“Look forward to my next stay”

A beautifully and respectfully restored hotel with all the modern amenities, responsive staff, and awesome in-room breakfast. The comfy robes are an added bonus!

“Charming European style hotel!”

This was such a lovely room and the hotel employees were extremely kind and helpful. I would love to stay here again. They also have a wonderful Italian restaurant in house. Great downtown setting. The parking system is a bit awkward and the all night valet I thought to be a bit high priced for California, but all in all a lovely hotel. Kathleen

“A beautiful hotel”

This hotel is beautifully maintained as a historic structure in San Jose. The wood paneling, crown mouldings and decorating details provide a rich environment. The room was small, but comfortable. The only problem is the location next to the rapid transit trolley line, which may disrupt some travelers' sleep. I did not mind it.

“Charming historic hotel”

Enjoyed staying at this historic hotel during a conference in San Jose. Window opens for fresh air! Bathrooms were old world beautiful. Wonderful stair to walk as an option to the elevator, get a little exercise. I was very happy with my stay.

“Great Experience”

The Sainte Clare is the best in class in the surrounding SJ downtown neighborhood, but their customer service might be the best I've ever experienced at any hotel. Stayed for 3 nights and loved it. Reasonably priced, great food and service: Great value. For both the price and customer service it can't be beat. Only negative is the Gym is a little small compared to larger hotels, but I think that's to be expected and very minor. Very quiet, but our room was located on the side away from the street.

“Loved this hotel!”

I rarely stay in a hotel which I can really recommend. This hotel was an exception! The room was very small but cozy and nice. The beds were very comfortable as were the numerous pillows. It was very clean and I am very picky about cleanliness. The hotel itself is very lovely and the staff was wonderful. We were in town for a convention and every one we knew who stayed at other surrounding hotels wished they had stayed at the St. Claire instead. The walls may be a little thin as we could hear some of what the neighboring rooms were doing but didn't feel it was too much of as issue as the we were tired at the end of the day and the beds were so comfortable we were out quickly. I would highly recommend this hotel!

“Very nice...Older classy hotel”

This is an older hotel that's in great shape. The people were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The Il Forniao (sp?) restaurant downstairs is excellent. I would be happy to stay there any time.

“very nice old downtown hotel”

Had just returned from a long trip in Asia and was hoping to find a hotel not as depresssing as most US hotels in this price range, and this hotel was what I was looking for. An old restored downtown hotel with all the modern conveniences and amenities, good service, and even a business center with up to date computers and a printer. Service was good, efficient, and pleasant. Room very attractive. Very nice antique furniture, deep featherbed and lots of down pillows, original fixtures throughout, or equivalent, all in excellent condition. Lobby and adjoining public rooms also very attractive. Liked the original stairs all the way up. Elevator pretty old too, but worked well enough. Restaurant was booked for a wedding the night I was there so couldn't try dinner, but breakfast was good. Downtown San Jose is pretty dead even on a Saturday night, but plenty of other good restaurants within walking distance. Parking in the immediate area is expensive, but I parked my rental car overnight a few blocks south off Market St. after the parking meters ended and it was ok next morning.
