The hotel was older (not a big deal at all) but there were zero upgrades done to the property. The doors use regular keys and there is not a deadbolt. There is a sign in the room stating that you should keep valuables in the safe… I guess they are not secure in your room. These are items I can look past. Four days into my six day stay, I get a knock on the door while taking a nap. It’s room service and she states “room service” and I politely decline and go back to napping. Five minutes later, another knock and someone is demanding I open the door. I thought it was room service so I said “no thanks” and she said “open the door now” so I quickly put on shorts and open it. She said “why are you here, this room should have been vacant as of yesterday” and my response was, “I hope not I have 3 more days” and she demands my name and says she will look into it. I checked all my online booking information and went downstairs to confirm what I have. She greets me very rudely and states that she will have to wait to talk to her Mananger but I was checked out as of the prior day. Look, I understand there are mishaps and errors but the rude tone was not called for. She also never got back to me on if everything was corrected… I had to reach out to the chat option on Expedia. The room was ok, it did smell like stagnant water but besides that, the lack of upgrades and the rude staff (just that lady, everyone else was incredible), the Royal Grove is at a great location in Waikiki.

This is a cheap hotel. Sketchy guests were always in lobby. The door to the room had a flimsy lock, the walls dirty, strong smell of mildew, many carpet stains. Given the demographic of the occupants, it did not feel safe. In Waikiki, you definitely get what you pay for. Skip this one.

Super old, the door of the bathroom wouldn’t close shut, and no parking. We had to park 15 mins away walking distance in the middle of the night surrounded by homeless. Terrible experience!!!

I was apprehensive to review my stay at this hotel because I don’t like leaving negative reviews, but I have never been so grossed out by a hotel and SO disappointed by the lack of response from housekeeping to remedy the situation. Upon my evening arrival, my sink was ancient and gross with calcium and lime build up, my shower had black and pink mold (including ALL OVER THE SHOWER CURTAIN), and there was hair on the shower walls and on the floor as well as a DIRTY TOWEL folded and hung up in the bathroom. I took photos of everything and immediately made a visit to the front desk girl who notified me that the housekeepers would visit my room tomorrow afternoon which meant I had to shower that night with the mold. I also asked to get fresh sheets one night during my stay because I got a smudge of makeup on my bed; they assured me it would be taken care of that afternoon only for me to come back to a made bed… and nothing cleaned…

Good for the price. But the bathtub is clogged, If they could fix it it’s good cuz it’s not too pricey, close to the beach even if it’s noisy early morning which is expected cuz it’s a busy area. They need a plumbing repair.

I arrived at the hotel at around 3 pm to check in. At that time, I was the only guest. The receptionist still sat and looked up, not showing any warm welcome. After I got the room number from her, I asked her where the parking was. She was still sitting and reached up to point at the paper that had been printed and pasted on the countertop with three parking spots. I asked why there were 3 points, but none had an address, so how would I know where to go? And what do you think is good one? She pointed to the second point. (see detail I was copy from the sheet on countertop: 1. Public Parking: Waikiki Banyan ($35/day or $175/week) 2. Ohia Waikiki ($30/day) - Royal Grove Special Rate 3. Kuhio Village Tower Parking ($25/day, one entry) Metered Parking: $3.00/hour (*Free from 10pm-6am) Free Parking *watch for signs indicating occasional closures 1. Ala Wai Blvd. 2. Monsarrat Ave.). I asked her how to get to that parking lot without the address (this hotel has not parking lot), and she me to turn left, then right, and turn. Oh my God! I drove and asked passersby, and it took more than 30 minutes but can’t find it. I returned to the hotel and saw her again (it was already 3:45 pm; she was talking the same as before. I told her sternly that I only needed the address, not to tell me how to get there. At this time, She gave me the address?!? I parked the car and returned to the hotel around 4:30 pm

The foyer and waiting area is classic. Bamboo chairs and sofas are pleasing to the eye and weary body. The room has a comfortable bed, and our fifth floor room had a lanai that provided a nice view of the busy street below. While not opulent, the room was completely comfortable, but my wife and I didn’t travel to Hawaii to sit in a hotel room.

The hotel is cute but old, the furniture was dated but the bed was very comfortable and the location could not be beat. Would definitely recommend to my friends. FYI I saw no roaches not a single one.

The property has cosmetic defects and fatigued linens but worth the bargain. Great area in the surroundings. Plenty of restaurants and the beach is a block away with plenty of beach rental access. Will repeat but don’t expect great service but fair service to the price paid

My room was a bit grungy on first inspection. But, I remembered the reason that I booked it is because it was the least expensive, while being located nearby Waikiki beach with both eating and shopping options nearby. I absolutely loved my beach walk, mountain run, cool down walk, stretch, shopping etc. If I have another longer layover this will be the place I choose if the price is right.

Location, location, location!! A two minute walk to Waikiki beach. This is an antiquated hotel that suited my needs perfectly. A clean bed, shower, even a small kitchen. The air conditioner is weak, but since I have lived in Hawaii before without central air conditioning I was used to it. If you’re looking for luxury three or four star hotel, this isn’t the place for you. But if you want a reasonably priced place in the heart of Waikiki, this is a great option.

The lady at the front was exceptionally professional, nice, helpful and accommodating. So 5 stars for service. The property on the other hand is extremely dirty. The bedsheets were clean, so it’s not necessarily about housekeeping either, just whoever is responsible for the property in general. Very shabby. Very.

Good position near Waikiki Beach. I noticed dirt at the bottom of headboard which did not fit the bed. It was good they had a working fridge but it did not fit where it was meant to go. But the room was fairly large.

The hotel in absolutely nasty inside. Mold all over the room and bathroom, dirty carpet, you can draw on the dust of the surfaces. The smell in a lobby and the room are awful. The place needs to be bulldozed. We ran to the hotel across the street because neither me or my husband were going to even consider staying there. Had to call Expedia to get the refund, took an hour of just trying to get someone on the line. I offered the Expedia employee the photos I took prior to leaving the nasty hotel. Unfortunately, the representative said it was unnecessary. I wish I could submit them here so everyone can view how bad it is

The place was very old and dirty. One of the air conditioners didn’t work. It’s a 1/4 mile walk to the car garage at $35 per night. They checked me in an hour late. That might be the fault of other stayer none the less I paid for check in to check out and was not discounted. I would suggest pay for a nicer place.
