You can't miss the 007 vibe on this beach, immortalised by Ursula Andress and that bikini – but you can chill out and explore Ian Fleming's local beach too.

Bond fan or not, James Bond Beach is somewhere you should recognise instantly. Ursula Andress emerging from these turquoise waters clad in white bikini in Dr No is more than just a Bond-film scene – it's a timeless icon. And the 007 connections don't end there. This beach is just across the road from the GoldenEye estate, where Bond author, Ian Fleming, penned 14 of his bestseller spy novels.

The beach still has its palm-fringed, white-sand good looks – though it's fair to say it's a little busier than when Ms Andress made such an impression on a certain secret agent. Now it's home to a bar, a restaurant and a water sports centre. You can hire a kayak or a wave runner, or go out in a glass-bottomed boat to get a window onto the wonderful sea-life flitting through the bay's waters.

Enjoy a close encounter with one of Jamaica's most elegant marine creatures – the stingray. Several of these beautiful animals have been gathered together at the beach's Stingray City, so you can have them serenely gliding around your legs. Just mind where you put your feet – they're not called stingrays for no reason.

The beach's bar is named after another Bond film, Moonraker, and is large enough to hold 200 people. That size is needed, because the beach is also an occasional home to some of Jamaica's finest outdoor concerts. Jazz, blues and (of course) reggae all draw in the crowds, keen to enjoy some chilling tunes in this beautiful tropical setting.

When it's not catering for outdoor gigs, the bar does a great line in freshly grilled seafood and is a great place to relax with a drink. Its beach-front location makes it a great vantage point as the sun draws near the horizon. Just order a martini (shaken, not stirred), strike a pose and watch the sun go down over James Bond Beach.
