Newly Renovated close to Downtown & Folly Beach

Completely renovated in January 2022, Highland Cottage offers the perfect location in laid-back James Island, a suburb of Downtown Charleston. Ideally located 4 miles from Historic Downtown Charleston and 7 miles from Folly Beach. The cottage is equipped with a full-service kitchen with brand new appliances, Rinnai gas hot-water heater and outdoor grill. Within a one-block easy walk, you have access to many restaurants and one block from Starbucks. We are also only 1 block away from the closest public bus stop with access to Downtown Charleston. Beach chairs and a cooler are onsite and available to our guests. Great affordable option for visiting Charleston.

Perfect location, great host
Firstly to say how helpful,kind and friendly Kit is. She really goes out of her way to ensure you have the best experience possible. The property is in an ideal location with easy access to Charleston and Folly beach - although would definitely recommend you have a car. The neighbourhood is quiet and lovely , and there's a reasonable bar and restaurant at the top of the road. The accommodation was good, clean, comfortable, well stocked. There are even beach chairs and umbrella provided. That's in addition to the tandem, although we didn't test that out !! Would happily stay here again, and highly recommend.

Great Charleston hospitality
The property is newly renovated; it is lovely and welcoming inside. I did not have a chance to enjoy the outdoor seating, although it looked very nice. The bedrooms and bathrooms are very clean and comfortable. The kitchen is stocked with amenities; the dining/living room area has a great tv. The heating units work very well and are quiet. The house is well lit inside and out. We made our way to the bus every morning; it was an easy trip downtown. Kit really went above and beyond. She checked in with me both before and after I arrived. When she heard I did not have a car, she graciously gave me a lift to and from the grocery! That was a great help. I will definitely consider staying at one of her properties on future visits to the area. I gave location 4 stars because the main road nearby is really not walkable - although the bus (and a nice bbq restaurant) is close by. With a car, I would give it 5 stars.

We’ve stayed in many rental condos & homes. We don’t like to leave negative reviews because we don’t want to hurt feelings or ratings. But we personally use other’s reviews for decisions. My husband & I spend too much time & money on vacations to waste either. This is a duplex, which is not indicated in the listing. It wasn’t a problem for us, but it might be a deciding factor for others. The unit smells musty. The owner said it was because the heat must have been turned on the first time this season. However, each day we left and came back (within a week), it still smelled musty. The floors looked clean, but left the bottom of our socks black. There is one small tv in the den, none in bedrooms. All of the kitchen cabinets were low, which meant we had to bend over constantly to reach cookware and dinnerware. With a bad back, that was limiting. Each bed is full size, kinda small for 2 adults. The unit is centrally located to the beach and Charleston. The washer/dryer are nice. Beach chairs (straps broken) & towels were useful. Judy, the handy-woman, is very helpful. It’s a fairly quiet neighborhood. Folly beach is about 6 miles away. Attention ALL VRBO landlords, We pay a cleaning fee. Therefore, we no longer will remove or wash bed linens when we leave, especially at 4 AM to catch a flight. Nor will we haul the trash cans to the curb & back. We’re on vacation. The cost was reasonable, but for the musty odor, we won’t be back.

Safe and peaceful
This location is in a safe, quiet neighborhood. Wonderful BBQ restaurant in the back door. Wood for fire pit outside. Quick drive to Charleston or folly beach. Kit is wonderful to deal with. We really enjoyed our stay here.

Great Location and a Really Nice Property
This is a great place to stay, but you really need a car if you want to get around Charleston. It's about a 15 minute drive to the historic part. The place is great - 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Pretty quiet area. They have everything for a nice stay. Clean and well- maintained.

Great place
This place met all of our needs from the location to all of our activities. The kitchen is will stocked with appliances and even comes with outdoor grill and a fire pit if you choose to use it. The beds are very nice. All in all you couldn't ask for a better place to stay.
