"We were happily surprised by the size of the accomodation. It was comfortable and had everything we needed for a relaxing evening.
Easy to reach by car, and parking outside the room made it convenient to unload our luggage. Well positioned to continue our journey on to Adelaide."

I liked that parking was behind secure fencing and that all rooms have a washing machine and dryer with some detergent to use. I like the sink and full size fridge, excellent if travelling long distances. Also close to Woolworths, the bottle shop and nice pool.

Close to takeaways and a fine restaurant at the Western Hotel. Good air conditioner and nicely finished bathroom. Plentiful continental breakfast provided for the fare.

King bed was very comfortable. Kids loved the bunks. Wifi was unavailable inside the cabin but the kids needed a screen break anyway. My only complaint was the lighting which was cold white and very austere. A couple of mood lights would be nice ie a reading lamp in the lounge. My bedside lamp wouldn’t work.

I had a great stay at Costello Hotels Port Augusta. The hotel was very clean and well maintained, and you can really tell that it has been newly renovated. The rooms felt fresh, modern, and comfortable.
One of the best things about the hotel is its location right in the heart of the city, making it easy to access restaurants, shops, and other local attractions. It was very convenient for both a quick stopover and a longer stay.
Another big plus was the availability of parking, which made...

The best area to stay in Carriewerloo is the central township, particularly around the historic railway station and the main street, Railway Terrace.
This area is the heart of Carriewerloo, offering the most convenient access to local amenities and the unique character of the town. Railway Terrace is dotted with a few local shops and eateries, and the railway station, while no longer a major transport hub, serves as a focal point for the town's history. It's a compact and walkable area, great for those who enjoy strolling through a quiet, historic setting.
Couples looking for a peaceful escape will find this area particularly appealing. The unhurried pace and the connection to the region's pastoral heritage provide a relaxing backdrop for a getaway. You'll be close to any local points of interest, such as the small community hall or the historic shearing sheds which occasionally host events.
For solo travellers seeking a tranquil retreat, staying near the centre provides a comfortable base. The limited number of accommodations here often means a more personalised experience, and it's easy to connect with the local community if you wish.
When is the best time to go to Carriewerloo?
The best time to visit Carriewerloo is during the cooler months, from April to October, to avoid the intense summer heat and enjoy more comfortable outdoor activities.
During this period, the weather is generally mild and pleasant, with average daytime temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C. This makes it ideal for exploring the natural landscapes, such as the nearby Flinders Ranges, or simply relaxing in the peaceful environment.
Couples looking for a tranquil escape will find these months particularly appealing. The clear skies and cooler evenings are superb for stargazing, and the milder temperatures allow for enjoyable walks and drives through the scenic countryside without the discomfort of extreme heat.
For those interested in photography, the light during these months is often softer, enhancing the beauty of the outback scenery.
