"My husband and I visited Rocky Gap for a weekend in August. We went to a comedy show Thursday night and enjoyed the small venue area for the comedian. The doors opened at 7 and once we sat down, we had access to a small bar in the room. No snacks or appetizers in the show room.
The next day we hiked the lake loop trail. It’s 5 miles and easy to walk with mostly flat trail. Relaxing afternooon, lots of spots to sit around the lake and bring down drinks from the bar - signatures. The outside bar opens at around 2:00.
The Casino was clean and did not have a heavy smoke smell. They had nooks for people who wanted to smoke. The casino staff were exceptionally nice at the craps table. It was my first time playing craps and they were so helpful and made me feel comfortable trying out the game.
We didn’t get a chance to check out the golf area but plan to go back for another visit soon. The only negative is the lack of staff for the restaurants- which is just a problem everywhere right now. They were unable to seat us at the lakeside restaurant even with a lot of tables obviously empty. The lobby food selection was okay. The signatures sports bar and lakeside restaurant were the two best options for food.
The room was clean and had a nice view of the pool and lake. The room did not smell like smoke.
Nice place for a weekend trip! Friendly staff. Clean and safe. "
Secluded, romantic cabin with hot tub on 12 acres of woodland.
10/10 Excellent
"Clean, well-appointed space. Check-in was easy as could be. When I needed to call the owner, I got an answer right away. Beautiful place and you can see so many stars. Definitely recommend! When we come back to ride the railroad with our kids, I think we'll be staying here again."
"I had a great experience here! Here is the good: Staff were super friendly and helpful! Lobby was clean, room was ready at check in, room was clean and had updated fridge, stove top, and microwave.
Here is maybe where some improvements could be made: There are no cups, cooking utensils, or silverware. (Now maybe they aren’t branding as an extended stay.) but if you offer a larger fridge than a mini fridge and a stove top to cook with then one would think they might already have a few things there.
There was a little sitting area across the parking lot with umbrellas and it always had a lot of cigarette butts on the ground. Tables not wiped off. Old broken bench. With a little attention to detail it could be a cute place to relax.
There was just a small coffee machine in the lobby. It had cups, sugar, and creamer, but it was just kind of there. It worked and coffee was good! It just seemed a little bland compared to other Choice hotels I have stayed at.
Overall, this is a good place to stay! I would stay here again. Would just spruce some things up a bit if it were me.😊"
"Great place to stay. The hotel has such an interesting history. It has an historic look and feel, but not run down at all. There's even a fun little "museum" in the basement level. Very clean and comfortable. Excellent location too. It's surrounded by shops and places to eat. "
Milam Ridge: Modern Cabin Escape. Hot Tub, Covered Deck, Fire Pit
10/10 Excellent
"This was my first time using VRBO myself and I was deeply impressed. This property is not only accurately reflected in its photos, it is even nicer in person. Little details... the scent of the unit, the sweet sound of rain drops on the roof, the ample firewood, and the detailed organization add so much charm to this property. Everything we needed was there, and labeled for an easy find. While so many rentals are tired and worn, everything about Milam Ridge was fresh, crisp, and cared for. The hot tub was delightful, as was the hammock. The fire pit was beautiful. We cooked a detailed dinner one night and were impressed with the utensils and spices, etc. This does not feel like renting a home... it more feels like when a stylish, curated, and generous friend throws you the keys to their getaway. My infant son, dogs, and wife all found enjoyment, and we plan to return in the future, as well as encourage others (from Baltimore, DC, Pittsburgh, and Philly) do the same. We also enjoyed getting there. The host was very communicative and attentive."
