Reuben Dimond House, Renovated Historic Farmhouse in the Capital, Concord, NH.

The Reuben Dimond house is located in Concord, New Hampshire; a central location with easy access to a major state highway. Day trippers will find this location convenient to jump onto the highway and head north or south, or to simply wander the back roads and enjoy the sights of New England.
Named after its original owner, this recently renovated farmhouse, circa 1767, sits at the end of a dead-end road surrounded by farm and conservation land. It provides privacy for a quiet rural get-a-way while located only minutes from Concord's Main Street and the State Capital. It provides the feel of the country while being only a few minutes from a busy and vibrant New England city. Downtown Concord offers excellent dinning, theater, cinema, shopping and more.

Step out the front door to find just one of the city's-maintained trails for hiking, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, or just communing with nature. Concord has over 85 miles of dedicated hiking and biking trail available to residents and visitors alike.

The groomed 1.4-acre farmhouse lot provides excellent space for all your outdoor recreational activities, such as, wiffleball, badminton, volleyball, croquet, horseshoes, etc. While sitting next to the fire pit, you may encounter deer, turkeys, and other native animals and birds.

Just up the road, at the top of the hill, is a working farm (Rossview Farm). If you catch them in season, you can pick your own strawberries, blueberries, or pumpkins. During late February and early March, you can sample maple syrup hot from the evaporator. In December it's cut your own Christmas tree time.

The kitchen is well equipped for enjoying your morning coffee or tea and cooking and baking on inside days. The historic summer kitchen now includes a reading nook and laundry closet. During the winter months a fire may be built in the wood stove to allow for a comfortable and relaxing read or to simply dry out your damp clothes from the outdoors activities.

The house was built prior to the revolutionary war. Its exterior walls are of plank construction (i.e., 3-inch-thick pine planks 15 to 24 inches wide and 8 foot tall. This was possible when sawmills became available and log cabins were no longer the only possibility.

A couple of unique items must also be noted. The staircase leading to the second floor is described as a "fan staircase" because it is narrow at the bottom and fans out to be very wide at the top. It is doubtful you have seen a like staircase.
The other notable item is the small 8-inch by 8-inch window located at the top corner of the southwest wall of the main house. It is reported this window was an Indian look out. When there was notice of a raiding party traveling down the Merrimack River, the family would hide in the crawl space and watch until the danger was over. The window also provided light into the crawl space. Remember, there was no electricity in 1767.

What we love about this property is the quiet. Most nights you can sit outside and hear nothing but the wind through the trees and the crackling of the fire in the fire pit.

Peace and quiet stay

The owner Lynn saved an old treasure. Such a cool piece of history that he has updated and created a comfy place to stay. If we ever need to return to the area, we would certainly stay again.

Fantastic Property

Wonderful stay in this beautiful historic property. Lynn greeted us at check in and gave us the full run down of the property and set the tone for a great long weekend away. Reliable wifi and a TV with all the apps if you're looking to stay connected and plenty of opportunities to disconnect with trails starting right out the front door, a fire pit, and books and games to take advantage of. Close to so many activities in the area but far enough away to enjoy total solitude as well.

Wonderful serene location

Husband and I stayed at the renovated farmhouse and loved it. Clean, private, comfortable beds, great water pressure in shower. Beautifully renovated. Decorated well and very very spacious farmhouse. We used it as a base to visit places in New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Very tasteful modernization of an old farmhouse - if you enjoy old houses, this house is just fun. Very quiet, peaceful location, but convenient to downtown Concord. Great communication with Lynn - thanks!

Rustic restoration full of history

Impressive rustic restoration with modern amenities, in a quiet setting. Owner poured his heart into fixing up this old house. Very private, large lawn, firepit. Owner picked blueberries for our arrival (they were yummy!) We really enjoyed our stay.

Fall in New England

This property was exactly as advertised and it was exactly what we wanted. Just wish we could have stayed a few more days! Very comfortable and peaceful. Lynn did an awesome job refurbishing this beautiful home. We were able to visit NH, VT and ME, and the timing was pretty perfect for us Floridians. The fall colors were just what I hoped for!!

Foliage Weekend Trip

The house is located in a very quiet area surround by beautiful colors in the fall. House is comfortable, a historic house with all the amenities for a comfortable stay. Easy access, host was very responsive. Once we checked in, there was no need to communicate with host since all the instructions are very clear and house had everything we needed. Highly recommend the house and the area

Beautiful secluded restored colonial

Just as described, the beautiful restoration was secluded and quiet and close to Concord and Contoocook. We stocked up on local farm goods at the nearby Dimond Hill Farm. The house was well stocked in linens and the kitchen, and activity shed. We even had a cute baby porcupine grazing nearby as we had some morning coffee by the fire pit.

Wonderful Historic Property

We had the most wonderful Christmas in this historic home. Everything was perfect and the host thought of everything we might need. The location was secluded, but not too far away from the city. Loved the nature trails and the beautiful landscape surrounding the home. It was the perfect reconnect for our family. The biggest plus was the distance - everything was just about an hour away - coast, mountains, Vermont, Boston - LOVED IT - it was the perfect hub.

A perfect family escape

Lynn and his family were so welcoming and hospitable. This was our first family vacation and as it turns out, it was their first booking. The property has been beautifully and tastefully revived almost entirely by Lynn and family. We really enjoyed looking at the before and after photos- it’s clear that allot of love and attention went into this home. The yard is huge and has everything you could want to keep the kiddos entertained as well as a well appointed fire pit for s’mores. The rooms were comfy and cozy. And the kitchen came stocked with every sort of appliance and kitchen ware you could possibly want. It really felt like a home away from home. We truly enjoyed our stay and hope to visit again some day.

Beautiful, historic building (renovated to modern standards)

Well-maintained, modern appliances, quiet spot in the forest (next to a nicely paved lane). Met Lyn shortly upon arrival; he was a most gracious host who quickly gave a rundown of the space. Other than the outdoor mosquitoes (to be expected in the summer) and a memorable firefly in the bedroom, we enjoyed our time at the Reuben Dimond House.

Summer Solitude

What a peaceful summertime 3 week stay! It was our second visit to this sweetly restored farm house, the first having been in winter splendor. This time we especially enjoyed the well maintained acreage, wildflowers, visits from local wildlife including deer, turkeys, and a pudgy porcupine, as well as the large outdoor fire ring. We look forward to our upcoming autumn visit.

Felt like staying at a friend's place

So well equipped and comfortable. As a city girl, it did take some time to get use to the quiet of the woods surrounding the home. But it was peaceful and still very accessible to everything in Concord.

This charming Farmhouse had everything we needed and more. Historic structure with modern amenities. Location close to town but peaceful quiet. Didn't have time to sit by the fire outside but hope to next time. Highly recommend. Hosts were prompt, good communication, and accommodating.

Rural Escape

The stay was fantastic. The home and property was really cool! There were a few wasps in the home, I feel obligated to say in case any others have allergies. I was able to take care of any within the home and Lynn was very quick to respond, come out to inspect, and sprayed the exterior to prevent any further issues. The home is quite removed from the locale, which was perfect for us. That said, it is within 15-30 minutes of downtown concord and Manchester.

Lovely old farmhouse

Beautiful house and location. Our only complaints would be that the house itself was fairly loud (creaky floors and no insulation between rooms so can hear when someone is up early or late) and sheer white curtains (making everyone have to get up with the sun), BUT all that said, wonderful old house. Very clean, well maintained, and stocked with everything you'd need. Would definitely recommend!
