About this property
New River Retreat - Walk down to the river, fire pit!
This beautiful cabin above the New River and just north of Boone is a peaceful and charming getaway. The cabin has hardwood floors throughout and little touches to help you relax and retreat during your stay. The cabin has a beautiful kitchen with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and bar seats. There is a dining room table next to the kitchen with room for six. The living room features a comfortable couch and loveseat and a wood-burning fireplace. Just off the living room, you can access the upper deck, which has a bistro table and two chairs to overlook the valley, a grill, and two Adirondack chairs. The master bedroom on the first level of the cabin has a King bed, a TV, and access to the bathroom which can also be accessed through the hallway.
Upstairs is a loft area with large triangular windows, comfy floor cushions, a Papasan chair, soft lighting, and a small floor tea table. The loft is an excellent place to sit and have morning coffee, evening wine, or practice meditation while viewing the mountain scenery through the spectacular triangular windows. There are two bedrooms on this level. One has a queen bed, and the other has two twin beds. There is also a full bath on this floor.
There is a fire pit in the yard for an evening marshmallow roast in the yard. On the lower deck, there are two chairs to enjoy the view from there. You can walk down to the New River, one of the oldest rivers in the world and the only river in North America that flows South to North. It is a .8 mile walk down the hill. You can also access the New River by car at the Big Hill Community Park just a short drive from the cabin. The New River is perfect for tubing, rafting, fishing, and more. Some outfitters host rafting and tubing trips and guided fishing trips on the New River (as well as the other nearby rivers). This is a special treat in the spring, summer, and fall!
The cabin is wheelchair accessible, and there is a small portable ramp in the master bedroom bathroom closet to access the upper deck from the living room.
New River Retreat is located just fifteen minutes north of Boone, so all that the High Country has to offer is just a short drive away. You're sure to love this relaxing haven!

Lots of steps for entry. Ramp area a bit overgrown. Turn out of driveway a bit challenging to see and driveway was very steep. Arrived to find door code did not work, a quick call got a new code. We were already in as another door was open.
Kitchen wonderful. Bed was comfortable and plenty of covers available. There were no directions for TV in living room. Bedroom TV did not seem to work . The bathroom had everything we needed. Lightning a bit harsh. Hot tub wonderful with great views.
We wanted to open all windows as it was absolutely picture perfect weather, many did not open.
Would stay there again as the neighborhood is simply the best. Great walking area.
About everything you would want for a weekend in Boone.
The cabin was nice. It worked well for a weekend get away. It is close enough to Boone, but still felt somewhat secluded and had a great view. The living space was a little tight with 6 adults. The hot tub was nice but had to walk around the house in the cold to get to it. Overall, pretty good for the price.
Tropical storm Nicole pummeled the area with rain and we experienced multiple leaks but the management team was responsive with additional towels and buckets. Communication was excellent both before and during our stay.

The property was beautiful, however the cleanliness of the place was not up to expectations. It looked like the housekeeper may have wiped down the countertops and the house had been vacant for a month or so. The property was beautiful but could have been much more maintained.
While we did enjoy our stay we were a little disappointed in the comfort of the home. The couches need replacing as well as the mattresses on the beds. The back yard was really too steep to enjoy the fire pit. We experienced a major leak on the backside of the house during a rainy/windy day and although the maintenance help did arrive there really wasn't anything that could be done while we were there. The fireplace was wonderful and the views were fantastic. With a little updating, we would consider staying there again.

Great view, beds comfy, prompt response from managing agency
The cabin has a ramp for disable persons, however, it is covered with a thick coat of mildew which when wet is very slippery and a hazard to walk on. The cabin was not cleaned well by the cleaning person and there were crackers in between the cushions of the sofas. Firewood was very limited and the agency was prompt to respond sending someone to provide wood. Not completely seasoned and thus hard to burn. Ask if they have provided a tarp to cover the wood, otherwise it will get wet and you will not be able to light. The windows on the loft provide a magnificent view which wa obliterated by the lack of cleaning. Beds were comfortable and they have auxiliary heaters in the event the HAC is not adequate. Kitchen well stocked with dinnerware. Skillets were damaged from previous guests, it appears they used them in the firepit or the BBQ. These issues were forwarded to agency and I suspect they will correct these deficiencies. We tried to clean up, however, broom handles were broken and I had to bend over. Never used the hot tub because it is on the lower level and it is far from the entrance of the cabin. We never used it.
What a great place! We enjoyed our stay at New River Retreat! We went for Memorial Day weekend. The neighborhood was so peaceful and quiet. The house had everything my family of four needed. Beautiful views, clean, comfortable and really great amenities. The kitchen even had everything you needed to cook, and the grill was fantastic! We will definitely be back!
We loved our stay except for a few things! The mattress on the loft pull-out bed is broken and couldn't be used. The loveseat is fine but the couch was like sitting on a water bed! TV instructions would be helpful!

Great location needs TLC
When we arrived the property wasn’t as clean as we would have liked. There were beer bottles and trash in the driveway as well as food remains in the sink from previous guests. Half of the stovetop didn’t work. The location is great beautiful views. The house is in need of updates but does the trick for a short trip.
My husband and I have been wanting a relaxing getaway all year but with Covid it was nearly impossible. The house was very clean, had all the supplies, and the view was amazing! Everything was great EXCEPT the mattresses. I read a review from 2017 where someone mentioned this but figured they had been replaced since then. They were clean just too soft for our liking. Anyway, I would probably stay here again as it was very peaceful and quiet. We enjoyed it very much!
Amazing experience for our group of friends (4 total and 2 doggos). PLENTY of space for 8+. Extremely slanted yard was the only thing we could pick at really. 5 Stars! Will stay with Blue Ridge Rentals again when we return next year.
The property was clean, and only a short distance from the New River. The check-in process was the most effortless check-in I have ever had. Overall I enjoyed my stay
This property was beautiful views were outstanding private and quiet! House was clean spacious and comfortable. Hot tube was very relaxing! The slow to the fire pit was extremely steep and Unenjoyable because of the steepness of the hill. But I would recommend this cabin for anyone visiting the Boone area.

Family getaway
Overall had a good time at the cabin
Some of the metal outside chairs are rusted out and should be changed
Fire pit is not very accessible to older adults due to the terrain
Other than that was very enjoyable

Adequate
The property was difficult to find as the address was not visable at all. axzqThe out door stairs were steep and uneven, tho the ramp was helpful. Getting into and out of the driveway which was steep was a challenge. The cabin was clean and well equipped. The bathtubs were very slippery.
