The carpet in the room was stained and dirty. The television didn't work. The fixtures in the bathroom were loose, some broken. There was no way to get into the hotel except walking up 10 stairs with a very heavy suitcase. Actually, that's not true. To leave the hotel, I asked if there was a way out without the stairs. The kind receptionist took me out a staff-only door which was a filthy, smelly alley. Finally, I left a piece of sentimental jewelry in the room, notified Reception and asked for its return. The receptionist said Housekeeping had left (it was 2 pm) but she said she herself would follow up and call me back. I then emailed the hotel confirming my call and advising of the lost jewelry. Two days later, I've still not heard anything. Pretty sure my jewelry was taken. Do not stay here.

Lovely Staff but the hotel is situated in a run down area. I need to get a hotel near the railway station and this fits the bill. The staff’s friendliness and helpfulness will ensure I return.

Real potential, staff very nice.
Late booking this. Great price and hotel seems nice enough. Lacking any atmosphere, I know this hotel has new owners however it could be made great. Room cold on arrival though with no heating on. Hotel has real potential but seemed very quiet despite the spectra festival.

Booked a suite but it was more of a family room split in half. No fridge. Pillows rubbish. Awake most of the night with what I’m assuming was plumbing problems. The noice from the pipes was horrendous.

Superb staff.
The staff are outstanding - especially Andreia! Please be aware that the booking apps all advertise a bar and restaurant - they are closed - you will have to seek an evening meal/drinks elsewhere. Breakfast is continental only and is basic but good - no hot food.

Booked last minute superior double for one night stay. Given Room 102, bathroom handle off, lock and toilet seat hanging off. Curtain hanging off rail. Pillowcase was labelled as a laundry bag and didnt cover the pillow. On plus side guy at reception very nice andchelpful when asked for change of room. Given 502 suite with harbour view, different altogether and enjoyed our stay. Warm clean very comfortable bed. Lovely moder clean bathroom. Cant comment on breakfast as didnt book for.

The room was covered in mould, no pillowcases on yellow, stained pillows, two single beds pushed up against the wall with no headboard, bathroom walls had dirt running down them, shower screen dirty. Nothing like the picture that was shown for the type of room I booked. After complaining I was moved to a suite which was much better but not what I’d expect from a 4 star hotel. Still no pillowcases on dirty pillows, bathroom mirror dirty, no remote for tv. Reception staff was friendly and helpful.

This used to be a fantastic and very superior hotel, however my impression from this visit was that the maintenance and upkeep of the hotel has been ignored and it is now a shadow of its former self. From my experience I say this because: Given pillow cases at checkin as insufficient staff to finish this during they day Light bulb not working in room One window blind in room not working Cracked plug socket Carpet and desk looking worn and well used Shower head had a number of blocked nozzles and loose loo roll holder The staff were very good though and took a genuine interest when I checked out and reported the light and blind,

We had a double superior room booked, was a bit surprised to see two single beds made up together to illustrate this. We got moved to a better room, albeit a double bed room, but we won’t be staying there anymore

Convenient location but subpar conditions
I have mixed feelings about this hotel. It is conveniently located in the town centre. The staff at the reception are all very friendly and always make an effort to assist. However, the overall condition of the hotel falls well below the standard expected of a 4-star hotel. During my 6-night stay at the Rox, I encountered several issues. On the day of my arrival, I discovered that the safe deposit box in my room was not functioning. Despite the reception's attempt to fix it, it was unsuccessful. Eventually, they provided me with another functioning safe deposit box. The following day, the hotel's internet stopped working, and it remained that way for a full 24 hours. Although the issue was eventually identified, I continued to experience internet connectivity problems in my room. They eventually provided me with the password for the staff network, which allowed me to connect. From the moment I arrived, two lights in my room had never worked. Despite multiple requests for bulb replacements, they were not able to provide the suitable light bulbs. Worse still, the heater in my room stopped working on the second last day of my stay. I reported the issue in the morning, and they suggested changing my room. However, when I entered the new room, another customer was staying inside! It turned out that there were some mistakes in the system that caused the mix-up. These consecutive incidents reminded me of the comedic situations depicted in the TV show "Fawlty Towers."

First and last time i will stay at this hotel the room was dirty clearly the house keepers dont do there job there was no lights working in the room blinds coming off the window when we asked for our room to be changed we got told there were no other rooms available yet you could go online and book a room ( mmm someone was telling lies ) they had to take light bulbs from other areas of the hotel to put into our room as there were no other available light bulbs the receptionist was the one who then had to come up and try rectify the job of a house keeper the hotel is just a shambles totally not worth the money that was charged for the room

We booked 2 rooms, on arrival discovered there was one room on first floor & another on 4th floor. We did raise our disappointment at this with reception, but the response we got was " they are both the same kind of rooms" & couldnt move us closer. Trying to find our room wasn't the easiest, not well signposted & corridors everywhere. Not much help/direction from reception, other than "the lift is round there". Eventually we found our room (406), the electric blinds on inlaying roof did not work!! Not much power in the shower either. Continental breakfast,had usual choices,coffee machine was broken, so had a thermos pot with luke warm water or coffee in. Not another soul in the place. Very disappointed, wouldnt stay again

Room was dreadful, bashed woodwork, lighting and furniture. Carpet and walls filthy, could not have stayed and asked to be moved. New room was marginally better but no hot water in the morning to shower! Would definitely never stay in this hotel again and would not recommend it to anyone. Really very disappointed.

Hotel was disappointing. Room and facilities dated, dusty and in need of an overhaul. Floors in communal areas unclean as was the lift. Breakfast awful. We didn’t eat, got the feeling the food wasn’t very fresh. Would not return again.

Nice hotel in good central location. Room was generally clean but don’t look to closely and bedding had a big hole in it . T.V did not work and was told someone was coming out to fix it ( no station reception) but that did not happen ) I would stay there again but not at a premium .

Very disappointing
I stayed 2 nights after a 16 hour journey to get there. I was offered the opportunity to checkout and credited £25 for the inconvenience of having no hot water for both nights, due to their boiler blowing. The room was grubby with marks all over the walls and carpets, mould and grime around the shower and a strange stain on the throw for the bed. Staff were lovely but working with some exceptional circumstances this week.

No Hot Water
Please ignore the online pictures of this Hotel it is nothing like how it portrays itself. The room was shabby and there was no hot water for a shower. I asked at at the repception and was informed that the boiler had been turned on and it would take 15-20mins for the boiler to heat, I hadnt time to wait as I was working and had to leave. Sorry but this Hotel is by far the worst experience I have had in a long time.

I booked a Junior Suite which was advertised as being a large room with a sofa seating area. Having stopped at this hotel 6 years ago that is what I expected. When i arrived in the room it was no bigger than a lot of average business hotel rooms and there wasn't even a chair in the room. I had to ask reception who brought up a small desk chair which wasn't the most comfortable to sit on after a day out. The toilet seat was broken and the sink plug system was broken as the plug itself was missing. Very disappointing to say that it advertised itself on Expedia as a Junior Suite. I have had more facilities in business hotels in the past. Unfortunately I will not be returning to the Rox Hotel in the future.
