"An excellent place to stay,so peaceful and private. Scenery is amazing. The only thing we needed was a wardrobe or somewhere to store our clothes and some WiFi to help with poor phone signal on our network. Other than that it's an amazing place and we had a great stay."

"It was a very relaxing, peaceful and calming stay. The host was great. It was very pet friendly and the boys loved exploring the garden. The cabin was very clean and comfortable. The log fire was great, firelighters and logs were provided. If you love being out in the countryside then this is the place for you. "

"This is a lovely place to stay, a hidden gem. My only comment would be that we did object to some banging the door and trying to get in at 8:30 this morning. Then as we wouod packing up to leave at around half 10, the same bloke was sat leaning against the front window. Told us he was waiting to clean the place! Him aside we enjoyed our stay"

Affording magnificent views of the Snowdonia National Park, the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) has for nearly half a century now occupied a seven-acre site in a former slate quarry close to Machynlleth. Easily reached by car or bus, and naturally offering free charging for electric vehicles, a visit here may be among the most rewarding and inspiring you could hope to take in Wales. Note also that the name is a little misleading now, as the centre has switched from focusing purely on alternative technologies to all forms of sustainable living.
