Overall good value, except the noice in my bedroom on the 2nd floor from the kitchen extractor below. Too loud and was left on till beyond 10.30pm and was on again in the morning from 7am. Not acceptable for rooms facing the rear. Reported to the staff and they seems to expect the criticism.

I stayed for one night. The room was clean and warm. The bed was very comfortable. I had dinner in the restaurant which had a menu with plenty of choice. The food was good and plenty of options of drinks behind the bar. The breakfast menu was plentiful. I had poached egg on toast which was served hot and fresh. I would stay again,

Room was fab although could have done with an extra chair when sitting to watch tv in the evening. Clean and tidy. Food was great, service was good. We enjoyed our stay. Good site to tour from, good price point.

Great location in the centre, easy to find and a perfect stop off for us on route. We were bowled over by the helpful friendly welcome which was there till the minute we left. The food was excellent and I can highly recommend the home made beef pie. Looking forward to a return visit when we are heading that way. Thank you to everyone at The Birchtree 😀

Dinner on Friday night was very good except that the staff had all gone from the restaurant by the time we had finished our main course so we didn't get a dessert, Despie being advertised as breakfast from 8am till 11am one of our party failed to get breakfast at 9.45 as there was no staff in the dining room.

Relaxing stay and lovely staff
All staff were lovely. Road noise woke us up at 630 but i didnt mind. Wife did. Room fine. Breakfast cooked fresh. Could have been a few more nice things like fruit and yoghurt

Amazing friendly staff , clean and the bar had a great feel . The food was out of this world. Top restaurant quality. The breakfast was very good in a lovely breakfast room overlooking the river.

Nice place
This is a fairly decent independent hotel within a small town. We were there for a wedding that started at 2. As check in was at 3, we inquired about an early check in to allow us to get ready for the wedding. It wasn’t until we were paying that we were informed that there was a £10 charge for the early check in. Now in these circumstances we needed to get into the room early so would have agreed to pay the extra charge had we been aware of it in advance, but in other circumstances I’d rather spend the extra tenner in the hotel bar. So I think it’s a bit sneaky not to tell us about the charge in advance. Apart from that, no issues with the hotel.

Good location to explore the surrounding area
Average sized bedroom with all the usual facilities in good condition & working order, except for the WIFI hub. However, free WIFI was available in bar area. Breakfast which was included in the room price was varied & of a good standard, as were the meals available in the bar of an evening. Staff were pleasant & helpful. Should be noted that access to the bedrooms was via staircases

Lively pub. Quite noisy. No on-site parking so parked on street. Room was too hot! Staff were friendly and helpful. Wifi worked well but needed to register which wasnt a problem.

The hotel was very clean, and the staff very friendly, but although I had requested a gluten free diet, there was no gluten free at breakfast and I provided my own bread, and the cook obligingly did leave out of the cooked breakfast the wheat products as I pointed out . The evening meal, however, was gluten free and came with a G F menu. The food was great when the GF was sorted, and plenty of it. But the hotel was very good otherwise. Thank you.

We had a very comfortable stay at the Birchtree Hotel. Dalbeattie is a small and pretty town, the parking is free and 30 yards from the hotel. Enjoyed being based here in the Scottish Borders.

A Gem
Excellent value for standard of accommodation. Lovely large room, nice decor with feature bath. Staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. On street parking was not an issue, plenty of spots available. Interior walls are easily marked and need to be kept on top of drips and scuffs - small thing but would make an even better impression.

It was a disappointing experience, its not suited for the oldee generation, we was going to be put on top floor, no lift 4 flights of stairs, the bar was full of youngsters acting about, manager gave the impression he couldn't care whether we stayed or not, we didn't, paid one night then left, wont recommend it

Fine for a short stay
Firstly parking. That will be outside on the street or in a nearby car park. Poor free wifi connection. Kept dropping out every few seconds. Became a waste of time. Room was fine. Had requested a walk in shower and got one so fine. Bit of a strange smell in the shower room however that never went away. Comfortable bed. Had to be at work at 8am so went to breakfast room at 7.15am to be told it didn't open till 8am. On a Monday!? Nothing unusual about turning up for breakfast before 8am I would have thought.

Small hotel. Room small and compact. Problem with check in had to wait till 5:00PM for manager to arrive to update booking list. Evening meal in bar as no other guests. Food good but we felt we were in a youth centre as place full of young people socialising who a few of them turned out to be staff the next morning.

Good size and clean room, BUT noisy because of continu ventilator kitchen. What was very annoying! Room was on the second floor and the car was parked in the street. We have to carry a lot of the luggage up , so not ideal
