About this property
Farm Experience-In the Heart of Vineyard, Wine and Wedding Country-Spacious
Country Get-a-way:
The GPS address is, 5114 Dick Woods Road, Charlottesville, VA 22903.
Are you looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of 21st century living, step back in time 200 years in order to enjoy the rhythms of nature? Come listen to the rain on a tin roof and sleep in the morning until you are finished.
You and your children can feed the chickens, collect eggs, milk goats or go for a long walk. Due to bio-security and health issues we have a strict no pet policy! The owners live in a separate cottage a short distance away and are available for help or emergency.
You can ring the dinner bell or hang out in the "Man Cave" with the 42 inch flat screen TV. Come away and relax with a glass of wine in the cool of the evening as all the stars in the Milky Way pop out to greet you.
The most amazing part of this saga is that it is available only a short 14 minute drive from the Rotunda at University of Virginia. Quarters Farm is also only 15 minutes from Pippen Hill Vineyard, King Family Vineyard and Pollack Vineyard. We are 45 minutes from Wintergreen and close to many fine restaurants.
One new addition is a catering service provided by close friends. They can have the frig stocked when you arrive or cater a meal during your stay. Prices and information sent upon request.
The history of the farm only adds to the mystique. In 1745 King George of England granted 1800 acres to the Mills family who moved to Virginia and had a three story home built with 6 rooms for themselves and their three sons. This home predates the beginning of construction on Thomas Jefferson's Monticello by 18 years. In the 275 years since then, wings and additions have been added on to the original stone and log construction
My father purchased 180 acres, along with the house, in 1952. It is now a sustainable farm selling pastured eggs, and other products which are all available to our guests. My wife and I live in a house close by and run the farm.
A beautiful kitchen attached to a large screened-in porch, along with a second story porch for enjoying the mountain views with your favorite beverage. 4 bedrooms and two bathrooms will comfortably meet your needs.
ALERT: Due to the design of this historic home, there are NO bathrooms/bedrooms on the ground floor. Access to the living areas is via a flight of stairs.
We believe that you will find this home truly inviting and relaxing, well furnished with antiques and beautiful furniture. The house has a whole house generator, so you will not have to leave in the case of a power outage.

We stayed here over graduation weekend and it couldn't have been more perfect. The hosts were great, friendly and helpful. I was nice to be a little away from the craziness. The house is amazing and the grounds were awesome too!
My friends and I really enjoyed our experience of staying here. It's in a beautiful, serene setting with gorgeous views. The hosts were wonderful, the animals were incredible . . . we would love to stay here again!
My family and I had an amazing time at Quarters Farm and was astonished by the beauty of the home! Words can’t describe the decor and comfort the home feels. Must stay!
From the very second you enter this property you are made to feel welcomed and appreciated. Whether it is from Cynthia, Bill or the incredible Pyrenees Zoe. Taking time out of their day to ensure you have the most amazing time is always done with a smile and a great chat. The house is phenomenal, from the history to the comfort it was absolutely 5 stars. Greeting and feeding the animals most days, spending the afternoons in the covered patio and the evenings downstairs by the fire made this an extremely relaxing and memorable vacation. A short drive to everywhere, we spent time at the historic downtown mall, visited Monticello, and frequented the many wineries surrounding the property, before coming “home” to a warm welcome and incredible vistas. I also highly recommend utilizing Darby Farms for the catering, the food was amazing as was the service. Thankyou, Bill and Cynthia for an incredible home away from home Vacation!!
The property was perfect for our family reunion weekend. The owners are welcoming and accommodating. The location is a beautiful farm but close to area attractions.
This is our second time to stay here and it was again so relaxing! The hosts are awesome and let us enjoy chicken feeding and goat milking. The grounds are beautiful and the place is restful with a screened in porch for fellowship and food since the weather was cool. Definitely our go to place in the area!
We loved this unique home! Even when the power went out the generator kept us comfortable. The basement space all the up to the upstairs guest rooms were so cool and perfect for our group.
We had a great time and found the property exactly as described. Beds were comfy and hosts very hospitable. Really enjoyed the fresh farm eggs and beautiful bouquets throughout the home. Would highly recommend
Although it was a short stay, our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our granddaughters loved feeding the goats, and visiting Miche Tavern and the light show at the Boars Head Inn. Our friendly hosts made our visit all the more enjoyable. Would love to come back.
We went to the John paul jones arena during our stay. It was easy to get to from the farm. We wish we would have had more time to just hang out at the farm, relaxing. The screened in porch was lovely for relaxing and watching the animals. We loved the decor and the whole vibe of the place. Hosts were very gracious, we would love to a return trip in the future.
We had a great stay at this charming, historic home. Bill and Cynthia were amazing and even met us at midnight when we arrived late! The location was beautiful and scenic, and very close to town. We would definitely recommend and we will return! Thanks Bill and Cynthia!
We travelled to Va to visit Monticello, wineries and breweries for my husband's 60th birthday with 3 other couples. The house was about 20minutes from Monticello and Jefferson winery so it was a perfect location for us. We absolutely loved the farm and the house. We got to see the baby goats which were so cute! We loved everything about our trip and the house was perfect for all of us. Thank you for a wonderful time! We would highly recommend staying here!Lisa Lawton
We had a group of 8 that turned into 9, and there was plenty of space for everyone to be comfortable. The goats, cows, chickens, pup, and kitten made the stay even better and Bill and Cynthia, of course, took great care of us throughout the weekend. Wonderful spot for a group/reunion of friends.
Our host were fabulous, our stay was just what our family needed to celebrate and lift each other up. The house is adorable and in excellent condition. Very clean and the host were perfect communicators. It is a working farm and the host allow you to do as much or as little as you wish with the farm animals. If you are looking for a lovely weekend this is the place. The stars were magnificent
We had a class reunion at my house this July 4th, and our guests stayed at the farmhouse. The host was very nice and gave us a tour of the property. The rooms were very clean and full of character. The kids really enjoyed the farm experience, including feeding the chickens and goats, and collecting eggs.
Six adults and two children enjoyed a wonderful holiday weekend at Quarters Farm. The setting provided lovely views across the countryside and all enjoyed the historic property and its surroundings. The children were able to help with feeding the goats and chickens making it extra special. We all left feeling relaxed and appreciative of the time we spent there. Our hosts, Bill and Cynthia were most welcoming and helpful, and ensured the children also had a memorable time. We all agreed it was a setting and weekend to remember!
Exceeded expectations. Wonderful experience for all of us
Granddaughter got to milk goats. Beautiful walk in the woods to pond. Mountain and farm animal viewing out all of our windows. House felt like home immediately. Hosts were amazing. Couldn’t have asked for better.
This week could not have been more satisfying. We were looking for a wonderful place to spend much-needed time together as a family, and that is exactly what we got.The house is lovely, and so neat and clean - full of gorgeous antiques and comfortable places to curl up. But the majority of our time was spent on the screened-in porch, soaking in the soft air and watching the horses, cows, chickens, baby goats(!) and one ridiculously adorable donkey meander through the pastures all around us.Our hosts were so kind, friendly, and knowledgeable about the area, always ready to assist at any moment with our needs. We would come back here in a heartbeat. Incredible week, incredible property.
We had a great family visit at Quarters Farm. Bill and Cynthia were excellent hosts. They let the children feed the chickens and goats and help collect eggs. We loved the historic house and walking the loop around by the lake. It was a great base for visiting Monticello, UVA, and local orchards and restaurants. But we also really enjoyed just staying at the house and sitting on the screen porch and watching the cows graze and the goats cross the field. Bill and Cynthia, thank you again for your hospitality!
