The Xi'an Bell Tower, built in 1384 during the Ming Dynasty and moved to its current location in 1582, is the largest and best-preserved bell tower in China. It marks the exact geometric centre of the ancient walled capital, next to the nearby Drum Tower (“Bell in the morning, drum in the evening”).
Access and Recommended Metro: To avoid surface traffic, take Metro Line 2 to Zhonglou Station (钟楼站), Exit C, which connects you directly to the large outdoor square via an underground pedestrian walkway.

Standing 36 metres high, the structure is distinguished by its colossal brick and stone base and an upper wooden pavilion with three eaves, green tiles, and a gilded finial, built entirely using traditional joinery techniques without metal nails.

Best Time: Visiting between 6:30 PM and 8:00 PM allows you to appreciate the monument under the natural light of the sunset and its impressive golden nighttime illumination. (Safety note: Access to the upper floor is via a wooden spiral staircase that can be narrow).
Alternative Photo Tip: If you prefer an outdoor panoramic shot without going up the tower, the vantage point on the 5th floor of Kaiyuan Mall is the city's most famous free spot.
