The Royal Highland Hotel

8/10 Good

"Old-World Highland Charm in a Fantastic Location The Royal Highland Hotel is superbly located literally steps from Inverness railway station, making it extremely convenient when travelling with luggage. The moment you enter, the magnificent staircase catches your attention, and the lobby has a cosy, old-world British charm that makes you feel as though you've stepped back in time. Check-in was simple and our third-floor room was spacious and comfortable, with a sitting area, writing desk, TV and kettle with tea, coffee, milk and sugar. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was a good size, with excellent shower pressure and a lovely heated towel rail. There is no refrigerator or apparent air-conditioning, although opening the window kept us comfortable. The old wooden floors also creak considerably. Our only maintenance issue was a slow-draining shower, which I mentioned at checkout. The location is excellent not only for the station but also for exploring Inverness. Restaurants, shops, the River Ness and Inverness Castle area are all within an easy walk. This is an older hotel, and that comes with a few quirks, but its history, character and location make it memorable. We would certainly consider staying again. Rating: 7.5–8/10."

"What a great hotel! The whole staff team were fantastic- everyone was super friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The hotel is also particularly good for visitors with access needs - we stayed in an accessible room which was huge, the location is close to the train station & the bus station (for the sight seeing bus) as well as lots of restaurants and bars. We'd definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone coming up to Inverness."

"The rooms were ok, no plug points or USB options. We didnt have a uk plug but none in the reception to borrow. We were given really old type of rooms but I think there are better ones there. View was great from kids upper floor but our river view room ( premium paid) was nothing to write about. Breakfast was fine, again nothing to write about. Location is really good but could have booked elsewhere, lot of places near by. We got parking across the street for free but front desk didnt offer theirs"

Craigmonie Hotel Inverness by Compass Hospitality

"This hotel is lovely. We stayed as a family of 3 and our room was big and spacious. The room was extremely clean and appeared to have been modernised recently. The shower was excellent! Although the curtains in the room were fine, they were not attached properly to the curtain rings and pole therefore looked a bit messy, however, not a huge issue for us. Very friendly staff for the most part, although one of the ladies that served us at the bar wasn't very sociable and didn't seem to have much patience. Bar area was lovely, however, there were a couple of guests who were sat outside and kept coming in and out thought the fire escape door, leaving it ajar so they could do this. We were therefore not able to enjoy a relaxing drink as the midgies kept flying in. The pool also isn't great and the steam room wasn't working during our stay. Apart from that, the hotel is lovely and we would definitely stay here again. Cosy, clean, and our evening meal in the restaurant was top notch 👌 great breakfast too."
