Ride the waves on a surfboard, take a dip in the Indian Ocean’s clear blue water, or enjoy a peaceful picnic on the terraced lawns that overlook the ocean. This is one of Western Australia’s most attractive and popular beaches. If you’re looking for the perfect place to spend a hot, lazy day at the beach, then look no further. Cottesloe Beach is an idyllic location with perfect crystal clear water, ideal for swimming and surfing. This beach is particularly family-friendly and there are plenty of facilities here aimed at children. There’s also the Surf Life Saving Club, which will give you peace of mind while your children are playing in the sea. Cottesloe first became a popular seaside resort in the late 19th century, and its reputation has remained ever since. The surfing conditions are consistently good, and the water is warm for most of the year. The best surfing breaks on this beach can be found south of the Arch Monument, easily recognisable by its huge stone sundial. If you just fancy a swim, it’s better to swim near the iconic Indiana bistro building, where currents aren’t so strong. If you have children in tow, check out the Groyne. This sheltered pocket of beach is perfect for a quiet splash away from the serious surfers. If you have fishing gear with you, you can easily throw a line and if you’re lucky, you may pull out some whiting or bream.Alternatively, if you feel like having a peek at the area’s marine life then you can hire some snorkelling gear and explore the life which resides around the protected Cottesloe Reef system. There’s a real treasure trove of marine life in this area, which you can view at close hand. There are several excellent restaurants in this area, or if you fancy a drink and some good traditional pub food, then there are several cosy pubs nearby. Cottesloe Beach is located about 11 kilometres from central Perth. You can get there by public transport or by car. Parking is free along Marine Parade.
