Experience Lake Wānaka from a completely different perspective on a 3-hour guided kayaking adventure through Roy’s Bay.
Meet your local guide at Paddle Wānaka before getting set up with your kayak and safety equipment. After a short briefing, head onto the lake and begin exploring the shoreline and open waters of Roy’s Bay.
As you paddle, take in the dramatic Southern Alps, surrounding mountains and crystal-clear waters that make Lake Wānaka one of New Zealand ’s most spectacular places to explore. Your guide will share local knowledge and stories along the way, giving you a better understanding of the lake and the area around it.
The route covers approximately 7 km and is paced to allow plenty of time to enjoy the experience rather than simply covering distance. There will be opportunities to stop for photos, take in the views and explore along the way. Depending on the weather and lake conditions, the route may include views towards iconic Wānaka landmarks such as the Wānaka Tree and Ruby Island.
An optional short walk or exploration stop can also form part of the experience, giving you the chance to step out of the kayak and experience more of the lake environment.
Bay Explorer is suitable for all kayakers, from those with little kayaking experience through to confident and experienced paddlers. Your guide will provide assistance throughout the trip and choose a suitable route based on the conditions and the group.
Whether you are visiting Wānaka for the first time, travelling with friends or family, or simply looking for an active way to experience the lake, Bay Explorer combines kayaking, local knowledge and spectacular scenery into one memorable half-day adventure.
