A great location for accessing the north and south shores and of course the Maui upcountry right in the back yard. A Hidden Oasis on the Island
Stay here! The location is a little off the beaten path, but let's be honest, you'll be driving the Road to Hana anyway (If you are looking to do the back half of the Road to Hana, this location is great for an early start going counter-clockwise [stop at Grandma's Coffee House]). The drive to Kahului, Lower Paia, Kihei, and the vistas on the way are all worth it. Please, stay here and enjoy the retreat. My fiancé and I stayed here for four nights on the first half of a trip to Maui with my parents before their arrival, and if we could have stayed here the whole time, we both agree we would have. Lori was kind, communicative, tidy, and made us feel like we were family. Our pantry was stocked, the grill was always ready for us to use when we made breakfast in the cool morning breeze, the cozy space was spruced up when we left in a hurry in the mornings to explore Kula and Keokea and the rest of Maui. At the higher altitude, mornings & evenings are comfortably cool, allowing you to keep your windows open and enjoy a breeze, no air conditioning required (November visit). The upcountry areas are rich with history, people, culture, and explorable areas. Pukalani, Makawao, and Paia all provided unique places to discover outside of the well-traversed Kihei. While we were here, we found several locations for Live Music (all genres), creative spaces & studios, distilleries & wineries, local theatre, & lesser social-media'd but still incredible food. Thank you again, Lori!

Gorgeous upcountry gem
Keokea is truly a magical place, and Lori’s jewel is an oasis in an ideal location for those who want a quiet, peaceful spot away from the tourist crowds. Every need was taken care of, including some I didn’t think of (she has truly thought of *everything*) and I had a wonderful week. Highly recommended!

We were astonished at the level of service that was offered. "Full service" included daily laundry and cleaning. The beautiful studio apartment was stocked with a variety of foods that we enjoyed. The private outdoor area provided a place to relax. The location was far removed from the crowded resort areas, so we were better able to enjoy the natural environment of Maui. The Kula Botanical Gardens were nearby, as was Grandma's Coffee House. At 3000 feet elevation, this Upcountry location was in the perfect climatic zone. A walk around the neighborhood afforded views of Maalaea Bay.

Nice place for a refurbished garage
The room is nice and there are positive amenities. No HVAC unit or even a small fire place so it gets pretty cold in January at night. Owner is nice but does move personal belongings around and seems a little OCD about where items, windows, etc. “have to go”. Wouldn’t stay again but it is nice for a couple nights.

In Hawaii - a guest-suite and or guest house/cottage is called an "Ohana" - which in Hawaiian language means "family" home.

Perfect mountain escape.
Lori is an absolute pleasure. The unit is tucked in the perfect spot. Upcountry is the way to go to visit the island. Easy access to most of the island without feeling stuck I. The middle of a tourist trap. Go barefoot in the unit. The rugs are soft. Make a cup of coffee and catch the sunrise views. Poor a glass of wine and catch sunset. You'll never tire of the views from around the neighborhood. 10 out of 10.

Upcountry bliss
Where to start? Lori has put so much thought and effort into creating a space where you can relax and enjoy the serenity of all that upcountry has to offer. The private patio entry with beautiful orchids, comfy furniture, gas stove and cooking amenities was the perfect place to prepare and enjoy breakfast every morning in the cool upcountry air. Lori being the ultimate host stocked the pantry with so many goodies we didn’t need to go shopping - it was all there! Inside the unit: so clean and cozy. Big king bed + smaller foldout futon for a child (or a shorter adult like my niece). No air conditioning but you don’t need it since you’re in the cool upcountry air. I’m not sure why but I didn’t experience any mosquitos which was fantastic! It’s summer now so we brought in a fan from in-laws when coming back from a day of adventuring and set it at the open doorway in the evening to quickly circulate the warm air out. In retrospect we could’ve simply asked Lori for this but didn’t want to bother her. Bathroom stocked with anything you need for shower or relaxing bath. Towels for bath provided as well as for beach. Beach toys, boogie board, umbrella, chairs provided as well. Lori was just a quick text away and so responsive I felt like if there was something we needed we could just ask her and she would accommodate us. The neighborhood was so quiet with little to no car traffic. My niece’s favorite thing to do was walk 2 minutes down the street and to the left to enjoy the spectacular upcountry sunsets. Even my wife who grew up in Kula commented on how gorgeous the view was. Even if we didn’t have family in Kula to hang out with my mom would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thank you Lori for providing such a wonderful environment to enjoy upcountry beauty. ❤️

Pampered Upcountry
Our host Lori pampered us during our relaxing 9 day stay at this Upcountry Maui apartment. Situated just below the Haleakala cloud ceiling the area is lush and agricultural. The summit is just over an hour away. You will not find a cleaner place anywhere. 5 stars for cleanliness is not enough. Lori tries hard to see that the apartment is stocked with whatever you may need. Fresh towels and laundry service every day. Just come and enjoy Maui and the Upcountry view of the island. She tries to maximize your vacation time. Thank You So Much Lori! K&B

FULL SERVICE PARADISE!!!
Lori’s paradise is a true JEWEL! As soon as you enter into her property, you feel in peace with your surroundings. The outside area is designed and decorated as if you were asked to relax into a lounge chair after a very expensive spa… Every detail has been thought through so you can relax and take either your breakfast, lunch or dinner and enjoy the beauty of the mountains. When you enter into the room, every piece of furniture is elegant and has its purpose. The pantry is full of good food that Lori makes sure to fill with your favorite food or drinks every day. As for the bathroom, it is also amazingly well decorated and has everything you can dream of for bath or shower. Very nice bathrobe and slippers are provided to enjoy every moments spent at Lori’s guest house. Lori is so attentive to all your needs, she makes sure you are truly enjoying your vacation into her guest house and does not want to do ANYTHING!!! No washing of any kind, she takes care of everything… FULL SERVICE PARADISE!!! Plus Lori put in our disposition all the things you need to enjoy the beach! My husband and I enjoyed every moment at Lori’s house and were sad to leave the place. The mountains are beautiful and the sunset is to die for! We were so glad to have met Lori and her little paradise. Hope we can see her again when she visits New York! I would highly recommend Lori’s paradise to friends and family!

Hands down the best stay I've had at any property. Lori was an amazing host in every way. We really enjoyed this area of the island, specifically for cycling. Nice mountain stay with an exceptional host
Our stay in this delightful cabin was the highlight of our trip to Maui. This cozy, comfortable cabin in the Haleakala mountain served as the perfect launching point for our adventures to the summit and other activities such as horseback riding, paragliding etc that were available to us. I would be remiss not to mention Lori. When we arrived in Maui, the rains had disrupted the water supply in Kula and we stayed in town in Lahaina the first couple of days. Lori kept us informed every day and kept the suite waiting for us the whole time. When we checked in, we were delighted to see that she had decorated the second bed with dolls, provided crayons, and beads, cute blankets, and towels. She had designed the whole space for my daughter. She was overwhelmingly kind and generous, and was ever responsive to our periodic calls and texts. She became more than a host, and part of our family. We were sad to leave at the end of our trip and say goodbye.

Amazing host!!
Thank you Lori for an unforgettable experience. Our family of three were welcomed and treated as family. Everything was better than expected. The room was very spacious, comfortable and private. our 13 month old toddler even had a carton of whole milk ready just within an hour of notice before arrival and brand new toys that were bought specifically just for him. Lori made sure that place was safe for him to play by covering electrical outlets and removing reachable glassware. Everyday, after a long day of hiking and sightseeing, we came back to a cleaned room with fresh towels, washed clothes, and filled our bellies with a fully stocked fridge of wine, seltzers, cheese, fresh eggs, water, and snacks. We came for the beach, waterfalls and mountain but wished that we could have stayed much more for the hospitality. I would recommend my family and friends to stay here knowing that they would absolutely enjoying their stay.

Kick back and relax!
Lori has a special place waiting for you in the upcountry of Maui. A comfy and restful spot to come back to after a day of activity or exploring. Lori is a full service host and works really hard to make your stay comfortable. She tends to your dishes daily, does a load of laundry for you if needed, and stocks your pantry with some eggs, bread, fruit or other items so your mornings are enjoyable and relaxing. It's not the kitchenette you'll find in a condo, but you can prepare just about any meal. Very clean. Great bathroom. We really enjoyed our 5 nights at Lori's!!

Over the top satisfaction
Lori is AMAZING! Her place was our first stop before Kauai. She spoiled us rotten with laundry service (fragrance free at our request), fun drinks, plenty of water, snacks, surprise treats, and a lavender epsom salt for a hot soak in the large and comfortable tub after a long agonizing hike. She supplied plenty of food, coffees, teas, condiments etc. We chose to cook only twice but the arrangements she has for cooking are fantastic. Lori was very helpful at sharing Maui secret places to see that offered views and experiences to our desires. She was very easy to communicate with. The bed was the most comfortable bed we have ever slept on. Everything is very clean and in great condition- not worn down and scuffed up. Our only complaint is that she would not take us up on our offer to travel to Kauai to spoil us for the second half of our trip. Our stay with Lori was truly one of the best experiences we have ever had outside of our own home. The location is a bit far from beaches but it was PERFECT for us as we LOVED the cooler evenings and beautiful Up Country. There are also many places to hike within 20-30 minutes from her home. If you’re traveling to multiple islands- save the best for last or you may be grossly disappointed like us. Thank you Lori for showing us a lot of aloha and love.

Fantastic upcountry getaway
Spent 3 fabulous nights here - enjoying the hikes, cool temps, and cool vibe of Maui upcountry. The room is ample and very well appointed, and comes complete with good coffee, breakfast foods, yummy snacks, a lovely private lanai (patio). Lori is the perfect host, and will tend to your every need. While many folks think just of Maui beaches, if you miss the Upcounty you have missed some real Maui magic.

Lori is one of THE best hosts out there!! She is an absolute sweetheart, SO attentive and proactive, one of the most hospitable hosts ever. She was so very sweet in constantly getting us amazing local fruits, treats, drinks, and breakfast items, asking us what we'd like, and even offering to do our laundry!!!! Just outstanding. The property is beautiful and FULLY equipped, and the location in Kula is one of the most beautiful on the island!

Hospitality beyond all expectations
We loved everything about our stay. Lori is the most kind and thoughtful host. Knowing in advance we were bringing our infant, Lori stocked up on items we would need, including baby wipes and swaddles. She even bought a bassinet and infant bath seat. Lori also made available stuffed animal toys, which she placed around the room for our infant to explore and to play. Upon entering the unit, one of the first things that caught our eye was the beautiful fruit platter with strawberry papaya, apple bananas, a pineapple and many other fruits. The pantry and fridge were stocked with everything we needed for cooking breakfast and light meals. This included waffle/pancake mixes, fresh fruit, organic eggs (which she restocked in the middle of the week), dried pasta, pasta sauces, dips, crackers, chips and whole coffee beans. For making coffee, there is a burr grinder, a french press, and a brewing machine. The fridge was also stocked with juices, milk, half and half, and a bottle of wine. All were included in the rental fee. For more substantial meals, we used the gas range and grill on the patio. All the utensils and cookware were available, so we could cook quality dinners when we didn't feel like eating out. We REALLY enjoyed the patio. It is adorned with her orchid collection. There are two loungers we used to sunbathe in. Since yoga mats were available, my wife also used the patio for her morning practice. Lori provides housekeeping daily according to the guests' wishes. She makes the place spotless, but sprinkles with surprises such as an orchid flower between the shampoo and body wash bottles. She also cleans the dishes/utensils and laundry. The house is situated in a cute neighborhood in Keokea. It is great if you want to use this as a base to explore Kula and Haleakala. It is less windy here than many parts of Maui. It is lush yet less rainy than the northeast shore. After this trip, it has become one of our favorite places to stay. We will certainly be back.

Our stay in the Jewel of Keokea was beyond expectations. Our hosts were extremely attentive and provided us with all that we could ever need and more. The suite was extremely clean and the hosts provided full service, we did not have to worry about a thing. Most will seek to stay at the beach resorts but we found much pleasure in staying in the mountains of upcountry Maui. There are convenient restaurants, activities, and experiences in the area that you don't find on other parts of the island. We were able to travel to each corner of the island with ease, we found that staying in the upcountry made our drives much easier actually. It is right off of the highway and an easy drive from the airport. The weather was beautiful the entire day and the view spectacular. I don't think any other hotel or BNB stay I've had has competed with this one. Lori is a beautiful soul and we are so grateful that we chose this spot as our home for the week on Maui. Our stay would not have been the same if we had not stayed in the Jewel of Keokea, the sweet Maui Escape. We highly recommend this suite for both couples and small families, all of your needs will be met and you will leave Maui with a great stay experience.

Getaway in paradise
Excellent excellent excellent. Lori is a fantastic host. I can not think of one thing to complain about. The place is perfect - very clean, comfortable, private deck, and just so relaxing. We arrived to a fully stocked fridge (amazing!) and Lori even did our laundry daily. It truly was so stress free. Maui isn’t just all about the beaches. The mountains are another world. We slept with the windows and doors open and woke up to perfect temperatures every day and the blissful sounds of nature and birds chirping. You should not hesitate to stay here. We will definitely return, no question about it. Thank you so much Lori. It was the best VRBO stay we’ve had.

Listen, I don’t even want to tell you all how incredible this stay is, because I don’t want it to be booked up if I visit again, but I will. First of all, Lori is an incredible human and will go above and beyond to make your stay perfect. She puts her heart and soul into this place, and has thought of every detail/amenity, and then some—I promise. The space is beautiful, private, and every square inch is thoughtfully utilized. There’s a mini kitchen/pantry, outdoor cooking area, coffee bar, two closets and the outdoor garden/lounge area is perfect for morning coffee. Honestly words aren’t enough, this stay blew my husband and I away, and was easily the best stay we had in Maui.

Absolutely Amazing!
The property being in the mountains of the island was very peaceful and quiet, set up above the ocean with beautiful views. Lori is an amazing hostess that made our vacation absolutely enjoyable, as she tended to and thought of all the details. Staying in Kula felt like a home atmosphere and we were between the beach and road to Hana, so the drive was short no matter which way we went. It was cooler and easier to breathe in the mountains, only 20 minutes from the airport. I woud stay in Kula over the resorts every time I visit the island, and Lori made it so we never had to take a day off to wash clothes or anything. We cooked some meals and went out for some, picked up take out on the hiking days when we were exhausted. The property is beautiful and our stay was everything we could imagine and more. Mahalo Lori

Aloha spirit from first to last. Even before arrival Lori made our stay unforgettable. She stocked the fridge with our favorite items and treated us to local coffee and condiments. Bath amenities, robes & slippers, beach stuff... all available for our use. She even did our laundry! Kula/Keokea area is beautiful, lush and laid back. Hiking areas, local farms, and proximity to Mt. Haleakala a big plus. We had a wonderful time up here.

Highly recommended spot in up country
My family and I had such a lovely time staying here. It accommodated my husband, myself, and our young son perfectly. Lori is incredibly kind and accommodating, and her place is very comfortable. It has all you need for a perfect stay. Even more than I expected. The private patio really completes the space. The location was great for us because it was centrally located on the island, which allowed us to have manageable car trips to all areas for hiking, sight seeing, and going to the beach. While Lori provides amazing breakfast, drinks and snack options, there aren’t a lot of restaurants nearby so dinner required thinking ahead. I would highly recommend staying here.

Amazing place! Super clean with all that you might need (and more); the best is really Lori who really made this stay the highlight of our trip - better than any hotels we have been to. Super friendly welcome with daily checks to make sure everything is perfect for us. Greatly appreciated! Will definitely go back when we step on the island again.

A Perfect 10!
Lori’s place exceeded all our expectations! Lori is the consummate host, making sure you have everything you might need for a perfect stay. The room was gorgeous, the bed AMAZING (did I mention they bed was amazing?), and we couldn’t have asked for anything more! Although most of our activities were farther away (we were there for a wedding), we did find time to enjoy some of the local area of Kula as well. What a wonderful, charming community! Lori came in daily and made sure the room was stocked and replenished of all towels, dishes, and toiletries we may need. Her place really is first class! She completely spoiled us. Lol. She even remembered the day we were to be at the wedding and checked to see if we needed anything pressed for the event. We will definitely be back (I actually hated to leave)! This was better than any hotel stay, and the personal touch Lori adds to every little detail truly made this a memorable experience. Thanks Lori!! 💜

Our stay was perfect!
The Jewel of Keokea was the perfect stay for us in upcountry Maui. Lori was a darling host - she is truly gifted in hospitality and service! Everything was clean and comfortable, and the kitchenette was well-stocked with treats. There were plenty of towels, toiletries, beach bags, chairs, and so much more. She and her husband even provided tips and suggestions for some of the activities we were interested in doing. We highly recommend this property if you're wanting to be surrounded by beautiful scenery away from the crowds but still be close enough to enjoy the beaches and luxuries of the island. The drive is gorgeous, and you will find some great local shops and restaurants nearby. Lori, you are a 10 out of 10!

This property is located in the upcountry hills of Maui, an area we had never spent any time in. It was a great experience with spectacular views, and friendly locals. The space is just fabulous, Lori has done a fantastic job furnishing and decorating. It looked like a five star hotel room, better actually. There is a fenced private courtyard with barbeque, and super comfy chaise recliners, and several umbrellas. We were able to sunbath in complete privacy one morning then grilled some fish we had brought for lunch. All the spices, utensils and cookware were provided. Basically anything we needed -for room, beach or recommendations Lori quickly arranged for us. We had gluten free bread and muffins delivered. She even offered to wash our clothes for us which we really appreciated. The bed was huuuge and comfy, and we slept really well. She's also connected to many of the local adventure activities and was able to get us a discount for paragliding. We've stayed at a lot of vacation properties hosted in homes and this was far and above the best experience. Would highly recommend and hope to return again soon.

Amazing little place tucked into the beautiful mountains! It has everything! Kitchenette well stocked with appliances and yummy local food! Host is onsite and very helpful with planning activities. Perfection in every possible way!!!
If you are considering visiting Maui and need a rental look no further. Lori will provide an absolutely perfect place for you to stay. We chose this area because we wanted to be away from the tourists but also within an easy drive of all of the sights. We got so much more than what we expected. The house is immaculate. I will admit that I am the biggest neat freak I know and this blew me away. Every little detail is so well thought out from the colors and decor to the amenities and comfort. The bed is comfortable with plenty of bedding so you will not be too hot or cold. Plenty of pillows. Plenty of outlets for electronics, room for you luggage, clothing, toiletries etc. You will not feel cramped. The closet is large with plenty of hangers and shelves. There is a mini kitchenette that would rival that of any luxury home. Delicious goodies, treats, drinks, juices, jams, crackers, etc. I imagined Lori going to the best gourmet market and stocking up on the most delicious, gourmet treats that she could find. We never went to a grocery store for a single item. I am a mom so usually "vacation" means being the mom in a different locale. No rest. Here I finally experienced what a vacation really is. I never had to grocery shop. I never did a load of laundry ( I could spend hours elaborating on how spoiled I felt but basically you put your clothes into the hamper and a little fairy (aka Lori) must arrive while you're out sight seeing and takes care of everything. You come home to find the room cleaned, the bathroom scrubbed, the bed made and your laundry washed, dried and folded and waiting for you. The kitchen has been restocked including plenty of bottled water and snacks. We arrived quite late the day we arrived and Lori greeted us with dinner!! Yeah, she's a gem and I wanted to bring her home with me! If you forget a toiletry no worries, the bathroom is fully stocked with everything you could possibly need and also everything you could possibly want to spoil yourself. There are plenty of towels and they are washed and replaced everyday. She also provides anything and everything you need to sight see. Chairs, umbrella, cooler bag, ice packs, beach towels, beach bags etc. Again, we did not have to buy a single item during our stay. Lori and Paul are the most wonderful people you'll meet. They have the best stories of their adventures and you'll want to just hang out with them if you get a chance. Highly recommend!!!!

Fabulous!
Nestled in a beautiful mountain-side neighborhood in Keokea, Maui, the pictures don’t do justice to how gorgeous and comfortable the host has made this suite and private patio garden. We wanted for nothing the host hadn’t thought of and provided. For an experience away from all the tourists but accessible to everything Maui has to offer, we highly recommend this jewel of a suite and the best most thoughtful and generous host you could ask for.
