Geghard Monastery or Ayrivank is an important architectural, historical and religious sight in Armenia. Most of the monastery is carved inside a rock combined with architecture of 4th to 10th centuries of Armenian Renaissance. Geghard Monastery is part of the UNESCO world Heritage sights together with the Upper Azat Valley. Lake Sevan, second largest high-altitude fresh water lake in the world. Its sole major island (now a peninsula) is home to a medieval monastery providing panoramic views of the whole lake and surrounding mountains. Sevanavank Monastery was built in 9th century and houses one of the 4 remaining Amenaprkich Khachkars. The Monastery is woven into many important historic events and important battles.
