Which we later found out is the same story they have been telling guests for months. The very small room was embarrassing. A hole in the wall, electric socket not working, disgusting unwashed curtains, peeling paint everywhere, cracked sink, mould all over the shower head, broken wardrobe. The only plus was the bed...

"A little gem nestled in the countryside with glorious views. Lucy’s apartment was spotlessly clean and tidy, comfortable and very well equipped. Lucy is an absolute hoot- very welcoming and full of suggestions of things to see or do. Perfect for dogs too, with a lovely enclosed garden and lots of walks from the location detailed in the information folder. Lots of lovely pubs nearby too including a local just across the way. We would definitely come back."

"Check in was easy and location was good, thise are the only positives. The property is extremely dated and dirty. The furnishings in communal areas were torn, threadbare, stained, dirty and smelly. The carpets were dirty, covered in dog and human hair. There was mould above the shower and dirt and mould under the sink. The areas around the toilets were soiled with rusted old urine splashes. The Chatsworth Hotel

8/10 Good

"A lovely location on the seafront, we booked a seaview room, which overlooked the beach and you could see the pier. The room was very spacious and well furnished including a large bathroom. The staff were very friendly and pleasant. The lift in the reception area is very vintage and a lovely experience when using it. We didn’t sample the breakfast menu, as we felt £20 per person for a 4 night stay worked out too expensive. It would be good to see alternative options for a smaller breakfast e.g. coffee and toast/pastry for a set price. However we would still recommend staying at this lovely hotel, and hope to revisit again when in the area."

The Burlington Hotel

"The Burlington is a nice, friendly, old-fashioned hotel. It's right on the seafront close to the pier and the town centre, and it has it's own car park at the back. We only stayed one night but we're able to park our car there before check in and keep it there till 3pm on check out day, which was helpful. The food was fine (apart from the absence of mushrooms on the breakfast menu) - good portions at dinner and help yourself at breakfast. Our room had been modernised and was very nice - it was like a Premier Inn room but with a softer mattress. We were on the third floor and it's a good thing we didn't mind the stairs because they only had one small lift working, which for a place of this size was inadequate really. The hotel needs some refurbishment in places; this has clearly been happening gradually but it's a big task. The public rooms are spacious and there are two bars plus a dancefloor, which was used when we were there. They had a singer who was pretty good and appreciated by the guests, some of whom were on a coach trip. The staff were friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our stay despite being kept awake by night roadworks outside - not their fault and just bad luck for guests that night. I'd be happy to stay there again but would avoid high summer as there was no air conditioning."
