Enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the rainforest from the dizzying heights of the Capilano Suspension Bridge

Teetering 70 metres above the Capilano River and offering stunning views of the surrounding rainforest, it’s easy to see why the Capilano Suspension Bridge is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Vancouver. Originally constructed by a Scottish engineer, George Grant Mackay in 1889, this state-of-the-art bridge has come a long way from its earliest incarnation as a hemp rope and cedar plank construction.Stretching a heart-stopping 137 metres across the canyon, this suspended walkway is a magnet for intrepid adventurers, nature lovers and casual visitors alike. The unique vantage point rewards the brave with incredible views of the surrounding area as well as the chance to experience the unique smells and sounds of a west coast rainforest. If the thought of swinging 70 metres above the forest floor makes your knees knock, maybe you could try the pioneering Treetops Adventure instead. Seamlessly blending into the natural landscape, this series of seven bridges connects several giant Douglas fir trees. Suspended at a less nerve-wracking 30 metres above a carpet of evergreens, this is perfect for visitors of a more nervous disposition. The Cliffwalk is the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park's most recent addition and, as the names suggests, consists of a series of cantilevered walkways which jut precariously out from the granite cliff face. This is definitely not for the faint-hearted as the walkway is made up in places of panels of glass. If you’re in anyway apprehensive, just make sure you don’t look down!If you simply don’t have a head for heights, don’t worry. This innovative park has plenty of other enjoyable attractions for visitors of all ages. Wander around the display of totem poles, browse through the Story Center, which chronicles the history of the bridge, or simply enjoy the guided nature trails, rainforest eco-tours and living forest exhibitions. With so much to do here, it’s no surprise that the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park welcomes over 800,000 visitors every year.
