this is a unique location in a unique community with wonderful, friendly people. each level offers priceless views of the lake and community. very quiet, nice morning breakfast, and very reasonable dinner options. the trip to the top of the property is a must see if staying in lower portion.

This was a perfectly good hotel and we may stay again. However, it did not meet my expectations of a four-star hotel. Certain things seemed to be lacking, such as tissues in the bathroom, a dedicated bathmat (though plenty of hand towels to use as a substitute), adequate pillows (because flat and hard we needed two each, but there were only three in the room not four and that was because we happened to be put in a triple and could use the pillow from the single bed), and I noticed that the mirror and light fittings in the bathroom were dusty. The room lamps were dim and there were not enough of them. Conversely, the outside lights were bright all night and it was a good thing I had an eye mask. While awake we could clearly hear the nearby church clock tower chiming each hour/half hour despite closed windows, but it did not wake us after we were asleep. We ate in the hotel restaurant - the gourmet restaurant was closed but my husband preferred the more casual grill restaurant anyway and we had good, large meals. Breakfast was a reasonable continental (no hot foods) but the selection seemed limited for a 4-star hotel. Staff were the best thing about this hotel, we were given a useful tourist package with map and information upon arrival, and the lady on reception was helpful in answering our questions.

The best part of our stay was the warm and helpful family that owns and runs the place. Marco, the son speaks excellent English and his aunt speaks enough to communicate. His parents speak no English but are very gracious and his mother's cooking at their small and reasonably priced restaurant is very good. The room was a bit small and the toilet was positioned too close to the shower. The room was clean enough and the value for the area was very good.
"A delightful, eccentric hotel in a beautiful spot"
The Olivedo is a small, somewhat eccentric, hotel right opposite the ferry station. The room had period furniture, all in excellent condition, and absolutely stunning views of Lake Como on two sides. We were well looked after by Laura and her staff for the three nights we were there and there was always someone to help. It is excellently situated, less than five minutes' walk from the station and with all of Varenna within easy walking distance. I loved it and will definitely try and return.
a great location overlooking the ferry to Bellagio...........I loved the picnic tables in the garden with the activities below......a great place for a sunset glass of wine!..............the lakeside walkway was fantastic! - better than Bellagio............/
....the 4 restaurants on the nearby narrow cobblestone street (xx Settember St - no cars) are ALL worth the entire vacation.......
................the train from Milan stops here nearby (the only train stop on the lake).......but if you drive, beware of parking.....
the public parking works for 20 euro a day......or at the private lot at Villa Toretta (10 Euro)........enjoy........
Hotel staff was very welcoming and even had a happy hour that included drinks and some snacks that were simple yet tasty. Rooms are rustic but clean and comfortable. Hotel is located up the hill in Bellagio so you need to be sure you are able to walk up the hill (some shops and restaurants are up the hill as well so in some ways it is an advantage). Grocery store (mini market) was within two minutes walk. Kitchen was essentially a kitchenette (small) but functioned quite well. Center of Bellagio which has the ferry docks is about a 7 minute walk. Plenty of room to spread out - perfect for families. Air conditioning functioned quite well. No laundry facilities but there is a 24 hour laundromat in the center of Bellagio 7-10 minutes walk from the Bethusy apartment/hotel.
For those coming to Bellagio from the south, taking the local train from Milan (Milano Centrale station) to Varenna-Essino (1 hour train ride), and then taking ferry from Varenna over to Bellagio (15 minutes) is a better option than taking the train to the town of Como and then taking a ferry from Como to Bellagio as the Como-to-Bellagio ferry does not run more than every few hours and can take up to 2 hours to get to Bellagio. Just make sure that you purchase your return tickets from Varenna to Milan ahead of time as the Varenna-Essino train station does not have a ticket window (you can also buy them at any tobacco shop, which there are many).
Would definitely stay here again.

"Convenient to ferry, not TOO many stairs to door"
Bellagio had much more to offer than we were able to take advantage of. Would have loved to have a rental car to see the whole area. For those travelers without vehicles, Hotel Bellagio is very well located near the ferry dock and near dining and shopping.
