Private historical completely renovated cottage with 60 ft dock on Sarasota Bay

The Gray House is a completely renovated historical cottage dating back to the early 1900s, in the historical fishing village of Cortez, Florida. The village was founded in 1865. The house was built on stilts by Mr. Ireland in1870 . He sold the house to Grey Fulford in 1931. Grey moved the house on to land.
He married Priscilla Pringle and lived there until 1989.
The cottage has original hardwood floors, marble counter tops ,and beautiful views. The cottage has a king bed, pull out couch in the second bedroom , dish washer, built in refrigerator, gas stove, large microwave, grill, table and chairs on the back deck. The bath is spacious with a walk in double shower. There are 2 TVs with internet stations and apple tv.
The house is located on a 2.5 acre lot with a 60 foot dock on Sarasota Bay. There is (1) deep water slip and Kayaks (3) available on the premises with (3) fishing rods and beach equipment..
The cottage has plenty of parking for boat trailers It is landscaped with indigenous plants only. The house is wheel chair accessible from a walkway and ramps up through the back door.
This is a perfect place to getaway and safely, relax.
The cottage is dog friendly but 😣 no cats or birds .

A beautiful stay on the water in quaint Cortez

We loved staying here. The views from the home and dock are unbeatable and the home has all the amenities you need to cook/bbq. We used the kayak and enjoyed checking our local restaurants. Convenient location to AMI too!

Fantastic Stay!

Such a wonderful rental. It's a historic property with an above average renovation. The amenities and host communication made for an excellent stay We were there a couple of weeks after the hurricanes and except for a couple of exterior features the entire property was near perfect.

Wonderful place!

The house and location were amazing. We came shortly after the hurricanes (Helene and Milton), so the area was still rebuilding, but this house was an oasis. You can't beat the view, walking distance to some great restaurants, truly a special place. The house was very clean and equipped with almost everything you could possibly need. Can't wait to come back!

We loved this place!! So peaceful and off the beaten track. Great restaurants, ice cream and a coffee shop (Foxi’s-worth going with beautiful garden). Easy access to AMI and beaches galore! Amazing and relaxing home

We absolutely loved the house, property, and community. The house is very beautifully renovated and has very high quality amenities. So nice to be right on the Bay, spent lots of time bird watching and just relaxing. The house really encourages you to kick back and relax. I've been going to Cortez Village for years to go to the Starfish Company so highly recommend supporting this great local business. Make sure to go to their fish market for delicious fresh local fish to cook on the grill at the house. Host was very responsive and flexible. Amazing experience! We will definitely be back!

Beautiful Refreshing Vacation Paradise

My husband and I wanted a relaxing, laid back holiday on the water after the busyness of Christmas and we got it! This lovely restored home sits on the bay with a 60 foot dock in the fishing community of Cortez, FL. If you want the comforts of home in a cool historic community, surrounded by water and beautiful beaches on nearby Anna Maria Island, then this home is for you! We walked to a fun restaurant in the neighborhood and bought fresh fish from the nearby Starfish Market and never had to leave the house unless we wanted to adventure on the beautiful Gulf beaches of Anna Maria. Hope to be back soon! The owner is great with communication too!

Our favourite getaway!

A few years ago we found this listing and have found our perfect “getaway” retreat and have stayed many times since. It has now become a place where we share many memories with our daughter most recently Mother’s Day and a Birthday. The space is beautifully decorated with along with a beautiful gourmet kitchen that we love to prepare meals in. With waterfront views and a patio deck with plenty outdoor seating to relax and cook on a Weber grill we need not go anywhere although there is plenty to do being close to to Anna Marie Island and Longboat Key as well as Sarasota/Bradenton for plenty of activities. the owners are always helpful and friendly and make us feel right at home. Highly recommend!

Spectacular

This location is so perfect. We live in a year round tourist area so we were after some peace. So close to Anna Maria for the beaches. Lots of seafood within walking distance. Great fishing off the pier. Very well appointed private house. Kitchen and bathrooms, awesome! Bonus- fridge makes ice. Close to Bradenton for anything at all you may need. I highly recommend this property and plan on visiting again. It was EXACTLY what we were looking for. We never even turned on a tv as there was plenty to watch live off the Large back deck (which is covered). Thank you for such a great 60th birthday. Cortez is a gem of a spot.

Well suited for a couples getaway!

This is a very quiet and relaxing space, and is set up well for a couple. Within three or four blocks of the cottage there are places you can walk to have a meal. Within a 20 minute drive is one of the nicest beaches we’ve ever seen. The location is about a half hour from Sarasota and about an hour from St. Petersburg. There are some lovely restaurants located Ana Maria Island about 20 minutes drive. The cottage itself is outfitted well, clean and we found everything we needed. It was comfortable and restful. This location is superb for birdwatching. You will see all kinds of waterfowl. It was like a continual parade of Heron, pelican, and other birds like frigatebirds. I highly recommend it!

As advertised & Better!

After initially arriving at address a block away, we were delighted to locate The Gray House behind it! In addition to all that the listing shows is included, there were lovely small touches such as spices, custom coffee mugs, fresh water on the pier, bug spray & zappers on the porch and lots more. Really made the place feel like home, and location was perfect. Discovered Swordfish Grill & Cortez Kitchen hidden around the (water) corner and easy to get to all the popular places nearby: Bridge Street, AMI, St Armand's, Jewfish Key sandbar, gulf sunsets and so much more. And the folks in the quaint historic neighborhood were very kind and new boater accommodating. A little tight when our 2 adult-age daughters showed up but we were there to enjoy the outdoors and we did. Thank you, every thumb up I/we have!

Private and Quiet House on Cortez

The house is so charming,cozy, and modern. The architecture inside is very unique. There's a beautiful view of the water from the entire inside, and palm trees can be seen through all the windows. We brought fresh fish back from the nearby fish market and grilled on the deck. We regularly took the provided beach chairs and umbrella to Cortez beach. My husband especially enjoyed fishing on the fishing dock. I loved seeing the birds there.We rarely saw anyone at other docks so it was super private. The front yard is big which provides extra privacy at the house.There's an unattached garage out by the street which is very far away from the house-- which the owner occasionally visits, perhaps doing some quiet work inside of it. Briefly we saw him tending plants on the grounds but he stayed at a distance as if not to bother us. He was friendly when we approached him and was very accommodating and easy going. He provided countless perks that we greatly appreciated, from fishing bait-- to shampoo- to laundry soap! There's the cutest pineapple growing out front that we always fawned over when we came and went. Lots of awesome wildlife, too. Hope to come back soon!

We had a fabulous time! The cottage is very comfortable and has everything you could possibly need. We fished off of the dock and walked over to Anna Maria Island everday. The beaches are lovely.
