A beautiful place of solitude in the madding crowd
We loved this desperately quiet villa with stunning views not only all the way out to sea but in the other direction- amazing views of the Sierra Nevada mountains. We always had the most spectacular sunrises and sunsets. We did go out to the caves at Nerja , kayaking at Playa de Maro to the water caves and Frigiliana (don’t miss this intensely beautiful small town with the tiniest of streets and little shops- really worth it) and various other places BUT mostly we were happy staying by the pool with the wonderful day bed and hammocks, play area, boules court etc. it was so peaceful laying there high up the hills. James was on hand to sort at out a5 minute job and George the friendly dog came up most evenings to see us. Good bbq, aircon (although we didn’t bother with it as a window open at night was actually nicer)With regard to the barking dogs (a house across the hill)that have been mentioned in a couple of reviews- in all honesty they don’t bark at all at night - they bark at feeding time twice a day about 930 ish and about 630 in the evening but they genuinely didn’t disturb us. The other oft mentioned thing was the drive up to the villa. We hired a Peugeot 2008 and treated ourselves to an automatic to make it easier on steeper roads. It was pretty easy actually- I’ve had far worse. If you want a view you gotta head upwards. There is a couple of short sections of 1in 4 but beyond that it is lovely drive up into the hills. A gorgeous villa to just chill and enjoy the view

Will Definitely Return!
I had been looking forward to a crazy steep hill after reading all the reviews, but in reality, it is not actually all that steep if you are coming from a hilly region such as San Francisco. I don't wish to mislead anyone - it is steep - but not so much so that it should put anyone off. A lovely bottle of wine greeted us and our host could not be more accommodating. The views were spectacular! It's also extremely quiet - there is a kennel nearby and now and then you hear the distant sounds of dogs barking but otherwise its very peaceful. Just the restoration we city dwellers needed! Will definitely return!

A lovely villa in a stunning location
The villa is situated about 10 minutes drive from Velez-Malaga, in the foothills of the Sierra de Tejeda. The drive to the villa is definitely an experience! The views from the roof terrace and pool area are simply stunning. The villa itself is very private, clean and well equipped. The wildlife is varied and plentiful. James and Rafe are excellent hosts. The local beaches are clean and safe, with lots of places to eat. Torre del Mar is great for a walk along the sea front.

Incredible scenery
This villa has the most spectacular views I have ever had on a holiday. Absolutely incredible. James and Rafa were great hosts sorting out any minor issues in a timely manner. George the dog was also a welcome visitor. Even my dog disliking daughter fell in love with him. Villa is accurately described and is well worth the drive up the hill. Thanks for a great holiday.

Nous avons passé un excellent séjour à la villa Camaléon, James a été très accueillant. Super piscine et tout confort. Un paysage a coupé le souffle. Pour accéder à la villa, il y a une petite portion de chemin en terre assez chaotique, mais ça le fait ! Le seul bémol pour nous, étant en montagne, c'était l'écho des aboiements des chiens dans une villa plus loin. Sur une note sur 10, je mets 9.5 😀.

Super relaxing and secluded villa in a beautiful setting
The villa is in an absolutely beautiful setting with views of mountains, white villages and the sea. The pool area is perfect with relaxing shady areas as well as being able to catch the sun until about 6.30pm all with a backdrop of colourful flowers. There are also two outside bench tables to eat at and we had our own rooftop bar by taking chairs and drinks up to watch the sunsetting, The villa is completely private and quiet which was perfect for what we wanted. The owner lives in the property slightly downhill from the villa and, whilst giving us complete privacy, he or especially his son were always very quick to respond to any queries we had. As other reviews have stated, the uphill drive to the villa is initially tricky, We had booked a Category B car as suggested but our little Citroen C3 hire car could not make it up the hill with both passengers, cases and shopping. We offloaded cases and myself into James' car on that occasion and he gave us the invaluable advice to turn off the aircon and fan just for the steepest parts. After that we were able to get up to the villa independently each time so we would definitely suggest a more powerful car and to use the aircon off tip! We would very much recommend this villa if you want a relaxing holiday in a beautiful, secluded setting. Thank you.

Great place
A little off from the roads the villa is located at a great spot with fantastic view on the sea as well as the mountains at a steep hillside. Accommodation as described and very clean, well equipped including books, games, table tennis, boule and barbecue. We enjoyed the time and can recommend the place. Not our last time here.

A great stay, we loved it
We stayed a week and really enjoyed ourselves. The owners live very nearby but entirely separately. You are not overlooked and have total seclusion and privacy. We LOVED George and Minnie the quiet and gentle dogs who visited us every day; for us they were a total bonus.

Choose carefully
Anyone interested in going to this property should be sure that they understand the location. I admit to not doing my “homework” before booking Villa Camaleon and did not realize that there are a few drawbacks. The road to the property is very steep and narrow; one would probably get used to it but I felt quite daunted by it. It is not possible to walk into town or anywhere else for that matter. The view is marvelous and if one simply wants a few days of complete rest and relaxation this would be a good choice. The housekeeping leaves a bit to be desired although James is very responsive to needs. We found the place cold and were unable to adequately warm it up with the heaters, for which we had to pay by inserting coins into a meter! We did enjoy the company of the two dogs who are as charming as James and his son, Rafa, but eventually decided that the location was a mistake for our needs.

Relaxing Villa
Cosy villa in a pretty location. Everything you need for a relaxing holiday. Owner was helpful and easy to get hold of. Directions to the property were good, including finding my way after the sun had gone down. Only downside is sometimes when I'm scan reading amenities on HomeAway it's easy to miss that Wifi and AC have an extra charge. But it is covered in the details so fair enough. Would stay again.

Brilliant for families
We chose this villa on the location of the pool as we couldn’t risk our 2 year old twins getting out and into the pool but the villa as a whole was perfect for our family of 6, they have every thing you might need from towels to beach mats and sun umbrellas for a day at the beach...it really is a beautiful villa in the most stunning location

We had a lovely stay at the fab villa. Made some trips to Nerja, Malaga and Fueringola. The zoo at Fuengirola is very nice! Had dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe in Malaga and Safari Lounge in Torre del Mar. Nina and James are very nice owners and their dogs Mini and George are just so cute! The dogs spent most of the the time with us on the terrace and in the house. We can warmly recommend this Villa.

Our Perfect holiday
We have had such a fantastic holiday! We have family just down the road in Benajarafe so a great location to be close to them. This villa has a unique character a little gem hidden in the mountains. We managed to pack a lot into our week´s holiday including a day trip to Gibraltar which was amazing! The nature reserve and seeing the monkeys is a must! We also went to Marbella and Mijas which the children found fascinating. There is so much I could write about our holiday but to sum it up little James gave it a BIG thumbs up. Thank-you Nina and James for the beautiful flowers I have taken some pictures so I will always remember how beautiful the colours were. Lovely Villa, lovely view, lovely owners
I gave Villa Camaleón a 5 star review as it warranted only that! The Villa was fabulous, spotless, had everything we needed. The owners were exceptional. We wanted for nothing. You could do as much as you want or as little. It depended on your mood of the day. Day trips to Seville, Rhonda, Malaga are possible. We even did supper trips to Torre del Mar, Cadiz and Malaga. Sitting on the veranda you could watch freighters in the Mediterranean. We had a wonderful time and even had visits from George and Milli ( the family pets). A wonderful place which I would recommend to anyone planning to visit the area.

Most Peaceful and Relaxing Holiday Stay Ever
We wanted a totally relaxing holiday where we did not have to go far and just enjoy the place. This was it; it had everything we needed and more. We made full use of the facilities every day which included, swimming in the large pool, sun bathing on the sun loungers, siestas in the hammocks, regular BBQ's and games of Table Tennis all overlooking the beautiful views of the mountains and hills down to the sea. There is a large Hypermarket only 15 minutes drive away down in Velez Malaga which had everything that you could possibly need. Nina and James were lovely and it was good to know there were close by for peace of mind if needed and they had 2 friendly well behaved dogs called George and Minnie who came over to see us from time to time to say hello. We will definitely be back. Wendy & Edd.

Paradise on the Costa Del Sol!
This property was magical, the view was spectacular, the villa was spotlessly clean with everything you would need, the owners were very hospitable and very friendly and our children wanted to take George and Mini(the owners dogs) home. Our stay was very restful and relaxing and the pool was fantastic for us and our 3 children to have great fun in. We did many things in the surrounding area which were only a short drive from the villa. We would definitely recommend this villa, you will love it! We will 100% be back.

Amazing location & breathtaking views. Perfect for a relaxing holiday!
We had an amazing two week stay at Villa Camaleon! It’s location is amazing, and although the short drive up the mountain was hair-raising to begin with (we didn’t arrive until midnight), we soon got used it. The views are unlike anything else and the fact it’s remote means we really had chance to switch off and relax during our stay. The nearest town is only a short 10-15 minute drive away, which is great when you need to get food shopping, visit the beach or go for a nice meal (thoroughly recommend Safari Loung in Torre Del Mar). A little further is Nerja, which is only 40 minutes away, which has beaches, shops, markets and tourist attractions like the Caves. The villa itself is clean, well equipped and clearly well maintained with the added bonus of excellent WiFi! There was 6 adults in our party and plenty of room for all of us. We spent most of our time in the pool area, which looks out onto incredible views of the mountains and coastline. The hammocks and day bed were also a big hit with us and perfect for getting a bit of shade after a day in the sun. It was a novelty to be able to sit on the terrace/porch area in the evening and enjoy a BBQ and a few drinks. More often than not we were joined by James and Nina’s two dogs, Mini and George, who were great company for us (they don’t come inside the villa). James and Nina were the perfect hosts and really made our stay! They live just underneath the villa, but you would never know they were there. They were really helpful, friendly and attentive throughout our stay, giving us tips of things to do and places to visit - for example, walking to the top of the mountain where the villa is situated, where the views are out of this world! If you’re looking for a chilled out, relaxing break in the sun then I would thoroughly recommend staying at villa Camaleon. We’ll definitely be returning very soon!

Perfect for a relaxing holiday
We selected this villa for its remote location, beautiful website photos and great reviews. On arrival, we were NOT disappointed. The villa is clean and well maintained, adequately equipped and set in beautifully maintained grounds. The pool area is gorgeous, and any stress brought from home and work, soon evaporated through relaxing by the pool and taking in the mountain and sea views which are ever changing throughout the day. The property is very private with James and Nina on hand if required but always respecting our privacy. The house and pool area we felt were safe for our adventurous 5-year-old girl whose swimming improved no end during our stay and she loved the daily visits from George and Minnie the dogs, who were very friendly and never a nuisance. The location is remote, but easily accessible with a half decent hire car and Nina’s concise instructions, and despite its location, a quick trip into Velez-Malaga for the daily loaf is a breeze. When we could tear ourselves away from the Villa, Granada was within easy reach for a bit of culture, but other than a bit off shopping to stock up on supplies, we were very happy to pass a very enjoyable week at Villa Camaleon. Highly recommended!

Glorious location with incredible views.
We had a fantastic stay at the villa. The location is incredibly peaceful and the views are stunning. Our daughter (and we) loved the two dogs and feeding the pigs down the hill. When it got a bit chilly at night the wood-burning stove was just the job. The picturesque location of the pool was breathtaking, as was the temperature of the water (we were here in April)!

Fabulously relaxing villa with stunning views
This villa is an absolute gem in the most stunning location. The first drive up the mountain (following Nina) in the dark was a hair-raising experience.But when we awoke the next day to the breath-taking view it made it well worth it. During the rest of the week the drive up & down was a source of amusement in the car more than a problem. The Villa was spotlessly clean & had everything you could possibly need for the week (and a few others things that I found on the last day when I was clearing everything up). In fact it was much better equipped than most villas I have stayed in. Quick tip :- check ALL the wardrobe cupboards as there are some helpful items in them. The pool area was lovely with the most spectacular view. The pool isn't heated & it took a bit of getting used to when you first get in but it really isn't an issue, we spent many hours playing about in the pool. An added bonus for the week were Georgie & Minnie (Nina & James' 2 dogs). They were clearly quite good at working our meal times & popped up for breakfast lunch & dinner most days. They even had a little sing & dance with us one night. Both very well behaved though & do not enter the house. They also have a couple of pigs which welcome any left over food you may have. Exploring the local area from here was easy. once you tackle the 10 min drive down the mountain you are very close to the main road. From here you can reach several of the local areas within 30 mins. We visited Nerja, Torrox, Torre Del Mar and I also did a few magical mystery tours which is a favourite pastime of mine and my sons. (drive and see where you end up). If we had been here for longer I would have travelled further but the main point of this holiday was too relax & we certainly achieved that. There were 4 members of my group myself, my 12 year old son & some friends (a couple). The layout of the villa gave us all some privacy if we needed it & you could sit on the terrace (dining area) with a glass of wine & not be overlooking the pool area. So on some days we were able to do our own thing here very easily & never felt on top of each other. Nina was very helpful although not intrusive & although their villa is just below the pool area you could easily forget they were there. Book this villa and you will marvel at every sunrise and sunset and have the most relaxing holiday you can imagine and I would recommend it without question. Wonderful!
We had ten great days here in September 2017. The property has everything you would need for a family holiday. The villa and pool are wonderful, very clean and clearly well maintained. Excellent wifi too. We spent our time either lazing about by the large pool which seemed to have the sun all day (plenty of sunbeds, and the day bed was so comfy and in the shade, which suited me) or visiting the local coastal towns. There is lots to see and do within 30/40 mins drive of the villa if you wish to explore and the nearest town is 10/15 mins away in the car. We found lots of restaurants which cater for all tastes and budgets (great steaks at the Safari Lounge in Torre del Mar). The setting is amazing, there are some photos of the views on the website but they don't really show how impressive it actually is. It is right up in the hills so it is a very private house/pool. The owners live a little further down the track and are available if you have any queries but otherwise they are very respectful of your privacy and you do feel as if it is YOUR villa :) The owners, Nina and James, were very helpful throughout the booking process replying quickly to my emails. When we arrived Nina met us about ten minutes out from the property to show us the way and to make sure we found the villa . After that, we knew where we were going. These little things make a difference, as after the flight and hassle of car hire at the airport all I wanted was to get in the pool, have a beer and light the BBQ. I think if we go again it would be for longer as there is plenty to see but it can be difficult to drag yourself away from the pool. Many thanks to James, Nina and the boys for a great holiday.

Stunning location
Lovely relaxing week in June enjoying the peace and quiet of Villa Camaleon. Views down the valley to Torre Del Mar are stunning and we didn't move from the pool for the first three days. Nina was very welcoming on the first day and the track to the villa is fine to drive up, we have driven much worse in Spain and it kind of goes with the territory if you want a remote villa. The coast road to Nerja is worth a drive a there are a couple of nice restaurants on the beach side with large BBQ grills outside. Also worth visiting is La Herradura the other side of Nerja, there is a nice restaurant right on the beach at the far end of the bay, try the seafood stuffed peppers! All in all a nice relaxing week, just what we needed and would definitely recommend to others.

Had such a lovely week at Villa Camaleon. The road up is an adventure for a family from very flat Lincolnshire but the views make it all worth it. The Villa has everything you could need for self catering stay. It was great to have the swim pool & table tennis too. Well worth a visit. We hope to come back one day.

Fabulous villa, stunning location
You could tell that this is a much loved and cared for property.Nina and James ensure that guests are made to feel comfortable and welcome. There are plenty of kitchen appliances, television, DVD, Wi-Fi, ample books and games. The villa is decorated to a high standard and the decor is thoughtfully presented whilst giving you the feeling of home. The pool area is fabulous and private. Access to the villa is steep but easily accessible. We enjoyed our stay here immensely and hope to return.

A total relaxation in outstanding surroundings
We stayed for a week at the end of August 2016. We are a family of 4 with 2 young children, aged 4 and 6. We had such an amazing stay. The villa is well equipped with everything you need and more. The outside space was outstanding. Photos don't do it any justice! The huge pool and the hammocks and day bed were a total dream for the children. When they weren't in the pool they chilled in the hammocks in the shade which meant we got to sit in the sun, read our books and take in the breath taking views. It is in a great location. If you're wanting quiet, gorgeous surroundings away from a busy town/city as we did; this is the place for you. It was less than 40 minutes from the airport. Once you got used to the drive to the top of the hill to the villa and down again you are only 20 mins drive from the huge hyper market (and other shops) and 30 mins from Torre del Mar where there is lots of restaurants and huge beach front and little stalls and markets at night. We recommend the Safari Lounge for a very reasonable, and tasty meal and great for children. We ventured to Torre Del Mar 4 times; 3 at night and once in the day for the beach but in all honesty, we didn't want to leave the villa. We would love to come back and would recommend to all our friends and family. Nina and James (and the children, dogs and pigs) were lovely hosts and very accommodating. We wished we stayed for 2 weeks!

Absolute stunning villa
Myself my husband and two children aged 18 and 12 have just returned from Nina's villa brilliant holiday the villa has everything you could need or want and the location is absolutely stunning we will definitely be returning next year. After having many years of all inclusive holiday we have been converted to the relaxing villa life the best holiday in years.

Perfect for everyone! Stunning views and ambience
We had the most amazing week at Villa Camaleon. We actually felt very envious of the people coming in after us and wished we had booked a 2nd week. We read the reviews about the road up to the villa and whilst this sort of stuff does not phase us, when we arrived it wasn't as bad as some have said. James will meet you just before the drive up and the majority of it is tarmac with areas where some gravel lays ontop, so nothing to worry about at all. The view driving up gives you the most stunning views of the mountains and the coast so if mountain roads isn't your thing the views will certainly take your mind off that. Nina and James and their gorgeous boys could not have been more welcoming and the Villa and location was just Wow!! Very clean and spacious with everything you need for a perfect holiday. Sleeping 6 very comfortably with great social space inside and out and we certainly miss the views from every angle. The BBQ and Alfresco dining area with fairy lights was used everyday, with a chorus of Crickets for background music. Brilliant. The pool and sunbathing area was perfect especially and the outdoor games were a huge bonus. The day bed next to the pool was a great place to get out of the sun but also for a sundowner and looking at the stars - there is no light pollution there in the evenings and the starlit sky is just awesome. Nina & James live just down the road and are there if you really need them which is great to know and their lovely boys came and played with our 10 year old on a couple of days which made his holiday extra special. We ventured out most days and the town of Velez has everything you need, taking approx 10 minutes to get there. Lots of history and places of interest too. The huge hypermarket is only a 15 minutes drive away as is the brilliant Aqua Park. Nerja and Torrox were great places to visit with fantastic restaurants and only 15/20 minutes drive. We can highly recommend the river walk at Nerja but do wear trainers, not flip flops as my fashion conscious sister did! 3 adults in their forties and a 10 year old - there was a real mix of needs and interests between us and Villa Camaleon and it's location ticked all the boxes and was perfect for us all. We chatted everyday about when we can return - which we cant wait to do.

Fantastisches Bergabenteuer
Unser Aufenthalt in Arenas war wundervoll. Das Haus liegt auf dem Berg und bietet einen wundervollen Ausblick über das Tal sowie auf das Meer in der Ferne. Unsere Anfahrt war etwas beschwerlich, weil wir bei Dunkelheit und Regen angekommen sind. Es gibt genau zwei Wege über Serpentinen zu dem Haus, weshalb ich eine Anreise am Tag empfehle. Die genauen Koordinaten bekommt man vom Vermieter via App. Hat man die steile Anfahrt geschafft, findet man eine einmalige Location vor. Besonders der eigene Pool ist bei gutem Wetter herrlich. Das Haus verfügt über einen Kamin, so dass man auch heizen kann, sollte man Wetterpech haben. Der Vermieter ist sehr nett und gut zu erreichen und stellt auch Holz zur Verfügung. Zum nächsten Supermarkt fährt man in knapp 15 Minuten.

Magnifique vue
Séjour agréable. Villa tranquille. Piscine excellente. Commerces et centre commercial alentours. Plages à 20 minutes. Un chien nous a rendu visite, gentil, n'aboit même pas. Le refuge spa se fait entendre mais on n'y prête pas attention et sommes souvent absents donc pas gênant. Seul bémol... la route qui mène à la villa...1.8km dans le vide. Ne pas avoir le vertige. Suv conseillé. Belle villa quand même.

Wundervolles Panorama
Alles bestens und wie beschrieben und erwartet. Die Poolterrasse mit Pool, Liegen, Hängematten und schattigem Bett war unser Lieblingsplatz. Toll wären noch ein oder 2 Beistelltische auf der unteren Terrasse, ebenso beim Essplatz draußen vor dem Haus und Sitzgelegenheiten auf der Dachterrasse mit einmaligem Panoramablick. Das Haus ist gut eingerichtet, alles da, was man braucht. Die Einrichtung ist etwas in die Jahre gekommen, was aber nicht weiter stört. Ein Bonbon ist der kleine Platz hinterm Haus mit Dartscheibe und Tischtennisplatte. Der Platz könnte etwas gepflegter sein, dann wäre auch die Boules-Bahm besser zu nutzen. Die Umgebung ist wunderschön, allerdings ist der Weg zum Haus nicht so ohne. Die Straße ist sehr schmal, steil und kurvig, voller Schlaglöcher und die letzten 500m nur Schotterpiste. Das ca 15 min entfernte Velez-Malaga ist ein authentischer Ort, nicht zu touristisch. Ein kleiner Supermarkt hat auch sonntags geöffnet. Der Markt donnerstags ist nur zu empfehlen. Tolles Angebot zu Superpreisen. Insgesamt ist das Haus bis auf Hundegebell sehr ruhig und einsam gelegen. Wir konnten uns sehr gut erholen. James ist ein vorbildlicher Gastgeber, sehr gut erreichbar und bei Problemen sofort zur Stelle - das Wasser hatte uns kurzzeitig im Stich gelassen. Trotzdem hatten wir absolut unsere Privatsphäre. Fazit: Ein wundervoller Aufenthalt

The view is gorgeous!
Lovely place in the mountains with a beautiful view over the sea. Very nice host who is always happy to help out. As mentioned in other reviews, we would also recommend a bigger car, especially if you got 3 kids, a trolly and your luggage ;) The house itself got everything you need to stay for a while. We didn't have big things to complain about, only some minor things we already told James. For example the toys on the property or the cooking utilities could be renewed. We really enjoyed our stay and hope you'll too.

Geweldig huis op een hele mooie plek!
We hebben 10 dagen heerlijk genoten in dit mooie huis. Het ligt op een berg waardoor je enorm veel privacy hebt. Wij waren met z'n tweeën maar je kan prima met meerdere personen verblijven. Het huis is ruim, netjes en van alle gemakken voorzien. Het zwembad is geweldig en de hele plek is gewoon heel rustgevend en relaxed. De host is supervriendelijk en wij vonden het ook heel gezellig dat George de hond af en toe even gedag kwam zeggen. Wij zijn helemaal opgeladen. We komen graag nog eens terug!

eine wunderschöne Zeit
Wir haben mit 3 Kindern einen wunderschönen Urlaub in de Villa Camaleon verbracht. Die Gastgeber sind sehr freundlich, das Ferienhaus in einer sehr schönen Lage mit Blick entlang der Berge bis zum Mittelmeer. Wir haben die Zeit dort sehr genossen und kommen gern wieder.

Très bel emplacement et calme absolu. Une vue imprenable et magnifique vers la mer au bord la piscine. Un très bon séjour en Andalousie. Malgré tout, un accès en voiture très compliqué à la propriété car il faut passer par des chemins très escarpés et de terre.. Beaucoup de guêpes au bord le piscine et des punaises de lit qui ne nous ont pas loupées.. Le mobilier de jardin au bord de la piscine mériterait d'être remplacé ainsi que certains pièces du mobilier et de la cuisine.. A éviter pour les enfants en bas âges..

Une vue à couper le souffle !
Parfait séjour dans cette villa située dans les hauteurs avec certes une route pentue et caillouteuse dans les derniers kms mais qui nous a paru plus que pratiquable. Et la vue sur les montagnes et la mer en est une sacrée récompense, on a profité avec plaisir de chaque coucher de soleil. La maison est bien équipée, la piscine très appréciable et la communication avec les propriétaires s'est très bien passée. Il faut apprécier le contact des chiens qui sont venus régulièrement nous rendre visite mais qui sont très calme et discret. Merci pour le séjour !
