Overview

Guided by two locals who are so deeply connected to Kurashiki that everyone in the Bikan Historical Quarter area knows them, this tour invites you into the everyday life of the city. Throughout the tour, a licensed interpreter-guide will accompany you to ensure smooth communication and a deeper understanding of the stories behind each place.
Rather than a typical walking tour, you will first learn the storey of Kurashiki’s cotton culture—discovering the city from the inside out so you can truly appreciate its essence.

土屋邸

Originally a clinic and traditional family home, this property has been renovated and now operates as an inn featuring restored kura storehouses. Although it normally functions as accommodation, this tour offers a special opportunity to explore the entire 45-meter-long residence through a private room tour guided by Mr. Tsuji, the owner of Tsuchiya Residence and an active contributor to Kurashiki’s community development. Experience the thoughtful details woven into the design—such as the height and warmth of the lighting, the craftsmanship of the windows and ceiling, the carefully framed views from each chair, and the tatami edges creatively made with denim. Through these elements, you will feel Mr. Tsuji’s deep dedication to blending his home into the streetscape and his love for the local community.
Cafe Miyake Shouten
  • 35m
  • Admission ticket included
On the second floor of Miyake Shoten, you will visit the mini-theater where Mr. Tsuji, who served as an executive committee member, introduces the community film “Kura no Aru Machi.” Here, he shares his passion and deep commitment to the local community with the participants. Finally, he explains the innovative “diatomaceous earth–infused denim wall,” a new proposal for adding value to denim, which is used on the walls of the mini-theater.
Cafe Miyake Shouten
  • 1h 10m
  • Admission ticket included
On the ground floor of Miyake Shoten, you will enjoy a curry set lunch together with Mr. Tsuji. This is a relaxed time to share your thoughts, questions, and impressions from the tour while enjoying friendly conversation.
