Begin your day with a visit to a traditional market (morning class only) to shop for fresh ingredients. Then, head to the cooking class, where you’ll discover how to prepare traditional dishes using fresh vegetables, herbs, spices, and rice.
Spend around three to four hours mastering the techniques needed to create delicious local cuisine. Savour each dish while it’s still hot, and take home the recipes so you can recreate these flavours at home.
Your chef will assist you in discovering the special spices and herbs of Indonesia. Cook Tumpeng yellow rice, a dish offered to the gods at ceremonies long ago. Your chef will share the secrets of creating a delicious Javanese meal with you.
At lunchtime, your creations are served with more insights and reviews. Your menu includes fried tofu with quail eggs, steamed yellow rice, fried fermented soya beans (tempe), caramelised tempe, fried chicken with galangal, pecel (mixed vegetables with grated coconut), and putu ayu cake.
Next, immerse yourself in a hands-on workshop where you will learn how to prepare traditional Javanese jamu, a herbal tonic made from various roots, herbs, and spices. Spend about three to four hours mastering the techniques to create your own herbal medicine. Taste your freshly made jamu and receive the recipes so you can recreate it at home.
The experience concludes with a shared meal or herbal drink tasting session, where you can relax and enjoy the flavours of authentic Javanese herbal medicine in a warm, friendly setting. Afterwards, your driver will drive you back to your hotel comfortably.
