About this property
Huron Horizons - Magical Sunsets & Four Seasons of Recreational Opportunities!
Magnificent sunsets over Lake Superior's Big Bay.
Our cabin is best suited for winter guests who enjoy a quieter stay, such as cross-country skiers, snowshoers, hikers, or those simply looking to relax in a cozy setting. We maintain a plowed circular drive for easy access.
Please note that WE CANNOT ACCOMMODATE SNOWMOBILERS OR SNOWMOBILES at the property. This policy helps preserve a peaceful environment for our year-round neighbors and reflects the fact that the cabin is small and not designed to accommodate the storage and drying needs associated with snowmobiling gear.
For the protection of our cleaning personnel and guests we build in a one-day cushion between check-ins.
Beautiful, two-bedroom cabin on Lighthouse Road in Big Bay, MI. As you walk in the front door you are greeted with spectacular views of Lake Superior through the living room bow window. Other custom windows bring in light and nature everywhere you turn. A custom-built circular staircase leads you up to the master bedroom with a king-size bed. You'll get spectacular views of Lake Superior from the Master Bedroom which includes a private bath and its own private deck. The downstairs bedroom has a full/full bunk bed. The upstairs loft provides additional views of Lake Superior, a cozy reading area, and with a queen sleeper sofa can double as a third bedroom. The cabin is well suited for four adults and two children.
The cabin has a well-equipped modern kitchen with a gas stove, a dining room table with seating for six, and two full baths. The downstairs bath has a tub/shower with tile surround and the Master Bedroom bath has a shower with tile surround. The huge wrap-around deck includes a screened-in gazebo to keep you away from the bugs, a gas grill, and a food prep area. The cabin also has a newly installed two-zone air conditioning system, with an outdoor compressor, to keep you comfortable during hot/humid weather.
“The Huron Mountains encompass the most wild and rugged territory in Michigan. It is a region of low, yet surprisingly rugged mountains, swamps, lakes, and high plateaus.” (Huron Mountains Summit Post) The Huron Mountain Range runs from the Marquette area north and west through Big Bay and beyond, and along with the sandstone cliffs of Salmon Trout Point provides a distant backdrop for sunsets over the bay. The large lot, 225’ of Lake Superior shoreline, gives you a wide-angle view of the bay to the west. Lake Superior has been telling her serene and rugged story for thousands of years, and each daily chapter (weather permitting) ends with a sunset over Salmon Trout Point. Every sunset you celebrate from Huron Horizons is one that has never been seen before and will never be seen again. Yes, they are that special.
Make sure you set aside some time to explore Marquette during your stay. Marquette "Queen City of the North" is about a 30-minute, beautiful drive from Big Bay, and is perhaps the most picturesque city in Michigan. We're a little biased but we believe that to be true. Marquette has many wonderful shops and restaurants (our favorite being The Vierling which overlooks the Ore Dock and Marquette's beautiful Lower Harbor). While in Marquette we would also highly recommend visiting Presque Isle and allowing enough time to hike and explore this wonderful peninsula. The Marquette area provides tons of outdoor opportunities including year-round world-class mountain bike and cross-country ski trails.

The property is absolutely adorable and the views of Lake Superior are spectacular. The house was perfect for our stay. The kitchen was well equipped and we had plenty of room for us and four adult children. Thanks Huron Horizon for a great vacation!
We had a great time! The house was great! The view was amazing! We've been coming to the UP for 9 years now and this is the best place we've stayed. We had a blast!!
This is our most favorite house that we have ever rented - and we have rented a lot of homes. Beautiful location, beautiful inside and out, beautiful sunsets directly across the bay. We highly recommend it!!
We loved the house and the location was absolutely beautiful. The house was a fun design with huge windows to view Lake Superior. Every night we watched the colorful sunsets. A relaxing spot.
The home was better than shown and listed. Warm and comfortable. The views of Lake Superior are outstanding. So quiet and peaceful. The caretakers are responsive and helpful. Wifi service was great, even during a blizzard.
The home was beautiful, clean, well stocked. The location is serene and the views are stunning. We cannot wait to return for more rock hunt hikes, rock hunting, beaches and waterfalls!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Huron Horizons. If you're looking for a peaceful, private escape with woods and water, this is the place! The property location was perfect and the property itself was spotless and had everything you could possible need for your stay. Just bring your groceries and you're all set! Nancy was great to work with for any questions that we had. Would definitely recommend a stay here!!
This place had it all. Quiet and secluded in a beautiful serene setting. The house was absolute beautiful and they thought of everything! They were very responsive and check in/out was very easy.
We will be retuning for sure!!
This place has everything you need. Kitchen full of dishes,p cups glasses, pots and pans plus every gadget imaginable. Extremely clean a0nd well furnished. Best of all...fantastic sunset views. I'll be back.
This home is so cozy with amazing views. We were able to see every sunset at the cabin. The home is much nicer than the photos on this website. I love staying at places where I cannot get cell reception. It forces me to get away from my work. This is a sacred space and I can’t wait to be back!
Our stay at Huron Horizons was fantastic! We spent the first week in November there, and we had a wonderful relaxing time. The cabin itself is beautiful, and the kitchen had nice pots and pans, cutlery, dishes, and appliances. They had every kitchen gadget we looked for, which was great. Also, this was the cleanest place we’ve ever rented. The windows have spectacular views of the lake, and the furniture was comfortable. We loved watching the sunsets over the lake from the chairs in front of the bay window in the living room. The fire pit area was very nice, and it’s just a few feet to walk to the shore from the back door of the cabin. We spent the whole week listening to the waves and star gazing at night, and we saw the Northern Lights on our last night there! This is easily the best place that we’ve ever rented.
This house was a great place to stay in Big Bay, MI. We had visited the area a few years back and decided to return for some much needed R & R. The rooms and beds are comfortable, the furniture is newer and comfortable, and the bathrooms were immaculate. Their are houses on both sides of this property but the woods keep it very private and the waterfront is gorgeous. There's a nice area outside with a fire pit which we enjoyed. We made a trip to Marquette and spent the day sightseeing and eating at a wonderful restaurant there. If you don't want to travel, there's Thunderbay Inn, about a 5 minute drive.
The communication was good about access to the house and knowing there was someone we could call if we had questions or needed something.
We'll be back!
We have always spent a week in this Beautiful,Perfect house ! But this year we spent two amazing weeks here ! We saw the Northern Lights three times the first week!
We thought two weeks was going to be easier to leave but it was harder!
We finally met Nancy and she goes above and beyond! The people in the neighborhood were so nice!
We saw a loon, lots of deer ,chipmunks and a little red squirrel . We hiked and relaxed and decompressed from our stressful year! Thank you Jim and Ginger and Don and Nancy! You are the best!
I so hope we get to return next fall !
My family uses Vrbo extensively including multiple trips to Michigan and this now our second trip to the U.P. although the first to this area and property. This is the first time a property has felt like coming home. You can tell this isn’t a developer’s property but is instead the loved home of a family that allows others to use it when they’re not. A gas range and other quality appliances were a welcome surprise. We are all cooks at home and there’s no McDonald’s up here so a proper kitchen was great to have. Everything was just comfortable and welcoming and the views were excellent. We just appreciate the time so much.
What an amazing property!! We visited at the beginning of April 2024. While most attractions we still closed for the season we were able to enjoy a couple of waterfalls, Marquette, and Houghton. Then the blizzard warning hit…so we were locked in for a day. Ummm ok- with the view from the living room I was happy to watch the storm roll in! And the sunsets….Shut Up! Amazing!
The hosts were so kind and thoughtful checking on us and making sure we had everything we needed. My husband is already looking at our calendar to decide when we can go back! ♥️
It’s a beautiful and cozy home to stay in. The sunset views and waterfront view was absolutely gorgeous. The ONLY thing this place is missing is a hot tub- that would have made my rating a 5/5. Host was very quick to respond when we had a problem with empty propane on the grill and made it right! We did have to supply lighter fluid as well as paper towels. It would have been nice for there to be stocked paper towels and toilet paper. We had a total of 3 adults and 2 children so by the end of the week we were almost completely out. The mosquitoes were really bad in the house but we made the best of it!
We can't say enough about this rental. This is our second time staying and it was even better than the last. The house was incredibly clean when we got there and has all the amenities you would ever need. The property managers are friendly and available if needed. Our favorite part of the house is the view on the bay. Being able to wake up to the view, end our evenings with the beautiful sunsets, and go to bed with the waves crashing is enough to keep calling us back. My youngest son and I were able to watch an eagle hunt for fish and bring it back to the nest while we were paddle boarding one morning. We just can't say enough about this beautiful property. We understand why it is not, but if this was a dog friendly rental we may be forced to spend our whole summer UP there.
