"This is the best place we have stayed on the 15 days of Europe travel. After choosing to stay in city centers we decided to stay in the country. This place is dead quiet, bed very comfortable, breakfast enjoyable, staff awesome, very clean and modern. It's a small place but everything was perfect and ease of use. We will be back to this little gem again soon. We would have stayed longer to explore the area with our bikes but we had to catch a flight home from Paris. Excellent bakery near by."

Best Western Saint-Etienne Porte du Forez

8/10 Good

"Easy to get to and good for a stopover. Accueil/ Entree signage could be better."

Domaine la Charpinière, The Originals Collection

10/10 Excellent

"Overall this is a nice property, it has nice grounds and lobby is quite nice. The room is I see appointed but typical hotel room. My only complaint was with the bed, For some reason they put some kind of plastic sheet underneath the cotton sheet, It crinkles when you roll over and it gets folded and was not comfortable. The restaurant was okay but nothing special"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Civens?

The best area to stay in Civens is the village centre, which offers a convenient and appealing base for exploring the region.

The village centre of Civens is quite compact, with its main square and the Église Saint-Pierre at its heart. You'll find a few local shops and a boulangerie here, making it easy to pick up essentials. The streets are generally quiet and well-maintained, providing a pleasant environment.

For couples seeking a tranquil and authentic French experience, staying in the village centre is ideal. It provides a peaceful retreat after days spent exploring the surrounding Auvergne countryside, and you can enjoy leisurely strolls to the local church or simply relax in a setting that feels genuinely French.

Families often find the village centre appealing due to its relaxed pace and easy access to local amenities.

When is the best time to go to Civens?

The best time to visit Civens is during the late spring and early autumn months, specifically from May to June and September to October. These periods offer the most pleasant weather for exploring the Auvergne region.

During late spring, you'll experience mild temperatures and the countryside will be in full bloom, making it ideal for outdoor activities like hiking and cycling. There are also fewer crowds compared to the peak summer months, allowing for a more tranquil experience.

Early autumn brings comfortable temperatures and the beautiful colours of the changing leaves, particularly in the surrounding forests and volcanic landscapes. This is a great time for enjoying local produce and wines, as harvest season is underway. Many local markets and festivals celebrating regional specialities are also held during this period.

While July and August offer the warmest weather, they are also the busiest, with more visitors and higher prices.
