, we could hear every conversation had at reception, and we did not have a view of the mountain, just the next door building.
The restaurant food and the wait staff were really nice and it was one of the good things about this hotel.
Location was excellent, staff were very helpful. Room was cold as it was winter but they provided a heater at a small extra cost. couldnt get wifi in room. Breakfast was nice and tasty.

It is ok minus the front office staff
Very ill mannerd front office, especially one Mr. Chatri, very rude, behaves with the guest as if it is free accomodation, has no sense of hospitality & courtesy.
