The Top of the Town - Large comfortable dog friendly home. Fish, Hike, Float!

The best view in town! The property is at the top of a hill and has a great view of downtown Historic Hinton and the New River, from the front porch. It is spacious, airy and bright. A 101 year old Victorian that is as quirky as it is charming. Large kitchen and dining room for those of you who want to eat in. Large open living room with smart TV for relaxing and taking in a movie, or spreading out for your morning yoga sesh! Namaste! 🧘🏼

We offer three bedrooms, each with a comfortable queen bed and window a/c unit for a comfortable night’s sleep(in season). But we can also accommodate a 7th person if they don’t mind sleeping on our couch (pillow, linens provided. Not a pull out couch). Two full baths and washer and dryer available. We are happy to host your dog, for a fee, and have many supplies to meet their needs, as well as a fenced-in backyard for easy in and out. We are not accepting multiple dogs or any other animals at this time.

The property is the 2nd to last house on a dead end street. We are at the top of a steep hill with forest behind us. It is a nice private location, with a fantastic view from the front porch. The driveway can accommodate 2 cars, 3 if you’re “creative”. Backing out can be a challenge, backing in is easier for some.

We are located 11 miles from the New River Gorge National Park Welcome Center, in Sandstone. We are 7 miles from Sandstone Falls, minutes to Bluestone Lake and Bluestone State Park and about 20 minutes to Pipestem State Park. The Greenbrier, Bluestone and New Rivers all converge just minutes from the house for some first class fishing. One day fishing licenses can be purchased online at the WV DNR website or at WaterDawg Outdoors which is less than 2 miles from the house.
Other attractions:
We are 32 mins from Grandview
We are 63 mins from the Canyon Rim Visitor center and the NRG Bridge and Bridge walk.
66 mins to the Endless Wall Trail
75 mins to the Gauley River put-in
75 mins from Hawk’s Nest State Park

Golfers! There are 7 great courses all within an hour of the house; Pipestem at the state park, Black Knight in Beckley, Elks in Lewisburg, Woodhaven and Glade Springs in Daniels, Fountain Springs in Peterstown and the PGA course at the Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulphur Springs.
For winter visitors we are also just over 15 miles from Winterplace if skiing, snowboarding and tubing are more your speed! Lewisburg and the WV State fairgrounds are about a 40 minute drive. There are also things to do right in Hinton!

As per VRBO rules we are required to disclose the use of an outdoor security camera at the property. We have one device in the upper corner of our porch that surveils the driveway, steps and entrance to the home. For our peace of mind, and yours!

Thanks for checking out Top of the Town. Book with us and you won’t be disappointed.

Hilltop on steroids
Exactly what we were looking for from a size perspective. The dogs loved all the stray cats in the neighborhood. The area was a little rough and depressed, but we had a great time.

We all — including the dog — loved our stay!
Top of the Town in Hinton was a wonderful, dog-friendly place to stay! We were only there for a few days, but we felt very much at home, and could easily envision making it home base for a longer visit to the area. The 102-year-old house is full of character and was exactly as advertised, with a wonderful kitchen full of all you need to cook some great dinners. We had a chance to explore a bit of Hinton (there are great views of the town from the front bedroom upstairs), and it was an easy drive to the New River Gorge National Park and several other local state parks. Our dog loved going up and down the stairs and the neighborhood hills, and would have loved to chase the deer we spotted in the neighborhood. Checking in and out was easy, and our hosts left a binder with tips, house rules, and suggestions for shopping, dining, and more. Eat at Kirk’s! We did…twice. :)

Clean, comfortable older home.
This house was so clean-and the beds and couches were all quite comfortable. One perk of the home was the fact that they had charging areas all over the home to plug into an outlet or a usb to charge our devices. That was quite nice. Also, the bathrooms were very well stocked with soft towels and washcloths. The road to the driveway was steep and coming from the street gps had us take to the homes street, we had a sharp turn where our tailgate hitch did drag a a bit. We found it easier to come in from a different angle to the steep portion and then, no dragging! Also, I found it easiest with just one vehicle there, to pull into the driveway and do a multi point turn to turn around in the driveway. It was a unique, older, settled home that we enjoyed staying in.

West Virginia experience
We really enjoyed our stay. The house was great. It could use a little polish but the view makes up for it. One of the mattresses was super firm which we didn’t like but the other 2 were fine. The house is at the top of the hill so you have some steep climbs to get to the house and in to the parking spots. The front porch overlooks the little town with wooded mountains all around. It’s a quiet little place amidst the town with a couple cute restaurants in the town below.
