A good find
Room clean with standard amenities located very close to the train station. Owners very friendly and helped put my passport my suitcase when I left it behind by accident!

Excellent location - not too far from the Pincipe station but not too close to the crowd. Room and bathroom simple and clean, very high ceiling makes it feel comfortable. Staff (may be owners) very friendly. Only downside - located 2 floors up the stairs (very long ones) with no elevator, not recommended for those with leg/knee problems with heavy luggage.

Nowhere did Expedia say that the Balbi Hotel is on the third floor of an old building without elevator. We had to climb 53 steps with our luggage. We were exhausted when we arrived at the desk.

Hotel was in an excellent location, very close to the train station and the historic area of Genoa. John was extremely friendly and helpful and gave us great recommendations for food in the area. The room was very bare bones, but clean.

Great location, friendly staff
This hotel is conveniently located a 5 minute walk from the train station and across the street from the Royal Palace Museum (which is awesome). It's one of the few hotels where the reception desk was open after 7:00. Bathroom was small but room was spacious, with a window overlooking the street. Very friendly staff! They were quite helpful showing us around and watching our bags after checkout.

Great character, perfect location!
A group of friends (couples) stayed at the Balbi Hotel for one night after a week long cruise. We chose it because it was close to the train station, and 2 of our friends had to leave for Milan the next day. We really wanted a quaint place with character but also reasonable in price, and we found it all at the Balbi. We LOVED our rooms, the ceiling paintings are even more striking in person. Dario, who was at the desk when we arrived, was absolutely wonderful. He gave us great directions to drive down to Portofino and made us feel very welcome. It was also great to have wi fii and be able to skype my family at home in the USA. At night we walked around and stopped in a great local restaurant for some good pizza and red wine. There is a small charge for breakfast however there are also places very close to pop in for great coffee, pastry, etc. It was easy for our friends to walk down the street to the train station the next morning, even with luggage. The only drawback (if you have trouble with stairs) is that there are a few flights to go up before you can check into the hotel, but well worth the effort in our opinion. What a great find for us!! Especially if you have to catch a cruise or train, perfect location!

Relaxed, historic and charmingly scruffy.
This is a laid-back, scruffy hotel in a good location close to the main railway station. It's ideal if you want to be close to the city, but aren't too bothered about being pampered.

Balbi Hotel - fab place to stay
We really enjoyed our stay at the Balbi Hotel - it's really well located only a few minutes walk from the main train station and all the city sites. The staff were very friendly and our room was beautiful ... unbelievably spacious and had a lovely feel to it. The shower was nice and powerful and the breakfast saw us through the morning. All in all it was amazing value for money and made our stay in Genoa really special. If I go back to Genoa I would most certainly stay there again. Be prepared for a bit of a hike up the stairs when you first arrive with your suitcase though!

L'hotel è al terzo piano di un palazzo storico senza ascensore in ottima posizione per raggiungere l'acquario e il porto vecchio. Gli arredi lasciano un po' a desiderare, ma il livello di pulizia è buono. l personale è cortese e disponibile, ma contrariamente a quanto scritto sul sito, la struttura non dispone di parcheggio proprio e si viene rinviati ad un parcheggio a pagamento nei pressi.

Buongiorno, la ringraziamo per aver alloggito presso il nostro hotel ma e' scritto ovunque che il garage e' convenzionato a 100mt da noi con un costo che varia dai 19 ai 21 euro.Inoltre al momento della prenotazione ,oltre a quella di expedia,vi viene inviata un'altra e-mail direttamente dal nostro addetto al booking con il dettaglio della prenotazione,come raggiungerci e i recapiti del garage con il relativo costo. Molto vicino al porto e alla stazione. Personale eccellente e camera spaziosa con additittura un salottino dove poter guardare la tv o far addormentare la bambina nel lettino che ci hanno fornito. L'unica pecca è l'assenza di ascensore, e il fatto che sia situato ad un secondo piano, cosa che non dipende da loro, essendo in un palazzo storico!

Hotel molto comodo all'acquario, camere molto ampie e pulite con bagno in stanza. Colazione normale e con personale sempre pronto a soddisfare le richieste del cliente. Perfetto anche per famiglie. Lo consiglio per un breve soggiorno.
