In lovely surroundings of peaceful open countryside, on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, this award-winning, detached barn conversion, with its own small garden, is built around a cobbled courtyard and reached by a ¾-mile long farm track. Ingenious design has retained the barn’s unique character, while creating very spacious and well-equipped accommodation, ideal for holidays at any time of year. Set away from the farmyard, it is surrounded by farmland where sheep and cows quietly graze. There are wonderful walks straight from the door, with the fells and mighty Ingleborough in sight. At Ingleton (6 miles), there are miles of paths with steps and bridges along a wooded valley where waterfalls abound, and nearby White Scar Caves display classic features of limestone caverns. The very pretty market town of Kirkby Lonsdale is just 4 miles away, offering shops, inns, restaurants and a golf course.
Cowder Barn is ideally located between two National Parks – the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District – both within easy touring distance and offering some of England’s most dramatic scenery. Rushing rivers flow down the main dales of Wensleydale, Swaledale and Wharfedale, surrounded by the high peaks of the Pennines, and high waterfalls, such as Hardraw Force near Hawes, make spectacular sights. Everywhere grey-stone villages blend effortlessly into an unspoilt landscape. The Lakes offer a land of exciting contrasts – high mountains and deep lakes in an ever-changing array of colours. Fishing and water sports can be enjoyed, or for the less energetic, sheepdog trials, Cumberland wrestling and fell races make good spectator sports. The coast is easily accessible, with the wide sandy beach at Morecambe only 16 miles away. Shops 4 miles, pub 1 mile.

It is a super place and perfect for our group of eight men from Leeds Men Group.
It is a super place and perfect for our group of eight men from Leeds Men Group. We had one man with very restricted movement but he was able to cope with the almost everything on one level layout. It was the first time he had been away in years and this place enabled us to bring him away and have a stress free experience. The kitchen was very well equiped and comfortable, the sitting room was really lovely with comfortable sofas and open fire. We would definitely book again.
Brilliant weekend away celebrating my daughters 12th birthday - slight issue with things left over in top drawer from previous guests, would definitely go again

An amazing barn conversion.
An amazing barn conversion. Brought up in the local area but moved south, brought family up for their first visit to the area. Everyone was amazed and how nice the barn was and the fact it was set away slightly. Amazing scenery nearby and awesome location for both the dales and the lakes. Great set up in the barn and plenty of space for 10-11 people not to be under each other’s feet. Electric hob takes a bit of getting used to, but everything else was great. Will definitely be booking again.

very nice if you truly want to get away from it all.
very nice if you truly want to get away from it all. its about a mile down a farm track with large potholes in it so the car takes some stick, good amenities although a tad tired. beds were a little uncomfy. Having said all that its a great house and was fab when we got the logs burning in the fires x

We have been to this cottage on a number of occasions and always have a great time.
We have been to this cottage on a number of occasions and always have a great time. There is plenty of space for adults and children. It is not the most luxurious but is comfortable and relaxing with a good level of equipment.
The access road is quite pot-holed and can be quite a challenge.
The surrounding area is beautiful for cycling and walking: Kirkby Lonsdale is only 5 mins away and has a fantastic range of shops and restaurants.
The local pub at the bottom of the drive "The Highwayman" does good food and is an added bonus.

The road leading to the cottage is pitted and unmade.
The road leading to the cottage is pitted and unmade. (SO WHAT)
The beauty at the end of the road over-rides this big time, the remote location with fantastic views, the cottage itself is an absolute joy, everything you could ever want or need is provided, the huge kitchen/diner is perfect for family groups, spacious, comfortable and log fires, wonderful.

A very very cosy atmosphere and a rural peaceful setting which we was looking for the only thing we was a bit disappointed with was the games room which could have had a better pool table otherwise faultless

Thoroughly enjoyed our week at Cowdber Barn, there was plenty of space and the games room was a grea
Thoroughly enjoyed our week at Cowdber Barn, there was plenty of space and the games room was a great hit with the kids (and adults!). My only negative would be that there's only 1 double bed and the cleanliness wasn't to the highest standard. That being said we had the best time and would definitely be back.

Super property for large group.
Super property for large group. Our family have had a get together several times at Cowdber Barn. Courtyard and small rear garden. Very secluded, apart from sheep in adjoining fields. All facilities and equipment you could need. Fantastic large games room. Some stone steps in the property. Good bedrooms and bathrooms. Thoroughly recommended.

What a lovely place, beautiful location and everything we needed for a group of 10.
What a lovely place, beautiful location and everything we needed for a group of 10. Excellent value for money. The games room was a god send with the bad weather. The only gripes (and these are very small - not really worth mentioning) Could use a bigger oven for so many people and the heating took forever to heat such a big place even with the fires.
We loved it so much, we are looking to book it in the summer, I cant wait to sit in the courtyard with the bbq and and a glass of wine and look out over the hillside, just bliss ;-)

This was our second visit to the barn and was just what was needed.
This was our second visit to the barn and was just what was needed. 10 friends getting together for a catch-up.
Plenty of space inside and out. Great games room, massive kitchen and a cozy living room make this barn a great place to stay.
