Easy walk into town.
We could choose breakfast in our room or in the dining room. The choices were plentiful. The crème brûlée porridge was excellent.

As we have a dog it was convenient to dine with the dog.The decor and the antique furniture and pictures added to the period atmosphere. The meals were very good and the staff helpful. The surrounding grass was neat but the small garden could do with weeding.

Our room needs some TLC
The staff, the building and the food were all excellent, probably the best steak I've ever eaten.However the room was not as good as it should have been. The lock on the door was faulty; the shower either didn't work or was difficult to control; at 8pm on our first night there was not enough hot water for a bath; one of the main light switches did not work

A beautiful period House in a tranquil setting. Large rooms that they have given a great deal of attention to detail. Friendly staff not intrusive at all. Wonderful hotel for a getaway.

Nice stay
Nice old house with lots of period features, some might say quirky. Staff all very nice and helpful. Room was in attic with separate bathroom, which proved to be a bit awkward to use. Could have been clearer in room description. Also had a table set in room for breakfast, perhaps a leftover from covid restrictions. Would have much preferred soft seating as shown in room description online. Breakfast food was nice , well cooked and in good quantity.

This was such a quaint place only 3 minutes from Portsoy and the north coast. It had such a beautiful 18th century antique design in the lobby, dining area, and lounge, and our room was a mixture of antiquity and contemporary. We also ate dinner there as well which was magnificent in every way. The staff could not have been any nicer and more accommodating to us. Would strongly recommend to anyone visiting!

Durn House is exceptional. It feels like a rare treasure, hidden amongst the leafy streets of Portsoy. The exterior greets you and you know this place is special. Chole was a brilliant host, greeting us with warmth and humour. Our room was beyond incredible, all the little touches and all the grandeur. Dinner was delicious, beautifully cooked and wow! Breakfast of Queens' in our splendid room. Durn House is I think the best place I have ever stayed, and I hope we can return soon, maybe for longer. Our parents have been raved at about it and are keen to visit too. Exceptional.

Fantastic experience
This is our second time visiting Durn House and will not be the last. The hospitality is outstanding and the hotel itself cozy and beautifully appointed. The food is simply amazing and easily the best restaurant for 50 miles in any direction. Honestly I’m shocked that everyone isn’t raving about this place constantly as it really is exceptional in every way. Do yourself a favour and book in for a fabulous night you won’t be disappointed!

Very good potential but disappointing
This is a lovely building the greeting was really good- staff were excellent throughout. The room we had was very large and spacious but would have benefited from some heating being on as it was quite cold when we arrived and very cold by bedtime. The bathroom was also large but the over-bath shower was very dated and should be replaced. This does not seem to be too high an expectation giving the cost of a one night stay. Dinner was not as good as expected- menu seems good but food presented just didn’t quite meet expectations. Maybe trying too hard, doing something a little simpler better would be better. We pre-ordered breakfast on arrival and it was delivered to our room at the agreed time- but was a little meagre- one slice of toast each and small serving of other items. With some minor changes this could be an excellent hotel.

Very charming, homey, and historical. We paid extra and got the "bridal suite" with the 4 poster bed. It had a HUGE bathroom. Not sure it was worth the extra cost but very nice.

A wonderful find
A wonderful find. Hospitality was superb and the food (dinner and breakfast) were of a very high standard. Very tasty and excellently presented. Durn House is tastefully decorated and our room was extremely well appointed. Only slight disappointment was the shower which was a little temperamental. That said we would have been happy to stay for longer as we were so well looked after.

Fabulous!
This is a lovely stay but the staff & food are what truly make it! They could not do enough for us, friendly, nothing a problem, kick back relax policy but delivered with professionalism. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. We will definitely return!

The room was very comfortable and clean. Some facilities weren't avaliable because of Covid 19 which was disappointing but understandable. We had a private shower room which was along at the end of a hall.

This is the first hotel we've been in where porridge is offered in place of a cooked breakfast. Every where else has porridge as a choice with the cereals and fruit. BBC2 requires retuning. Rooms are advertised as soundproofed but this is definitely not the case. I could hear people talking at 1am in the morning. It is in a peaceful location within easy reach of Duff House and the Macduff marine aquarium.

Lovely old charming house, although I felt as if we were being judged as soon as we arrived. Checking in was ok but nothing special for a 4*, breakfast was lovely, breakfast staff excellent. Id definitely not recommend to vist with girlfriends for a night away but I could see the charm for couples.

The check in was a bit confusing as there is no front desk and one feels somewhat lost upon entering the building. Room was clean. The shower was an experience - with showerhead out of reach I got both blasted with icy water followed by scolding hot. I guess some people pay extra for such treatment ;D Breafast was excellent and staff friendly.
