Cozy Chipmunk House -- Perfect!
I took my pup to Big Bear for Thanksgiving Week and the plan was to lock away in a cabin and craft, and watch movies, and bake, and cook a delightful Thanksgiving mini-feast. And Chipmunk House delivered!
I had originally booked a different, smaller cabin for a trip in April, but due to family issues, I had to reschedule. Several weeks before my Thanksgiving trip, I was notified that my original cabin was coming off the market for rental and was given three options to switch to for no charge. While Chipmunk House didn't quite meet my original vision for a mountain cabin getaway, I really appreciated some of the extra amenities- a larger bed, a dishwasher in the kitchen, a large fenced-in yard. When we arrived, I immediately fell in love with the place!
This little home is absolutely perfect for anyone wanting to just have a cozy stay in a comfy cabin with a good-sized kitchen, and two great beds and baths. The backyard also had a huge seating area, with multiple grills (both gas and charcoal), and the front porch had some nice seating and a fire pit as well.
The only tip I would offer to the owner/company would be to add a cookie sheet to the supplies available for cooking in the kitchen. Everything else was more than enough for the culinary adventures I had throughout the week. The staff at BBCC were fantastic, very accommodating, and very responsive to my communications. While I am torn between renting Chipmunk House in the future or finding another gem of a cabin for my next stay, I will definitely rent through Big Bear Cool Cabins again. Thanks, y'all!
There are definite pros and cons to this place. When I booked there were only super positive reviews and I would’ve appreciated having more info which is why I’m sharing some of that here. I’ll start with the pros: the location is stellar — being walking distance to the lake is amazing. The yard is big and fully fenced which is great for dogs. The kitchen has all the supplies you need. There is also a great mud room. Now for the cons. There is heat in one bedroom and the living room. Unless you have all the doors open during the night, one of the bedrooms does not get heat. Had to ask for a space heater after the first night. The mattresses in both bedrooms are old and lumpy and tough to sleep on. One of the bathrooms is pretty outdated compared to the other.
Overall nice s.shore location.1.9 mile walk to village/ easy access to trails, on both south and north shores.Fully fenced yard which is a bonus for anyone with pets/ small children. Nice 1story home 1 step to enter great if carrying stuff. Well stocked with most essentials in kitchen/bathrooms. We would recommend this home.
