What a wonderful place to stay- more like a home than a hotel. David and Wendy were terrific hosts. Excellent soy latte and perfect poached eggs on sourdough for breakfast. We also availed ourselves of the hot tub which takes a while to prepare, but is amazing to sit out on a cool evening and watch the spectacular lightshow of the Remarkables at sunset. Would definitely return!

We had a wonderful stay. The property manager is a great cook, he made very nice breakfast. During our stay, we had captured the southern light on the deck! That was amazing.

Fifth and last night in the lodge. We were the only guests so had the place to ourselves. Service and breakfast were excellent. The stays here did make for a memorable honeymoon.

This was our second stay at this property whilst on honeymoon. Once again, we were the only guests in the lodge. Service as previous was excellent and the breakfast was excellent also. We did use the hot tub in this instance which was nice but requires some notice and we thought it was a bit pricey at $80.

Thanks for your review Mark, unfortunately due to having to pay for 3 hours of labour time and wood costs we don't actually make that much profit off the hot tub! I'm glad you two enjoyed it!

It was a memorable stay for a memorable occasion. We were the only guests in the lodge at the time and this made it extra special. We subsequently decided to stay 3 more nights at the end of the trip. Breakfast was fantastic. Hosts were very pleasant and responsive.

We took a bit of a chance on staying slightly further out of the town, and in a boutique lodge. It paid off, the stay was incredible. Staff were wonderful, informative, helpful and efficient. The views and location were world class. We enjoyed everything about the Hidden Lodge. Thanks for having us!!

Staff member negligence results in accident
I booked this picturesque location for my solo holiday and ended up spending the whole holiday in hospital or in bed with a broken foot due to an accident that happened due to the negligence of the hotel. The stairs to my hotel room were unlit on my second night and I fell down the last few stairs and broke my foot. Not only that, the only staff member on duty was drinking a beer and making banana bread in the kitchen rather than ensuring that the hotel was adequately lit for the evening and ensuring the safety of guests. I wanted so much to give this hotel a great rating, but I cannot, as not only did this happen to ruin the holiday, but the hotel management refused to take any responsibility for their negligence. If this were a bigger hotel chain, this would have been handled immediately. Instead I have been out of pockets thousands of dollars in medical expenses and didn't have a holiday at all. This is a good lesson to not book a small private hotel, because the after-care is just not professional.

Fabulous weekend
Claudia and the team contribute to make this a gem in Queenstown. We only stayed the weekend but the friendly welcome and superb quality of the accommodation made us wish we had stayed longer. this is a 5* plus location.

The name of the property says it all. It feels like you are in the middle of nowhere on a mountain lake, but you are only minutes from the town center.

Hidden Lodge too good to remain "hidden"......
I had the most amazing experience. Outstanding customer service from Claudia, Chris, Laura, Lisa, and Kristen. From the time I booked to my arrival was first class. Its the little things and attention to detail that make a stay memorable and I will definitely return and bring friends next time. Hot towel rack in the bathroom, electric blankets, complimentary snacks and drinks in your room, hot breakfast with eggs cooked to order. Fresh made yogurt with granola, fresh fruit was awesome as well. The view from my room could have been mistaken for a postcard. I'll be back!!!

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and we were welcomed with prolonged talking on arrival. We just wanted to get our rooms but instead got an extended tour/talk. We enjoyed elements of our stay such as the wonderful Lisa who always had a smile on her face and seemed genuinely keen to help. The beautiful brownies, antipasto platters, stocked mini bar fridge (except one of the bottles of beer was expired - yes I double checked to make sure I wasn't looking at the manufacturing date) and yummy breakfasts. There is a key problem with the business model of Hidden Lodge. Having the single staff member that is rostered on (or at times 2) be the front office, chef, gardener,cleaner etc. The look of being completely worn out was written all over their faces, and it made it hard for us to fully relax and ask for things we needed. This would not be a problem at other hotels, as the staff would be there 24/7 to assist. The second issue we had was the lack of basic amenities you expect in any accommodation, i.e. a microwave. You cannot heat any food up by yourself without the help of the staff. They also lock the microwave at night, so on my honeymoon, while paying prices reflective of a 5 star service, I had to use the oven to heat up my food myself. Additionally, the assistant manager Chris while friendly and mostly willing to help, sometimes had a tone which was not always professional, and it appeared the standard of service at the start of our stay quickly dwindled.

Had a fantastic stay here during April! The staff were fantastic and willing to go that extra mile for you (they left a small Easter egg hunt in our room!), the facilities immaculate, including a sauna, wood fire hot tub and gym. Easily the best place we stayed in NZ

Great hotel in a quiet location a bit our of queen
Great location, lovely room. Great service. Very friendly. Whilst out room the Wha Suite was lovely, it is located under the Kitchen so expect to hear noise in the morning. The only other slight negative, it wasn't the greatest breakfast we had. But overall a great stay

Hidden Lodge is a superb place! Exemplary in every way. Outstanding hospitality from Claudia and her team; beautiful and sprawling building with large guest quarters and spacious, warm common areas; very convenient yet extremely private location just 6-7 minutes from town; and absolutely spectacular views: the best we found anywhere around Queenstown. A magnificent experience in a magical part of New Zealand. Our very highest recommendation.

Perfect couple getaway
After looking for a hotel with a difference in Queenstown, I finally found Hidden lodge and its promising reviews. Well it was everything I expected and more. The service from the manager Claudia and her 2helpers was the best. Nothing is a hassle to them and they want to make your stay as relaxing as possible. The bedding and showers are straight from heaven. There is fabulous views from every window which you don’t get from most hotels in Queenstown. The lounge is perfect to relax in by the fire and the wood fire hot tub was probably the highlight for us. We were happily surprised by a complementary wine and cheese platter on both evenings before heading into town for dinner, only 5min drive. Would definitely go again.

Hidden Lodge is spectacular!
The views are from our room and from the dining and living areas are amazing. Lucia and Lucia (yes, two Lucias, both from Uruguay) took great care of us and the food and wine was fantastic! This is definitely where we will stay when we return to Queenstown. Hidden Lodge is far enough away from the main Village area that it stays peaceful and quiet but is close enough to all the action if you want that. I could sit in the living room or on the deck for hours, just watching the light changing on the mountains and lake! Enjoyed our conversations with the other very interesting guests too.

Amazing place conveniently hidden just outside the bustle of downtown with magnificent lake views. Claudia the GM runs her place with German efficiency combined with New Zealand friendliness. Very personable service from the moment you arrive. Nothing seems to be a problem. Breakfasts are wonderful, wholesome, healthy and hearty. Tip: all rooms are excellent but Wha is the special, particularly if you want easy access to the lovely grounds. Highly recommended!

Such a lovely place.
Quiet location, gorgeous view, very comfortable rooms, breakfast consists of eggs from chickens at the lodge (hidden down the side of the building) and Claudia makes the bread, and also ham from the owner's farm nearby. Claudia the caretaker is such a genuine, friendly, easy going person. There are plenty of comfortable common areas to relax in, a fireplace, books, dvds etc if you want some quiet time. The bedroom has a view and is soft and the bathroom has a deep bath. There is also a spa, sauna and small gym onsite. Would love to stay there again.

Fantastic stay!!!
The hostess/innkeeper Claudia made our stay fantastic. She was so friendly. She gave outstanding counsel on what things to do and see, as well as which restaurants to dine. Her breakfasts were outstanding. The view from our room was amazing. And the place is indeed "hidden" and very quiet/peaceful. We will definitely stay there next time we are in Queenstown.

Best Lodge ever!
Our best stay in NZ this trip! Extremely homely and cosy place, well decorated interior and superb bedroom. Claudia was extremely helpful in servicing and was so warm to us. Would not stay anywhere else in Queenstown! If we do come back, will definitely make it a point to return:) Location is also perfect. Just 5 minutes out on the road to glenorchy, it's extremely convenient to get into the heart of Queenstown without getting caught in any jams! The views from the living room are also to die for. My gf and I enjoyed the place so much we spent the evening lounging by the fire admiring the mountain backdrop. The hidden-ness of the lodge made it very special, but yet not hard to find! The dogs were lovely and the experience overall TOP notch.

A short drive just outside the Queenstown CBD.
A clean and comfortable Lodge. Staff made you feel very welcome and helpful. Fantastic scenic views sipping wine by the fireplace.
