Spend the day exploring this picturesque riverfront scene and marvel at the myriad of attractions the parklands has to offer.For naval-history enthusiasts, begin your adventure at the Queensland Maritime Museum, whose dry dock is home to a WWII Royal Australian Navy frigate. On display here you’ll also find a vast collection of maritime artefacts, books and photographs.Stroll through the shaded, scenic walkway provided by the Arbour, a stunning piece of architecture that weaves through the centre of the parklands. This impressive feature consists of 443 curling columns of steel with pink bougainvillea flowers delicately draped around each one, creating a vibrant canopy.If the kids are looking for something more active, head towards Streets Beach at the centre of the parklands. Lounge on the glittering-white sand of this man-made beach while the kids splash around in the calm, ocean-blue waters. Don’t worry about lugging bags around with you – there are plenty of lockers available.If you fancy a bite to eat afterwards, why not go native in an Aussie pub and try out the local grub? There are also plenty of cafés and restaurants that are sure to satisfy even the fussiest pallets.For information about what’s on, pay a visit to the tourist office on Stanley Street Plaza. From street artists and bustling markets to free sport events and festivals, there’s something for the whole family to enjoy.Take a ride on the Wheel of Brisbane and uncover the beauty of the city from new, dizzying heights. For an equally magnificent scene, visit the nearby Nepalese Pagoda, a majestic monument surrounded by tropical landscaping.Southbank Parklands is best reached via public transport. Take the train to South Bank Station at the east end, or arrive by bus to the Cultural Centre bus station at the west end. Parking is available on site, but be prepared to pay!
