Stayed at the hotel for a week - From the minute I walked in the door, the service was excellent, welcoming professional and friendly. Close to BTS, excellent breakfasts, nice pool area and good restaurants. I highly recommend this hotel.
I have a long history of staying at 5-star hotels in Bangkok. Most these hotels are prohibitively expensive. Sofitel So Bangkok is a standout in that (1) it is nearly brand new (2) it is exceptionally clean (3) all staff are impeccably trained and (4) it is centrally located and has a great Lumpini Park. The only reason I didn't give the hotel a perfect rating is because of the eye sore building next to the pool area. I know that this is not within their control, but it really does detract from the poolside experience. It is likely that the building won't be around for much longer and anything in its place will be better. Other than that, I had an awesome stay.

The room had an unsurpassed view of the river as well as the largest bed I have ever slept in. The room was compact but had an enormous flat screen TV. The bathroom was well equipped. The hotel offers a free river boat service to the Asiatique which is a collection of restaurants and shops specifically designed for tourists and not an authentic Thai street night market as claimed. Worth going on for the views of the hotel and Bangkok from the river both during the day and night. We did have a couple of beers at the hotel bar which were VERY expensive compared to what you would pay just outside at a local vendor or even at home.
