"My room was ok although the tiles on shower were broken and falling off, but they repaired this during my stay,. Hotel exterior is very run down and reception area unclean and unwelcoming. The long walk to my room was ok however walked through the now non functioning restaurant and entertainment area which smelt of damp and was a dumping ground not too pleasant area, I then went through a door into a corridor with windows to exterior of hotel which had ledges with rubbish and green moss and weeds growing all around, looking a bit derelict from the inside, I got to my room which has state of art entry and looking system which was very good. The view from my bedroom window was one of dereliction broken drain pipes weeds in gutters and general lack of care of the property, with dumped mattresses and rubbish. Window has mould round it and the glass had blown showing condensation over it.. room was ok so to speak of but really not the hotel that I thought I has booked,. Heard other guests complaining about state of the hotel, The whole place was very run down not a place i will ever return to and if you stay in hotels often id advise others not to also.. am surprised hotels.com have this on their listing's. Not up to their usual standard"

"Just got back from a couple of days spent at South sands . The hotel staff were very friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. Our bedroom was spacious, clean and comfortable. Had a meal in the restaurant and also in the bar area. Food was delicious. Also breakfast was very tasty each morning, with a very good selection each day. Location was great for what we wanted. There was an option of a ferry from the hotel into Salcombe and return whilst we were staying. There is a 40 minute walk into Salcombe, which is hilly in places, but the ferry is an option if you prefer. Would definitely like to return one day soon."

"Fabulous place to stay with very friendly and attentive staff. Great food, beautiful location and it was a very relaxing way to spend my birthday! The hotel treated me well and housekeeping put balloons and a card with fudge in our room, and I even got a lunchtime mini dessert platter. Nice touch! Loads of parking, great shower and if you love walking it’s in an ideal location. I can’t recommend this place enough! "

"Clean room and well situated on the sea front"

"The public rooms were in good condition but rather dated, reflecting the hotel's ostentatious history. The corridors and fire doors to the rooms were in poor condition, some damaged paint, wallpaper and carpet. The room was small and dated but clean with plenty of storage. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the breakfast offered a great choice. Whilst it is becoming increasingly common, as a hotel guest, I don't like paying extra to park my car."

"We needed a quick 'pick you up break' this ticked (and exceeded all the boxes) We loved our stay and we were made very welcome. We will definitely return as soon as we can!!"
