A popular resort location, this gathering spot is home to stylish promenades, sophisticated restaurants and a number of excellent beaches.

Extensive funding has made Adeje one of the best destinations on Tenerife for families and couples. Luxury hotels, chic waterfront restaurants and high-end shops border this affluent coastal stretch. Explore the pretty town of Adeje for a few hours before heading to the beach.

Stop by the town’s 17th-century church, Iglesia de Santa Ursula. Admire the building’s coffered ceiling and Mexican-style bell tower. Look inside at the statue of the Virgen del Rosario, sculpted by one of Tenerife’s most well known artists, Fernando Estevez. Look for a balcony with a wrought-iron screen, where the town’s wealthy rulers, the Ponte family, used to pray.

The Ponte family was responsible for constructing the 16th-century Casa Fuerte. Initially built as a fortified residence to protect the city against pirate invasions, the building was eventually used to collect sugar cane produced by slave labour. Although the ruins are off-limits to tourists, pause for a glance at the somewhat haunting exterior.

Head to beautiful Del Duque Beach, the town’s most popular stretch of coastline. With golden sands and palm trees, the beach is a welcoming place to lounge in the sun or enjoy a swim. Check out the numerous shops found not far from the sands or sign up for an exciting activity like diving or body boarding.

Escape the crowds and go to the lovely fishing village of La Caleta, a short walk down the coast. Although the beaches here are covered with pebbles rather than sand, the clear waters are perfect for snorkeling. Enjoy a meal of fresh fish at one of the many restaurants overlooking the sea.

Don’t leave without visiting Siam Park, a gigantic themed water park modelled after the Thai kingdom of Siam. Float down the lazy river, relax on the surprisingly pretty man-made beach or enjoy the many rides and slides.

Adeje is located in southwestern Tenerife. Reach the area by bus from Playa de las Americas and other popular resorts.

Very busy place in summer but very safe with a lot of options for dining, drinking, beaches and activities. People on the side of the beach selling sunglasses, sarongs, bags etc but they didn’t hassle you like in some other destinations.
