"A lovely county castle surrounded by Belted Galloway cattle and sheep. The castle grounds have a fruit trees, herbs and vegetables. Tobias is truly a wonderful gentleman and host. He prepared an amazing breakfast both mornings which consisted of local flavors ( haggis, blood pudding, potato cakes, eggs, bacon and sausage). Tobias gave us a tour of the chapel and grand hall with interesting history. Baron James prepared a formal dinner which was also delicious. We are Maxwell descendants by DNA...

"This is a cracking flat within a short walk of Dumfries town centre. From the outside, the flats don’t look too inspiring, but it’s clearly been renovated recently and it’s been done really nicely. The two rooms are pretty much identical doubles, and the living room/kitchen is a good size. Nice views of the river from most rooms, and a lovely small balcony coming off the main living area. Would definitely come back if in the area."

"The hotel and setting were fantastic. The dinner menu and food were excellent. While a full breakfast was offered we opted for the continental breakfast which was very ordinary. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable but the room's furnishing were sparse. There were no outlets on either side of the bed which can be a minor inconvenience if use your phone as your bedside clock and still need to charge it. All said, the character of the hotel and the friendly staff made this a perfect stop."

We enjoyed a pleasant drink on the lovely patio overlooking the river followed by a tasty meal in the bar. Breakfast was excellent . Our room was fairly basic with quite a small ensuite . "We really enjoyed our stay in the Art Bank, Mandy made us feel very welcome, and her brilliant breakfasts set us up for the day. The Art Bank is very well named, we loved the range of art work on display, and the artistically themed rooms. We stayed in the Monet room, which was comfortable and peaceful. We didn't mind the shared bathroom, we never had any issues sharing it with the other guest, and even managed a relaxing bath. We appreciated all the little touches, and having access to a fridge and microwave. We would be very happy to stay here again, and we may invite some friends to join us next time."
