The staff were so nice! Really great place to stay on a budget too. Very nice location- you can walk right down to shops, hikes, and other fun activities. LOVED it! Would definitely book again :)
Decent room and beds, clean, friendly staff, and a fair price. Ramon the dog was extremely cute and an effective security pupper. I was sad not to have met the local kitty cats I was advised of, but you can't have everything :-)
Good stay here. Booked private room - was a seperate building outside with short walk into main building for bathroom and kitchen. All pretty clean - room was a bit heavy with smell or air freshener. Parking is tight but generally available. Easy walk into Queenstown (~15 min) for main sites/attractions in town.
Nice hotel, staff very friendly, room was clean, plenty of shared areas, easily walkable
Only noticed it could use a couple more bathrooms/showers, but with as busy as the hotel was, we had to shower it was never more than a 5 minute wait.
Definitely would stay here again! Loved it.
This was a great backpackers to stay at overall. The only thing I think needs to be noted is that I believe there was a leak in our "cabin". The room was musty smelling and at times the carpet felt damp.
I liked the plantings around the property and the staff was very helpful. The room was pleasant and bathroom was clean. The kitchen needed attention but was not an issue for us as we weren’t using it. It was just that residents hadn’t cleaned up from dinner.
Exactly what a good hostel should be. Clean rooms and shared spaces including bsthrooms, kitchens and lounge/dining rooms. Friendly staff and relaxing atmosphere, safe and very well maintsined.
Staff have great local knowledge and Kent and the team were very helpful with suggestions reccommendations and assistance when needed. We were also lucky to have a virw of Coronet Peak from our room.
Came in after 8pm, so night manager took care of me. He wasn't too helpful and just gave me the key and pointed to my room. I did not get any information about things to do in the city. But the rooms were ok, a lot of bugs come in at night because the windows don't have screen protectors. Can use wifi in the room but you continuously have to log in when your phone screen shuts off. Bathrooms are ok and showers are strong. Nice large kitchen and lounge.
Good mix hostel of long term and short term stays. Short walk to center of town, yet away from the noise during the night. Mulitple kitchens keep space open.
Very nice staff and free frisbee hire for the frisbee golf, which was a laugh. Beds were comfortable and bathrooms were clean. Free bike hire also, but we didn't get change to use this. Free tea and coffee, which is always nice but unfortunately no free cooking oil. Kitchens were clean and well stocked with crockery and pots and pans, not loads of space in the fridges though. Also the cleaning of the main kitchen was done around breakfast time which seemed a bit odd since. Decent enough though for our 2 night stay.
The staff were very friendly, understanding and helpful!

For long-term stays
The Flaming Kiwi is better suited to long-term guests not those of us looking for a 1 or 2-night hostel stay. There is definitely a feeling among the "residents" that you are on their turf. This also means that your roommates are probably messy since they are living there. The kitchen areas upstairs were messy while I was there and there are not enough bathrooms/showers for everyone so unless you are getting up very early, expect to wait. The beds were very comfortable, though and there are small lockers to put your valuables in. The two people who assisted me at the front desk were both very nice and helpful!
This is the perfect place to stay with a limited budget.
Our room even has a large balcony for us to chill and watch stars.
The common area is also spectacular to meet other backpackers.
The area is within walking distance to the town centre, which is a good thing since the parking space is not easy to find in Queenstown.
This is a great place to stay if you are on a budget but still want your own room. I like that it’s kind of out of the center too. The staff is wonderful....they let me store my luggage long term while I did a couple tracks and I left my tablet behind and they took their time to ship it to my final hotel so I’ll have it back before I leave. Awesome!

Hi there,
Thank you for the lovely review. We really appreciate when guests take the time to share their experiences with us. Also, very happy we could get your tablet returned to you. :)
Magnificent. Flaming Kiwi is the only real hostel in Queenstown. Perfect combination between long and short term. There is a lot of space to park cars. 3 super well equipped kitchens. The staff is super helpful. Fabio is fantastic, always cleaning the kitchens for guests' well being.
