Welcome to Honey Bear Retreat - the ultimate Smoky Mountain oasis for a honeymoon, couples retreat, family getaway, or friends trip. Nestled at 3900ft on 6.5 private acres in the gated community of Alarka Highlands, this luxurious cabin offers breathtaking views and easy access to hiking trails, creeks, and waterfalls. A scenic 25 min drive will get you to downtown Bryson City and Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Our cabin is your tranquil gateway to this enchanting area!

-- Location and Roads --
-Searching for "Honey Bear Retreat" or "Alarka Highlands" in Bryson City, NC on most map apps will get you 99% of the way there and we will provide you with detailed directions upon booking to ensure a seamless arrival.
-AWD or 4WD recommended in the winter due to the chance of snow and ice; we highly advise against motorcycles due to gravel roads.

-- What We Provide --
-Sheets, towels, and bedding, along with additional hot tub towels
-WIFI phone for making calls during your stay
-Hiking sticks
-Starter pack of necessities: toilet paper, paper towels, soap, and dishwasher detergent
-We try to make sure that firewood for the fire pit is supplied but due to the varying delivery schedule we recommend that you bring a bundle of firewood

-- Policies --
To maintain the utmost comfort and safety for all guests, we kindly request that you adhere to the following policies:
-No smoking and no pets allowed, violations will result in a $150/night fine.
-Maximum occupancy: 4 guests, including children (please note the cabin is not baby-proofed)
-Large gatherings, camping, or motorhomes are not permitted.
-While we don't offer refunds solely based on bad weather or forecasts, we do understand unforeseen circumstances and are more than happy to work with you and credit you for a future stay. Please keep in mind that the period from mid-December to early March typically experiences the most snow and ice, and we may request that reschedule your stay to ensure your safety. AWD is necessary during these months.

-For the safety of the cabin and our guests, we have exterior security cameras facing the parking area and the street.
-Indoor fireplaces are turned off from May to September.

Great location and property

We very much enjoyed our stay! The house was clean and had everything needed for our trip. We loved the location since it was far enough way, but still close to town activities within the area. Highly recommend and we would stay again the next time we visit this beautiful area!

Smoky Mountain Paradise

Peaceful Paradise

Honey Bear Retreat is simply beautiful! Amazing views and very peaceful. The cabin is clean, comfortable, well stocked and organized. We definitely plan to return.

Beautiful get-away

This was a clean, well-appointed, wonderful "retreat" home. The views from the porch were spectacular and we spent a lot of time in the early mornings, during afternoon thunder showers, and in the evenings watching glorious sunsets from that deep porch.The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking (we ate all our meals in), the bathrooms were nice, and the beds were very comfortable.It is a bit isolated and off the beaten track, but if that's what you're looking for, the peace and quiet were just what we needed.

A fantastic stay!

The pictures for the listing don’t do it justice. The cabin was spacious, clean and more than what we could’ve imagined. We’re so happy we chose this cabin as our place to stay, we’d recommend it to anyone.

Relaxing Retreat

This was the best mountain stay we have had! The property manager was nothing short of amazing! Always a text away and very accommodating! The cabin was amazing, spacious, clean and had the best views around! The guidebook that is sent to you before your stay has EVERYTHING covered! Sunsets to Remember

We just spent a week at the cabin and loved every minute! The view is spectacular and the inside is as charming and comfortable as the pictures reflect. The drive up can be a bit daunting at first, but after 2 or 3 trips it’s a breeze. Do not hesitate to stay here!

Beautiful views and relaxing trip.

The property was very well kept and maintained. The sunsets are beautiful and the air is so refreshing. It’s a long drive up the mountain and is about 30 min drive to Bryson City, NC. Bryson City is a cute little town. We spent alot of time at the cabin just relaxing and hanging out. The only things that I would recommend is to have some games, cards, and puzzles.

Wonderful

My husband I have been renting cabins in the mountains for over 20 years. This one was one of our all time favorites! Tastefully and comfortably furnished, with a well- equipped kitchen and luxury bedroom/bathroom. The drive up to the cabin was no problem at, and the view and the privacy once you get there, is priceless!

Slice of Paradise

We have stayed in this general area numerous times over the past ten years and Honey Bear Retreat was one of the best. The property was spotless, the host was friendly and accessible, and the views from the deck were incomparably stunning. The drive up was a bit nerve-wracking at first, but after a few trips you start to get used to it. We will be back.

Great views!

Loved the Bryson City house up in the mountains. Incredible view from the deck that we enjoyed our whole stay. Would highly recommend just for that reason, but the whole place was great. My boys loved the pool table and having their own space. It is very secluded so make sure if you need anything from Bryson city get it early. Round trip is over an hour from town. Overall great experience. Thanks

Excellent Cabin

We enjoyed our stay and would definitely rent again. The cabin is the perfect layout for two couples. It had everything we needed. The kitchen was nicely equipped, and the furniture was comfortable. We didnt use the hot tub, but it was cool enough to enjoy the fire pit one night. The sunsets from the deck were amazing. The host had great communication. The drive up the mountain is beautiful, but if you aren’t familiar with the area make sure you drive up the first time in the day light. Directions are very easy to follow.

From the Mountain View to the cabin everything was great. Thank you for the suggestion to arrive in the day time. I don’t believe we would have found it in the dark. Also, leave a light on the porch if you are arriving after dark from the day’s events

Great Family Trip

My husband, adult son and I went for 3 nights. The house was exactly like pictured. The view from the deck was awesome. We enjoyed the hot tub, pool table and putterball. It was secluded but easy to get to Bryson City to ride the train and go see the waterfalls at Deep Creek. Laine was always quick to answer any question that I had. The beds were very comfortable and the house was very clean. It even had a hair dryer that wasn't listed in the amenities. Our family enjoyed spending quality time together at this house.

So relaxing!

Such a relaxing stay! Being at the top of a mountain really forces you to wind down. We truly enjoyed just hanging out around the property and never found ourselves bored during our vacation from our hectic lifestyles. We had everything we could possibly need and any adventures were close by. The hike in the subdivision was super cute too-Little bench swing by a water fountain! Laine was super accommodating, kind and quick to reply. We came in September and easily commuted up and down the mountain with our car even when feeling a little sketchy due to steepness, but I could not imagine doing it in any snowy or icy conditions! Our only complaint was the kitchen island was not super functional, the step trash can didn't work so we left the top off, the grill could use a deep clean due to the char built up it really didn't function well and the dryer needed to be ran on several cycles to get anything fully dry. But those were all so minor compared to how amazing our trip and the cabin was overall!

Breathtaking!

I had wanted to escape to a cabin in the woods for years, but was always so hesitant because you never really know what you’re getting! With Honey Bear Retreat, you get EXACTLY what you think! This is one of the most breathtakingly gorgeous places I’ve been and my boyfriend (who had never been to the mountains before) was literally speechless when we got there! Laine was awesome to communicate with, so responsive to my many silly questions and checked in to make sure everything was as it should be. I’m so glad I paid attention to the suggestion of NOT arriving after dark the first time, as it is a bit of a challenge to get to if you aren’t familiar with the area. After a couple of times, my man was an old pro at navigating the twisty-turny roads. The drive is so beautiful, we didn’t care how long it took to get to town! My only hesitation is leaving such an honest review and NOT being able to book the cabin again when I want! The cabin itself is so comfortable and cozy, we loved sitting on the porch, lounging in the hot tub, playing pool- definitely a dream trip!

Peaceful getaway. Even though the porch faces the road, there were only a few cars throughout our stay that passed the cabin. Great weather and once you get past the nerves of driving up the mountain on the narrow roadways, it’s well worth it.

The view is worth the trip alone. Then add in how nice the cabin is and the fact that there is not one thing you will need that this cabin does not provide. The cabin is secluded in the perfect area and our trip could not have been better. I added photos of the view from the porch .

Really nice, clean property. Beautiful views and lots of locations within a relatively close drive for hiking and enjoying the Smoky Mountains. Very peaceful. The final few miles up the mountain after you leave the main road to get to the property can be a bit tense if you have to pass someone coming down at the same time (pretty narrow with hairpin turns) but it's certainly worth the drive. Owners were very responsive to questions submitted and easy to work with. Great property.

Amazing views

Huge cabin, beautiful views. Love hot tub and pool table. Lots of birds, we saw 3 new ones including a hummingbird. Great comm with host, handy app to download for info including restaurants. Recommend 4 Queens Mexican.
