"The computer screen at the car park access barrier needs looking at. It is impossible to read the instructions on it in certain weathers, certainly in sunshine. Staff seemed aware of the problem"
"I'd always wanted to stay as I'd passed the hotel many times. First, parking -you have to pay. Underground is £25, overground £13.50. Not good. Receptionist helpfully told me to move car from underground to save money. Went to get light lunch on cafe/bar in foyer. Lots of staff milling about but took some time to be served and then wrong sandwich arrived. Also would have expected a decent sized tea pot instead of one that help one and a bit cups. Room was OK, comfy bed, but had to get maintenance to fix the plug plunger for the sink. Would have expected housekeeping to notice this. Then, after I went to bed I tried to adjust the AC but it just kept reverting to "high" so had to call reception at 1.30am to fix it. Fortunately it was fixed remotely. Dined in The Grill. The hotel thoughtfully provide minibuses to get you around the site. Waiting staff were helpful and friendly but I didn't care much for the food - moules mariniere. Strange taste. There was plentiful food at breakfast but it was all s but bland. Overall it was a disappointing stay for a 5 star hotel. I prefer the Vale Resort. Kettle had scale on outside."
"The staff were really accommodating for a last minute booking including providing interconnected rooms. I actually requested rooms on the same floor but the interconnected was offered and was perfect!"
"Excellent hotel just a short walk from the city centre. The room was spacious, clean, and quiet. I didn’t use the spa, but the breakfast buffet is very good value. There is parking behind the hotel but there is also Dumfries Place, a large multi story car park, about 5 minutes away."
"The inside of the hotel looks dated and tired and is certainly in need of an uplift.
The room I was assigned had air-conditioning that did not worked. When I asked, the counter staff stated that the entire hotel was facing this issue and hence could not cater to a room change.
I was given an extra fan (which did not work, and I had to ask for a change), but even having two fans in the room at night still constituted a sauna and sleepless nights. And these two days also overlapped with a heatwave.
A very belated internet checks showed reviews dating back years that the hotel has (and remains yet unfixed) AC problems.
Also, after I got some laundry done, I was requested to pick up the clean laundry from the front counter myself, no reason was given. Throughout my travels, I have never had to self-pickup clean laundry, it is sad to note that even 3-star hotels in less established countries have done better than the Cardiff Marriott in this regard.
The Marriott brand has always been trusted, and I had booked this stay without the slightest hesitation with no additional homework done. Instead of the satisfactory experience I had expected, I was disappointed that the condition of the property and the unresolved issues encountered during my stay did not reflect the standards I normally associate with the Marriott brand."
"Thoughtful, friendly receptionists, cheerful serving staff, room had a beautiful view and was clean. No complaints other than old cobwebs in the swimming pool windows and pool was crowded and noisy due to kids swimming lessons, which cut the useable area of pool to half"
"We arrived early from overseas flight. Manager front desk told us we were too early, no rooms available. I asked did she want to check, she said no need, she knew. Said she would store our bags. That’s it. I asked for a map, she gave a booklet, said turn left, turn left, turn right.
Much better reception at The Parkgate. Warm welcome, invited us to rest our feet, directions of things to do, 100% stay at The Parkgate. Avoid Hilton Cardiff."
