Five Stars!! Absolutely Amazing!! Total Solitude!!
We couldn't have asked for a better getaway. Bali Temple was exactly as advertised. A complete sanctuary away from all of the hustle and bustle of daily life. We were looking for an escape and that's exactly what we found. Rachaelle was an incredible host. We highly recommend and will definitely be back!

This listing is pretty misleading, in the following ways: - The property is only the top floor of a house and this is not indicated anywhere in the listing details - The location is pretty remote with not many options for food or otherwise nearby - The unit itself is a fair distance from the water, so the "160 Degree Ocean Views" description is quite an embellishment - The property is very close to neighbors who, when we arrived, were playing music loud enough to hear inside on the unit We discovered these aspects only upon arrival for what was to be a romantic getaway and it left us scrambling to find other accommodations. Hands down this is the worst rental experience that I've ever had. Buyer beware.

This is one person's view and it is not an accurate reflection of my property. I encourage anyone reading this to scroll down and read the dozens of 5-star reviews. The Guest leaving this review did not stay at my home and he received a 100% refund. Guest wanted to cancel his reservation 3 days prior to his arrival. Since there was no reason for canceling such as a health or safety issue, his cancellation request was not granted. As a courtesy, Host offered to rebook the nights and refund the amount that Host could re-book. The Guest did not reply to the Host's offer. Instead, he claims to have shown up at the property but left. He did not attempt and contact Host to resolve his issue. This property offers 18 years of care for this special land and its sacred location, along with the Host's integrity and thoughtfulness for Guests' well-being, and an enthusiasm to share this area of the Big Island with Guests. Guests are encouraged to contact Host in case of an emergency, and Host will do everything reasonable to work with Guests for a happy resolution. Please read the cancellation policies for any short-term rental you book.

Bali Temple is WONDERFUL and we highly recommend it.
This is perhaps the nicest short-term rental we’ve ever stayed in, & we’d book it again in a heartbeat! It was clean, spacious, & beautifully decorated. The towels & other amenities are high quality. Someone commented on dealing w/ a portable A/C and fans, so the ductless mini-splits (a/k/a heat pumps) must be recent. They work quickly to make temps perfectly comfortable; no need to be worried about climate control. The views were unbeatable & the location spectacular! Some mentioned that it’s a little more remote, which is true. That was a plus for us, but if you’re looking to walk to restaurants or swimmable beaches, this wouldn’t be the location for you. Some had issues w/directions to get there, but we didn't. The directions provided are very precise & detailed; if you follow them you'll find it just fine. Others have also mentioned that the bed is high to get into–also true. If you have agility/balance issues, this might be an issue for you, especially if you’re on the shorter side. But it’s a very cool bed, & very comfortable! Our sole criticism of Bali Temple is the trash situation. You’re instructed to take it to a transfer station, which isn’t open every day (& wasn’t the day we left.) This doesn’t seem like something you should have to do in a short-term rental. OTOH we were happy to see instructions for putting your compost in a compost pile. We compost at home & always regret putting veggie scraps in the trash while on vacation. We stayed 3 days in early May 2023.

There is a lightweight step stool located in the closet next to the bed for your convenience. Yes, the bed is higher off the floor than a typical bed. It is a wonderful bed once you are in it! I do request my guests take their rubbish to a transfer station when it is possible (for some it is not, for a variety of reasons such as early departures), and there are a number of locations to choose from, right off a main road. I will post the locations for incoming guests. See you soon!

The location and property were gorgeous. The views were once in a lifetime, but the directions were vague and the surrounding area is NOT a tourist location. Do not book this VRBO without doing a little research on the climate reguarding tourists on the big island, but over all a beautiful landscape.

Serenity Now
One of the best Vrbo’s we’ve every stayed at! Magical, quite and peaceful! The view is amazing and the seclusion just enough. So much to do on this island! National Park is a must. We went slightly north of Hilo and visited the botanical gardens a must as well, went to Kona for the day. Did the Abalone farm tour cool! The city of Pahoa has many good restaurants to select from. Rachaelle’s home was well stocked and we enjoyed many dinners with a gorgeous lava/ocean view! The bed was very comfortable as were the many daybeds. Rachaelle was quick in communication. We highly recommend Bali Temple…you won’t be disappointed!

Great views with this well furnished house, but hard to locate!
The views from the deck were great and this house is very close to a well known black sand beach (though be aware it is a nude beach). Only issues that we encountered were 1) actually locating the house - directions were given in advance but the Google pin did not work for us, although our GPS did work fine in the remote location. 2) The bathroom towels smelled as though they were used on a dog. 3) The water pressure in the shower was minimal. Otherwise, the stay was great! Bed was luxurious and the sound of waves were wonderful!

Solitude and beauty abound!
The property is well-loved as evidenced by its pristine condition. The house and grounds could not have been any cleaner. The location was unbeatable for a quiet escape, only a short walk to the shore and a view of the ocean from the lanai. The house is located in an isolated neighborhood but not eerily alone. Some noise from the downstairs unit was heard in the early morning (voices and the moving of furniture) but not enough to be irksome. I truly loved the space and the zen-like feel. The calm quiet environment was soothing. I hope to return again and will definitely rebook this exact unit!

House of the rising sun!
Our family stayed at this amazing place for 2 days Aug. 31-Sept 2. We enjoyed a fire on the lava at night, running to the lava leasing to the beach near Robert’s market, swimming at the black sand beach, visiting fissure 8 and any 2018 lava eruption destruction, watching the best sunrise over the Pacific Ocean, the sunsets and sipping our coffee on the lanai. This is a place we would definitely stay at again. The host is knowledgeable and super friendly. Thank you!

It is very attractive, wonderfully decorated, and the balcony views to the ocean are amazing. There is lots of space to move around, flop on one of several couches for an afternoon nap, and the bed was very comfortable. Also, the Bluetooth speaker was very nice. There is no grill. The owner sent very detailed directions and information about the unit and surrounding area. We enjoyed our time in it.

Gorgeous locale, superb scenery !
Gorgeous, sunny locale - windows all around and big, open house. Definitely hot though (not to be a broken record, as most reviews mention this), as the morning sun comes right up and beats into all those windows. The portable a/c def works decently though in combo with the fan to blow around the air. We found that if we left the sliding glass doors open all day (there’s screen doors on them) while we were away that it wasn’t so hot when we got back later in the day. You can walk right on the lava fields out to the ocean and watch the waves crash in. Saw all kinds of crabs on the rocks too. We had the luxury of a bright full moon almost all the nights we stayed, and it shined right overhead. Loved the shower and double sinks. So many options for lighting too in the evening - all kinds of switches to turn on different options. Hope you love geckos - super fun to see so many, and they were quite entertaining on the balcony. Sometimes they were found in the house! Others mentioned the stove/cooking situation too - there’s nothing over the stove, like an exhaust fan, and you will smoke up the place if you’re not careful. Use the standing fan (seriously we moved the fan around a lot) to propel any smoke or heat right out the nearest window. The sounds of the night are incredible - idk how to describe it. All in all it was magical. Can’t believe we got to stay here. The bed IS high (but oh so comfy!) - I’m short and had to climb the bed frame to get into it! Pillows are super soft. Host also has beach chairs and a cooler in the closet (didn’t realize this til last day). There’s also games inside in some of the many drawers/decor. Huge book shelf of books and trinkets. Very well-appointed in every way. There is no DVD player as listed, nor did we find the grill (not sure if listing is updated to reflect this). Sad to leave this once-in-a-lifetime spot. Perfect for a couple.

We had a wonderful stay at the Bali Temple. Beautifully appointed and everything we needed, comfortable, and big sliding windows on all sides to take in the beauty of this place on earth. Rachelle sent her contact info with very detailed instructions on how to get there (pay attention : ) and information on things to do in the area prior to our stay however no one was there upon check in (or at any other time during our stay) which happened to work out ok for us because we had no problems whatsoever.

Very nice property, tastefully appointed and with a fantastic view of the lava fields and the ocean beyond. Easy and well worth It to walk out to the cliffs. Very quiet, not really near anything but that’s the point. Note the bed is about four feet off the floor but it is very comfy. Only caveat—no coffee, which despite the clear advice to buy groceries on the way in still surprised us.

Yes, Bali Temple is definitely a place where you can get away from it all, and be in a rural beautiful Hawaii setting with the ocean. It is not the typical tourist location that many people think of when they think of Hawaii. Pahoa is 10 minutes away, Hilo is 40 minutes away.

Overall nice and clean property to stay with a walk to ocean cross the lava field. The property is close to the neighbor, one can easily hear the kids talking from the next door, but still with enough space to enjoy yourself inside and outside. As some of previous comments mention, the AC in the master bedroom is not power enough to cool the room, the patio furniture could use a bit more love. Really comfortable bed except for a bit too high for the short person. Easy walk to farmer's market and the beach park, very enjoyable stay.

Let me start off by saying the place was super clean, great job!!! We really enjoyed our stay pretty well stocked even better now seeing as it was our last stay on island we left all our extra supplies. You can tell the owner cares about what people have said in the reviews cause there is a nice new knife set microwave etc. that I've seen people complain about in the past. Reasons I didn't give it a perfect rating... 1 ac isn't big enough for the area very warm especially if your cooking on the gas range. 2 the curtains are fairly see through and some are tough to shut, and with the amount of windows looking out on the lava/ocean you kinda feel like your in a fish bowl. 3 the address listed on vrbo is wrong you have to follow directions from host, address listed brought us like 10 mins away down some backwoods rd with torched card out front. The bed was VERY comfortable, being on our honeymoon and not having a TV was a nice way to mentally check out and enjoy each other's time, the balcony over looking the lava and ocean was absolutely beautiful. Very pleased overall!

After making payment and receiving confirmation reply from the host a month before our arrival, We were given access codes and directions to property. Upon check in and entering property, we were surprised to find a friend of the owner already staying at the property and the host unaware of our reservation. We found this to be incredibly unprofessional considering all the COVID precautions Hawai’i has in place. But most importantly it put the health and safety of our family at risk. Icing on the cake, this was our honeymoon....needless to say it didn’t go as planned. The host did offer to house us elsewhere on the property, but at that point we simply didn’t feel safe on the property.

The property was beautiful and the scenery was even better. We loved being able to see and hear the ocean. It was quiet and we loved the night time sounds of the coqui frogs. OMG - awesome won't describe it.
As frequent travelers, this property was one of our favorites of all time. Magnificent views, fabulously furnished, clean as a whistle. The spectacularly comfy king sized bed on giant frame made it hard to get out of bed each day. Secluded and safe... this location is right on the shore only separated by the 1992 lava flow. We explored the coastline and the unreal lava patterns, rocky shore, and black sands. On our third day - we were treated to the most beautiful sunrise over the ocean. We LOVED Bali Temple and recommend it to anyone staying on the Hilo side of the big island.

This is a perfectly appointed property sitting on the edge of a decades old lava flow! You feel immersed in the creation of this part of Hawaii! Rachaelle's attention to detail, consideration of every comfort, ease of use, and maximization of the incredible site; make this a unique and simply wonderful property. Our stay was 3 weeks and our hostess ensured we knew of all the wonderful neighborhood 'happenings'. You Can See Forever
The landscape is truly a stunning and rugged panorama. Awakening to sunrise, watching the impossibly blue Pacific reach out to the horizon beyond the enormous lava bed, and night gazing at stars that you won’t see if you are an urban dweller. We were also fortunate enough to watch the moon wax full though the palms. Although our host was very gracious and attentive to our questions, there is some much-needed attention that should be accorded the property to make it even better yet. Although the listing does make mention that there is air conditioning, it is in the form of a movable floor unit on casters in the bedroom that vents to the outside. We would usually turn the AC off when we awoke and let the daily breeze in through the open windows, then would turn it back on once the temperature rose to the 84 to 86-degree range. Most days this happened in a matter of just 2-3 hours. The only operative ceiling fan was also in the bedroom; the two floor fans available could not adequately move the air in the rest of the space. For some reason that ever-present lovely breeze flowed around the property like water around a rock with very little entering through the open windows and deck doors. For the most part it was always cooler outside than in. While attempting to place the fans in more desirable locations, we also discovered that there were several receptacles that were not operable. In addition, several light fixtures near and in the kitchen area (2 under cabinet and the pendant fixture over the stove/bar) were not working. Also, the one floor lamp had no workable receptacle near it. We avoided using the hot halogen ceiling/track lights and tended to keep things rather dim in the evening in an attempt to keep the heat down. We’re also people who cook, which, unfortunately, added to the heat. Rather than have someone come by and attempt to address these issues, we chose to just try to make it work. We wanted to spend time in this amazing place without feeling as though we had to leave every day to keep cool. We made it work as best we could but, try as we may, the space didn’t prove very comfortable for writing, reading or simply sitting and reflecting. This applies to most of the furniture as well, excluding the wonderful and the deck chairs on the ground level deck are much more conducive to relaxing outside in that breeze.

We truly enjoyed our stay in this exquisite, peaceful home! It was so incredibly beautiful and we were able to decompress and restore our inner peace. The minute you drive into the drive way you are enchanted by its beauty. The sounds of nature, the ocean, and the tree frogs were enchanting... We only stayed a week but the memories will be with us a lifetime. We will definitely book again with Rachelle and her magical Bali Temple! We loved our experience! Thank you Shelly and John

Love to Bali Temple
We had a great time at Bali Temple. It was very relaxing, and we loved exploring the lava rock and watching the sunrises and sunsets from the balcony. It is quite tucked away and perfect if you are looking for a romantic place secluded from the normal vacation spots.

An extra fan would’ve been really great to get a cross draft. It was pretty hot In the bedroom at night for sleeping. Whatever the swamp cooler thing was only culinary of about 1 foot around it. Other than that it was an exceptional stay. Wonderful property ,beautifully appointed,Very comfortable seats in bed and pillows. Great spot

Incredible experience.
One of my favorite places I’ve ever visited. This property is very special. You won’t find it anywhere else. The location, the views, the peaceful ambiance, the styling.. I’m usually up early and wanting to go, go, go.. the tranquility of this property made me content to just relax and take in the experience. And the stargazing is incredible!! Rachaellle is a wonderful host. Communication and advice was perfect. I hope to be back soon!!

Beautifully decorated and amazing views!
This was the last destination on our 3 island tour for our Hawaiian honeymoon, and it was by far our favorite and the best way to end our trip! The Bali Temple is so beautifully decorated, we kept finding new details the whole time during our 4 night stay. The con's we had are minimal compared to the pro's this place offers! 1. It took us 2 days to realize there was no television....something that did NOT bother us at all! Just plan accordingly if this will be a problem for you. We were too busy enjoying the view, sleeping in the amazingly comfortable bed and being tourists. 2. There was also not a microwave. This was truly our biggest complaint. We made a few things for breakfast and ate most dinners out. We wanted to warm leftovers up and coffee, but made due with the oven. This would in no way keep us from coming back here! WE LOVED IT! 3. The spa tub had been replaced with a walk-in shower. We love to soak and relax and were a little disappointed, but the shower was huge and nice. We made up for it with relaxing in the amazing 4-poster bed! From the moment we walked in, we felt transported to another place! It's how I imagined my honeymoon to Hawaii should be! The decor, the LAVA field, the sound of the ocean, the bed, the ambience! We walked on the lava field down to the ocean each night. And enjoyed the sunsets and sunrises from there and the lanai. We also loved our friendly visitors, the geckos. This place IS out of the way. It's about 30 mins to Hilo. But the Lava field is amazing! It's like no where else on earth. It's truly a one of a kind experience!

Far exceeded expectations!
This place is an unbelievable paradise. The view and surroundings are spectacular. The backyard opens into a new lava field that is perfect to explore and enjoy the endless private oceanfront. The house is setup in a beautiful Bali theme with a brand new kitchen and a lanai that is priceless to sit on and enjoy from sunrise to sunset. The home manager is very friendly and helpful! Highly recommend! 🤗🌺

Beyond expectations and would stay again
The perfect honeymoon experience. To avoid sounding like a broken record we'll just confirm all the previous positive reviews. Off the beaten path, this place is perfect for those with a sense of adventure that are willing to explore one of the most beautiful places on the planet. The owner Rachaelle is quick to respond to any questions and is a wealth of knowledge on anything "Big Island". We will be back and will spend more than a week. It's just not enough time........
