Cozy & homey & an excellent value

We had an extremely pleasant stay at The Butler cottage. It's so cozy & comfy that we had a hard time pulling ourselves away from the couch to go out sightseeing. The owner was very quick to communicate and great to work with. The Butler is an EXCELLENT value in this area where rentals are priced sky high. The close proximity to I-26 makes it quick and easy to get to Asheville.

Love "The Butler"

My wife an I enjoyed 4 nights at "The Butler". A nice home to stay at when in the mountains. Would never want to stay at a hotel again with cabins like this available. Cabin was clean and comfortable with everything to enjoy a quiet visit. Love the history of the Ebson family ownership. Cabin was close to everything. We really enjoyed being close to Henderson downtown with a lot of great places to dine and shop. Would really enjoy visiting again.

SIMPLE, OLD, SMALL AND CLEAN

The place is just as the pictures look. Its simple and dated but very clean and had all the necessities needed. The owner is very nice and quick to respond. We had 3 adults staying in the house and it was room enough for us all. It was cold when night came and we turned on the gas fireplace but I cant stand the smell that the gas was putting out so we had to turn it off and just use the portable heaters and they would turn off after a certain amount of time but we still managed to stay cozy despite the heating but this probably would be a problem during the winter time only because I cant tolerate the gas heating. The bed in master bedroom was not comfortable so I slept on the couch in the living room. I did not realize also that the house was so close to the interstate, you will hear the big trucks and all traffic traveling ALL the time, including night time. We were booked to stay until Sunday but chose to leave on Saturday morning. This place will probably be fine for others but not for me. It was a cheap price especially during the fall peak season and this was why I booked it. You get what you pay for

A place to stay

The check in process was great and Jeanette responded quickly when I reached out. The home was cozy but it had no air flow so it was very stuffy and messed with our allergies. It did not have a dishwasher as listed, I had to pick spiders out of the water drum before I used it cause it is outside. The game room is not really kid friendly, you have to go outside to access it and there were mean looking dogs roaming about during our stay. The cleanliness of the home was not good.

Great History

Very cool old house. Is a bit of an odd layout for a group but perfect for us. Great gameroom downstairs, cozy fireplace and if the weather is nice the front porch rockers are a great way to relax. We were here a month and would gladly stay again.

Christmas vacation

We were able to book this after just a couple of weeks before Christmas that we would have time to do something. We come to this area of NC a lot, and it was close to the hiking we love to do, the towns of Hendersonville & Brevard that we like to walk around, and not too far of a drive to Beech Mountain, where we did a day of skiing. The cabin has a lot of character and was tight for the five of us (three older teens), but that also made it more memorable too. Communication with owner was great.

Family thanksgiving trip

My family and I had a wonderful time in this charming getaway. The location is perfect—we went into Asheville to see the Biltmore, went hiking around the area and had some great family time. The kitchen worked for our family thanksgiving meal and the family room was comfortable for a movie night and game night. The bunk beds were a little too low for two 18+ but the pull out couch worked well to fit our family of four adults comfortably. Each room had a heater and the beds were comfortable.

IDEAL LOCATION

Though the property is older and with an interesting history, we found it spacious and comfortable, very convenient to both Hendersonville and Asheville, Fletcher, and Arden. A great location for exploring the area. We enjoyed forest views from the living room. Internet worked great. Loved nearby Fletched Park for long walks. And our dog was happy!

Absolutely worst experience ever

First off, the place smelled of old cigarette smoke. We tried to get past that only to find out that the entire home was filthy and not at all sanitized. There were cobwebs, crumbs and bugs on the window sill. The bed has a foam rubber pad over the mattress that had a stains and was obviously, quite old. There was mold/mildew covering the bathroom "cabinet," an area under the sink that had a cheap curtain hung across the front. Ithe shower, there was a layer of white powder (assuming cleaning powder) that had not been touched by water, so obviously not sanitized. No hair dryer, no frying pan. The "laundry room" was on the back porch....and there was a full load of wet laundry in the washer, so again, not sanitized. Bugs everywhere. The breaking point came when I was sitting at the kitchen table and a roach crawled across my foot. I emailed the owner (it was past 10:30PM ) and, when we did not receive a response by 10:30AM, we left. Barely any sleep was had, as we piled our own sheets and blanket on top of what sparse linens were there. The smell was so bad that we had to wash everything upon returning home (not a dream vacay, driving 530 within two days), including our dogs. The owner claimed that it had been sanitized and that she would have come over and fixed everything if only I had called instead of an email. I sent pictures (absent the roach video, which would not load on the forum) to no avail. She still insists it was sanitized. This may very well be our last trip booked through VRBO. During these trying times, the last thing we need is to "vacation" at an unclean, unsafe vacation rental. I hope she doesn't bother to respond, I have pictures/video to prove everything I'm saying.

Wonderful

We have family in the area and it was so nice to have a comfortable home for relatives to visit us. Jeanette was very sweet and has the cottage decorated very cute. The bonus was the game room for the teenagers and children to play games. This was our first year not staying with my mother since she passed away in March. She would have loved that we are carrying on the tradition of getting together at Thanksgiving. I'm so happy we had a great place to stay!

Just enough!

We stayed at the Butler for 4 days with an 8 month old and 3.5 year old. There was plenty of room for us (myself, husb and 2 kiddos) and a bunk bed for 3.5 year old - he loved it! The property was exactly as described, very clean and well maintained for an older mountain house. The price was exactly what we wanted to spend and felt fair for the amenities. Some complained about hearing the hwy noise. Yes, you can hear the hwy noise... from outside! We had no issue with noise at night or when the kiddos were napping. We spent a lot of time on the porch and in the back yard shooting water guns and lighting sparklers (it was July 4th week). The yard is great for playing hide and seek too! Jeanette was very pleasant to work with and was very quick to respond when I misplaced the code for the lock box to retrieve the keys! There were plenty of pots and pans, plates, silverware, cups etc. We did, however, leave our coffee filters, seasonings, coffee and a few tupperware bowls to add to the collection for the next visitors. Just be prepared to shop or bring everything from salt to coffee filters, just in case. We were about 20- 25 mins or more from Chimney Rock, Asheville and Hendersonville down mostly back country roads. We loved the drive and rolling hills, but if you're looking for a quick drive to attractions- this may not be the place for you. The children would nap in the car so it worked great for us! We would certainly recommend the Butler to anyone looking to spend some quiet time in NC with the option of "going and doing" or just exploring the small area of Naples and Hendersonville and surrounding areas. Thank you Jeanette!

Relaxing

It is an older property but great for me and my 3 boys. It is located in a little wooded area with one neighbor. The highway is nearby but other than that it was a nice and quiet stay. Miss. Jeanette was so kind to us and I had the pleasure of sitting to talk with her and hear more about the history of the home. The cottage was perfect location for all the activities that I wanted to do such as chimney rock, sliding rock, tubing, and the waterfalls. Miss Jeanette and her friend gave wonderful options of places to go and try.

Great Little Cabin

The house was wonderful. Great size, close to both Asheville and Hendersonville, and easy to get to. Driveway took us by surprise, as it is pretty steep, but after the first couple times, you get used to it!

Perfect Place for our out of town guests!

This was the perfect place for our out of town guests! Jeanette was such a pleasure to work with! The pictures do not do this place justice! So much better in person. The cottage was clean and had everything that was needed for a week stay! My guests were snowed in so the game room was great for entertainment. Washer and dryer were so great to have. It is private, quiet and in the perfect location! Hospital, several fast food restaurants and store are close by. I could not have rented a hotel room that was as nice or as cheap as this house was for the week! All of my out of town guests will have the perfect place to stay from now on! Will never waste money on a hotel again after finding this place! May just use it as a weekend get away for hubby and I sometime! ;) Thank you Jeanette for providing everything my guests needed! It was a pleasure to work with you! If anyone is ever in need of a place for their self or their guests to stay while in town, I highly recommend this cottage! You wont find a hotel as nice or as affordable and you wont be disappointed! 5 stars*****

The cottage

What a wonderful place to stay. Jeanette the (owner) was great to work with. The night we arrived it was cold and snowing and we found out the tv was not working, she came right over and worked on it until she had us up and running. Not once did she say (can you wait till morning) she was there in 10 mins or less. The cottage was very cozy and warm and the large windows brought in all the sunlight and views. We were very impressed and we hope to return soon.

Heapin Helpin of Hospitality

My husband and I spent a glorious month at the Butler from June into July. The privacy and coziness of cabin was a perfect end to a day of exploring area sights. We were fortunate to discover a great hostess and new friend in Jeanette.and we hope to come back again and again...I would recommend this property to anyone except if they wanted to come when I do.

Weekend getaway at Butler Cottage

The Butler Cottage is a cozy and charming home away from home that is perfect for a weekend getaway. Everything you need is made available for you to use and it's a quick and easy drive to historic downtown Hendersonville. Most of all is the ambiance of the cottage that is warm and inviting making you feel so relaxed. Great place to get away and unwind for a couple of days.

Southern Hospitality Is Alive And Well

We enjoyed our stay at the Butler Cottage very much. Jeanette was very attentive and responsive whenever we had a question or small problem. It's great to stay in a place that is more like a "home away from home" than a motel. Being in Hendersonville, it is close to both outdoor activities and the Blue Ridge Parkway as well as all the stores and dining available in Hendersonville and Asheville. I would not hesitate to recommend the Butler Cottage to anyone who wishes to spend some time exploring the Asheville area.
