"The place has a hostel feel to it. The entryway and garden are dirty but the room itself was clean. The communication with management was slow but when they did respond they were very accommodating. The room was a good size, the place was quiet and in a convenient location. All in all, I’d say it’s not bad for a short stay."

Our guide on where to stay in Aix-en-Provence

Find the best Aix-en-Provence areas for the activities you enjoy most.

Mazarin Quarter

The 17th-century Mazarin Quarter in Aix-en-Provence blends aristocratic history with modern charm. Stone mansions with wrought-iron balconies line geometric streets where art and culture thrive. The Granet Museum showcases impressive Cézanne works within this elegant French urban design. Discover hidden art galleries housed in converted mansion courtyards while strolling tree-lined avenues. Upscale bistros serve Provençal specialities between morning visits to the Hôtel de Caumont arts centre. The area maintains its refined residential character while welcoming visitors to explore its architectural treasures.

Aix-en-Provence Historic Centre

Stroll through the enchanting Aix-en-Provence Historic Centre where golden limestone buildings line tree-shaded streets. Elegant fountains gurgle in sun-dappled squares surrounded by 17th-century mansions with wrought-iron balconies. The majestic Cathédrale Saint-Sauveur rises above cobblestone lanes that wind through this cultural heart of Provence. This artistic area was home to painter Paul Cézanne, whose works hang in the Musée Granet. Explore the vibrant café terraces along Cours Mirabeau where locals and visitors gather. Traditional Provençal bistros serve regional specialities while artisan boutiques offer lavender products and local ceramics.

Est

The Est district offers an authentic slice of everyday Provençal life away from Aix-en-Provence's tourist bustle. This peaceful residential haven features tree-lined streets with ochre stone houses and traditional wrought-iron balconies. Locals greet each other as morning shutters open to the scent of fresh bread. Parc Saint-Mitre provides a green retreat with Mediterranean vegetation and walking paths. Small family-run bistros serve traditional Provençal dishes in a relaxed atmosphere. Though Est has few tourist attractions, central Aix's treasures like Granet Museum are just a short drive away.

Sud

The Sud area offers a peaceful retreat from Aix-en-Provence's bustling centre. Tree-lined streets and local markets create an authentic French atmosphere. Parc Jourdan provides a leafy sanctuary where locals gather and children play. Budget-friendly accommodation make Sud an excellent choice for travellers seeking value. Area bistros serve traditional Provençal fare at reasonable prices. The area connects easily to central attractions like Granet Museum via regular bus service.

Grand Sud

If you're spending some time in Grand Sud, Aix-Marseille Golf and Arena du Pays d'Aix are top sights worth seeing.

8/10 Good
"Stayed for a week with family. Amazing location and ideally placed for trips into Aix and surrounding areas and about 30 minutes to nice beaches. Stayed in a basic but comfortable twin room. Window in the room is strange as if the blind is open people walking past can look straight in. Shower doesn’t have a door so water goes all over the floor. Beds are comfortable, plenty of wardrobe space, a desk and a bedside table. Air conditioning was great even in 38 degree heat. There are no balconies in these rooms. Pool is lovely but there are only 16 sun loungers and guests are claiming these at 8am before going off to do other things. Some of these loungers are empty for hours and I witnessed arguments and towel throwing when other guests decided to occupy these empty loungers and the original guests returned. It is never clear which of the venues are open for food and drink and at what time. On a Friday and Saturday night some sort of private night club takes over one of the venues and everything else closes so you are unable to get anything to eat or drink. There is no vending machine so if you don’t want to go out there is absolutely nothing. You can get a takeaway delivered Food and drink, when you can get it, is good and reasonably priced. Overall, we had a great time and would definitely return but if the communication around bar/restaurant opening could improve and if the sun lounger situation could be sorted out, it would be even better."

"We had a lovely overnight stay at the hotel. All the staff we met were exceptional - friendly, courteous and helpful. The hotel has a quiet and relaxed atmosphere. The loss of one star is due to the weird room configuration. The ensuite in room 107 was at the far end of the room and had a shower and washbasin, the lavatory was by the entrance to the room but did not have a washbasin in it, which meant that after using the loo you had to walk across the room to wash your hands - fine during the day, but a nuisance if you need to go at night."
