Old Mill Lodge, Working Ostrich Farm & Restaurant, Oudtshoorn

8/10 Good

"Beautifully kept grounds. The Glamping tent was a perfect balance of camping with the “luxuries “ of staying in a hotel room like a/c , a bath tub and tv although it was only a couple if channels and the wifi was spotty at best. But you are camping in between mountains after all! Staff is helpful and friendly even though we had a problem connecting through the expedia platform they were very accommodating. My tent room was clean and well stocked with coffee, tea, cream and sugar as well as a room spray, soap and insect repellent. Animals are a very nice experience , especially for the younger ones. Lots of activities or spots to relax at. Minutes to the Cango Caves and other local attractions and activities. Would recommend!"

Gumtree Guest House

10/10 Excellent

"Charming rustic setting on a riverfront. Conveniently located just a couple of blocks from shopping and restaurants. Free onsite parking. Friendly, helpful owner/operator. Excellent full breakfast with fresh homemade bread, cooked to order. Many extra touches that made this an excellent choice and made us wish that we could have stayed longer."

88 Baron van Reede Guesthouse

10/10 Excellent

"We found a gem! Lovely couple running a beautiful, super clean and stylish guest house. Safe parking, close to excellent restaurants within walking distance. Do not miss their breakfast. Will definitely book again. Thank you Christo and Magda, we had a wonderful stay at your place."

De Zeekoe Guest Farm

10/10 Excellent

"We had a fantastic stay at De Bergkant in late July. The setting and surrounding view was stunning. We were greeted by Tracey who was manager and head chef. She could not have been more helpful. She provided recommendations on things to do in Prince Albert and places to eat, even made our dinner reservations for us. The rooms and the grounds were clean and comfortable. One of the highlights of our stay was breakfast. Tracey prepared a varied 5 course breakfast each morning that could only be described as incredible. Most ingredients were locally sourced and everything was absolutely delicious. Prince Albert itself had a lot to offer and was well worth the trip. To anyone planning a trip to the area I highly recommend including a stay at De Bergkant."

Mooiplaas Guesthouse

10/10 Excellent

"Andre is a phenomenal manager, and Mooiplaas is our favourite place to stay in Oudtshoorn. All staff are helpful, kind and caring, brilliantly clean and beautiful rooms, highly recommended. Be sure to engage the astrologer Ben if the night sky is clear! Amazing, 5 stars! The Barkers will be back :)"

Buffelsdrift Game Lodge

"Buffelsdrift is an absolute gem. We loved every moment of our stay and wish we could have enjoyed it for a bit longer. The 5 star service - from reception, restaurant (food and service), turn down service and check out - was excellent. We will be making another reservation very soon! Thank you!!"

10/10 Excellent

"From the welcome we received to the farewell the level of personal service we received from the owners Albert and Elsa were unparalleled. Very tastefully decorated, spotless and in a beautiful location overlooking the river. We only stayed one night but will definitely return and stay longer. Loved our stay."

Le Petit Karoo

10/10 Excellent

"Wish we could’ve stayed longer! A unique experience staying in a converted shepherds hut, now the honeymoon suite- beautifully converted with plunge pool & the most stunning 360 degree views- also from the shower! So peaceful & tranquil,The owners of Le Petit Karoo really went the extra mile to make us feel welcome. Beautiful dinner. Amazing value for money & would 100% recommend. Thanks Tracy & Karen, hope to see you again."

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to go to Buffelsdrift?

The best time to go to Buffelsdrift is during the dry season, which runs from May to September.

This period offers clear skies, pleasant daytime temperatures, and significantly less rainfall, making it ideal for outdoor activities like game drives and exploring the Oudtshoorn area. The drier conditions also mean that animals tend to congregate around water sources, making them easier to spot during wildlife viewing excursions.

Couples or solo travellers looking for a relaxed yet adventurous escape will find this time particularly enjoyable. The cooler evenings are superb for sundowners overlooking the waterholes or enjoying a campfire under the stars. With fewer crowds than the peak summer months, you'll often have a more intimate experience with nature.

For families, the shoulder months of April and October can also be a good option. While there might be a slightly higher chance of rain, temperatures are generally mild, and it's still excellent for seeing wildlife.

Can I cancel my hotel reservation on Expedia?

Many Expedia hotel reservations are refundable, provided that you cancel before the hotel's cancellation deadline − this is often within 24 to 48 hours of your scheduled arrival. If you have a non-refundable booking, it might still be possible to receive a refund if you cancel it within 24 hours of booking. Be sure to check your booking confirmation for the exact cancellation policy. For maximum flexibility, use our 'Fully refundable property' filter during your search to find the right Buffelsdrift hotel for you.
