Seminyak Beach is one of Bali’s more upscale beaches, thanks to the luxury resorts, fine-dining restaurants and famous nightclubs that are to be found in this area. Quieter than the neighbouring beaches of Kuta and Legian, it is the perfect spot to soak up the sun during the day, and mingle with a glamorous crowd at night.
Head out early in the day to secure your favourite sunbathing spot, and to enjoy the peace and tranquillity. The sands appear to stretch out to the North and South as far as the eye can see. This is also the best time of day to catch a wave, if surfing is your thing. Although the water conditions are said to be better at Kuta Beach, there is still plenty to challenge even intermediate surfers. Book a lesson at one of the nearby schools, or simply hire a board and take to the water.
Back from the waterfront, Seminyak village has plenty of luxury boutiques and excellent art galleries to explore. Discover the work of contemporary Indonesian artists such as Ugo Untoro, Wianta and Chusin Setiadikara, famous for his mastery of realism.
After a day’s swimming, surfing and shopping, recharge your batteries with a luxurious and pampering spa treatment. You’ll be spoilt for choice within Seminyak village itself, or for the ultimate experience, head to one of the resort spas overlooking the ocean. Try the traditional “Boreh” treatment, where a warming balm scented with spices and coconut melts away any aches and pains.
At the end of the afternoon, make your way back to the beach to admire the spectacular sunset. You’ll find plenty of elegant bars and restaurants along the sea front offering gourmet food and exquisite cocktails. After dark, the sophisticated nightclubs draw in an up-market crowd, so be prepared for world-famous DJs and an all-night party.
Seminyak Beach is 30 minutes by car from Denpasar Airport, and approximately 15 minutes from Kuta. There are plenty of accommodation options to choose from, but as this area targets the luxury market, prices are significantly higher than elsewhere.
