Booked this trip last minute and didnt have the opportunity to travel with a tent of my own so this was a great alternative option. It was in proximity to Zion and Bryce canyon and i appreciated how quiet the area is. We had some very cold nights and the heater and blankets did the job and sleeping was comfortable. The whole process was very easy and had.no problems during our stay.

This is a unique find for us. We were traveling between Bryce Canyon, Zion, and the North Rim and this was centrally located. Everything was new and clean. The amenities made things very convenient and comfortable. It was quiet and peaceful all around.

Really cool experience! The property grounds were well taken care of, showers and restrooms were clean and well stocked, and the wagon we slept in was very comfortable. The comfortable bed let us have a great nights sleep. All the other guest were well spaced out and respectful of noise. Not much to eat or do around the area but the property made up for it and I would definitely stay again.

My wife and I recently had the opportunity to stay at this unique property on the outskirts of Colorado City, AZ. I mean how often do you get to sleep in a pioneer style covered wagon!?! 😊 Wagon was spacious & clean with a very comfortable bed. Hosts thoughtfully provided a small firepit (which we used) and a grill (which we didn’t). Firewood and charcoal available, along with pretty much anything else you can think of. Groceries nearby allowed us to enjoy an evening picnic on the picnic table beside our wagon. Showers & bathrooms were clean, nearby and well lit at night. We stayed up outside in the evening looking at stars. Wow the stars! Amazingly quiet except for the occasional coyote howling in the desert which you back onto (solid wall fence provided barrier and great views). Great place to stay… highly recommend if you like a sense of adventure and romance!

Great Camping Experience at Desert Sage

I had the pleasure of speaking to both Aaron and Danny, who are the owners when setting up my stay at Desert Sage. They are both great, friendly, and very accommodating individuals. The tents are clean, roomy and the campgrounds provide an opportunity for the camping experience but the convivences of restrooms and showers are close at hand. This is a perfect spot for grilling, campfires and stargazing just outside of your tent.

Highly recommend. Better sleep than hotel!

Wow, the mattresses were the most comfortable that I’ve ever slept on! So thick and supportive. Usually hotels provide very soft and flimsy mattresses but these were quite new and firm! Loved it. The blankets were so soft and warm. I didn’t use many of the amenities like cooler, A/C, or even electricity inside the tent, but I did use the bathrooms and they were excellent! Hot showers and plenty of toilets and showers to accommodate everyone. Super clean. Easy to check-in. Hosts were very friendly and proactive via text. Quiet and nice and cold at night (perfect for sleeping!). Highly recommend just for the AMAZING mattresses and blankets!

Excellent experience!!!

Where to start, it is a dream place, quiet, with a great view. The experience of sleeping in a wagon is unique. The desert is hot during the day and cold at night, and the wagon has air conditioning and heating for optimal comfort. The amenities are very adequate, toilets, showers, everything you need. Communication with the owner was excellent. Although he was not physically on the property, it felt like he was. The office is open 24 hours and you can stock up on what is necessary for the stay, such as utensils to use the grill, etc.

This business hasn’t been open for very long. Walking around the property one could tell how hard people were working to add decorative touches to the landscaping. My husband and I stayed in one of the covered wagons. During the night a strong wind started to blow. The wagon top moved some which I enjoyed. It made me think about the pioneers and what they must have experienced during their travels. I know it was not the same since I was snuggled in a king sized bed with an a/c heating unit beside me. Bathroom/showers are located across the lawn. Simple luxuries I have taken for granted, which this trip reminded me of. We are planning on staying here again next year and we look forward to seeing how the place has improved. Next time though we will rent one of their tents and compare that experience to our great grandfathers civil war journal. Without hesitation, we would highly recommend this very unique and peaceful place. May your travels be filled with joyful adventures

Run, Don't Walk! The Desert Retreat is a 5-Star

From the moment we arrived at The Desert Retreat, we were absolutely blown away! This isn't just camping; it's a glamping experience elevated to an art form. The attention to detail is simply outstanding. The Desert Retreat offers a variety of charming accommodations, including old-time western-themed tents and wagons, which looked absolutely delightful! We, however, stayed in the cabin unit with a hot tub, and it was an absolute dream. Forget those rustic camping nightmares! The Desert Retreat boasts fantastic amenities, including not one, but two sparkling clean shower stalls and multiple bathroom stalls, plus convenient sinks in each. And get this – one additional bathroom even comes stocked with all the toiletries you could possibly need! Talk about thoughtful! Our cabin was equipped with a full fire pit and a regular grill, perfect for cooking up delicious meals under the stars. They even provide towels and an abundance of firewood at a super reasonable, minimalist cost. For those who love to cook, the free spices and the provision of pots, pans, and utensils were such a wonderful touch. Plus, each site has its own charcoal grill, and The Desert Retreat thoughtfully includes charcoal bags, lighters, and lighter fluid! Worried about the desert heat? Don't be! Every unit comes with its own air conditioning, and thankfully, heat for those cooler desert nights. But what truly made our stay exceptional were the hosts.
